We are making a shortlist of names, our top girls name right now is Liliana Mabel Rose (Last name Gale). What do you think? How could it improve? We know its long, but I don't mind!

My other top pick was Valencia, but my partner hates it!

Trust me, you are not going to want to be shouting that across a crowded playground in several years' time.

what, liliana?

I would spell it Lilianna if you definitely want it to be pronounced Anna not Arna, as it's more obvious what the pronunciation is meant to be. Personally I prefer just Lily.

what, liliana?

Names with four syllables plus are just too long for everyday use imo. I don't have anything against the name itself. Everybody else will call her Lily anyway.

Fair enough, I'm sure we will also refer to her as Lily mostly (unless she's in trouble!). I just love how it flows and looks with her middle/last name on paper and for her to have the option

I would say Lily-Arna too.

Liliana Gale is a good name.
The middle names being long are neither here nor there, as they will rarely see the light of day.

Valencia Gale sounds like high winds at a Spanish airport.

LOL good point about Valencia! I like our last name, but it can be tricky. I previously liked Autumn...

I like it! Definitely prefer Liliana (arna) pronounciation

cartagenagina · 27/09/2026 20:11

I am in SE. Surely it would be pronounced Liliahna rather than Liliarna. Nobody would actually insert an R there would they?

I would stick with Lily.

Liliana (arna) was out first girls pick if we'd not have twin boys instead! alongside Ariella. The whole name is lovely op.

don't like Valencia

Great minds alike! Thank you Wink

Well, why do we say 'bath' as b-ar-th and not b-ah-th then?

I’m in north-west England and know a Liliana – and Juliana - both pronounced -ahna

Love the full name, btw – beautiful but strong

I haven’t ever heard anyone put a random R in the middle of the word bath either.

Surely northerners say bath with a short a sound like the a in cat, and southerners say ba ath with a longer drawn out A sound?

So you put an R in bath to make it sound like hearth? Fair enough, regional accents are interesting aren’t they? I just haven’t ever heard that.

My daughter is Lilliana (pronounced arna) she’s 15 and never known anyone with the same name. People always say what a beautiful name too.

Jk987 · 28/09/2026 22:14

I like Mabel Rose but not Liliana.

Where does the r come into it? Ana is just Anna isn’t it?

Non rhotic folk like to stick an r in everything but they don’t pronounce it

looks very weird to those of us who are rhotic speakers. If you put an r in a word you should pronounce it

The correct pronunciation is bath without an r. There is no letter r in bath.

EmailsaysOOO · 29/09/2026 09:59

Mabel and Rose - lovely
Liliana - nope. Not for me. Sorry
