We are making a shortlist of names, our top girls name right now is Liliana Mabel Rose (Last name Gale). What do you think? How could it improve? We know its long, but I don't mind!

My other top pick was Valencia, but my partner hates it!

Pronounced lily-Anna or lily-arna?

Edited

Still deciding. What do you prefer? I naturally think of it in my head as Lily-Arna...

It's absolutely beautiful OP !

fumingrightnow1 · 27/09/2026 17:58

Thats a good strong name i like it

TurmericTansy · 27/09/2026 17:58

I would say Lily-Arna too.

Liliana Gale is a good name.
The middle names being long are neither here nor there, as they will rarely see the light of day.

Valencia Gale sounds like high winds at a Spanish airport.

Hollyhobbi · 27/09/2026 18:00

Where does the r come into it? Ana is just Anna isn’t it?

Anna isn't pronounced as Arna, though. 🤔

Mumtobabyhavoc · 27/09/2026 18:12

Right. 🤓

"The "Arna" Perception: In certain non-rhotic accents or casual speech, speakers hearing or producing an elongated or broad AH-nuh may add a slight vocalic glide or perceive an "r"-like quality in the open vowel, equating it to Arna. In many European and Scandinavian languages, the AH-nuh variant is the standard way to say Anna, which can sound distinct from the clipped English ANN-uh."

Daffodilsinthespring · 27/09/2026 18:13

Liliana is lovely. If you want an Anna sound then spell it Lilianna.

minerva7 · 27/09/2026 18:14

I love it. Very pretty and the length is fine. I do prefer Anna to Arna though.

Maybe not technically, but i know plenty of people with such names pronounced 'arna'!

Lily Ahrna to me. I don’t mind it but you’ll get lily all the time.

thisismeithinkorisit · 27/09/2026 18:33

Liliana (arna) was out first girls pick if we'd not have twin boys instead! alongside Ariella. The whole name is lovely op.

don't like Valencia

DramaAlpaca · 27/09/2026 18:38

I like it. With the middle names it's got a sweet, vintage sort of feel.

BeMoreDolly · 27/09/2026 18:40

The Lilyanna /Lilyahhna distinction will mostly depend on who is saying the name. Those with an accent that uses a short 'a' in the likes of 'bath' will say Anna. Those with a long 'a' will say 'ahhna'. So, if you're hoping for Lilyahhna you're likely buggered if you live in northern England or Scotland.

RosesAndHellebores · 27/09/2026 18:41

I'm sorry but the forst thing I think of is Lillets when I hear it.

What about Leonora?

RudePhthaloDalmadoodle · 27/09/2026 18:48

I love Liliana. IME the main question about pronunciation is whether it is four syllables (lil-ee-AH-nah) or three (lil-YAH-nah). If you live somewhere with strong non-rhotic accents people may put an 'r' in it but that's the accent, not the pronunciation. (For me, that might be a strike against the name, but it's purely subjective.)

The middle names are OK; they probably won't be used much so just pick the ones you love and/or that have meaning to you.

BerryTwister · 27/09/2026 18:52

I don’t think it matters too much how it’s pronounced because everyone will call her Lily or Lil.

MrsMoastyToasty · 27/09/2026 18:54

I like the names separately, but not together. I think it's having 2 flower names.

Luckily we are in the south east!

Lovely

It’s a bit of a mouthful but middle names don’t matter so much, have you considered Lilith? Still different but in the realms of what you seem to like
