I've reported bullying to the school; do I talk to the parents aswell ?

Last night/this morning I have reported bullying to my sons primary school. 2 kids have been punching him/following him/bothering him/calling him fat for a while now, I was not aware of the full story and to this extent until an incident earlier this week.

School seem to be taking it seriously and will speak to the kids involved.

I am wondering whether to have a word with the Mum aswell, or shall I just let the school deal with it ? I dont know her - kids are in the years below my son.

No, never.

SilenceInside · 25/09/2026 11:46

Let the school deal with it. Don't talk to the mum or the dad of these children.

bigboykitty · 25/09/2026 11:46

Definitely don't speak to the parents directly. Leave it to the school.

TeenToTwenties · 25/09/2026 11:47

Leave it to the school 100%.
No good will come of approaching the Mum.
(Well it might, but unlikely.)

NovemberMorn · 25/09/2026 11:48

I agree with everyone else.
Now it's been reported; leave it to the school.

GoodGirlFaith · 25/09/2026 11:48

Oh OP your poor boy, kids can be so, so mean!

Let the school deal with it.

I hope your son is okay. We had a little phase of this at juniors school but my son eventually stood up to the bully (with our encouragement) and thankfully, he left him alone after that.

Sofadilemma111 · 25/09/2026 11:49

Ok sounds like there is a definite majority!
I've seen her in the playground having words with other parents - what happens if she talks to me ? What do I say ?

I would just say you have reported incidents of bullying, and the school are now dealing with it.

ifonly4 · 25/09/2026 11:55

Let the school deal with it. They have a duty of care to do their best to keep your DS safe and it's up to them to deal with it within school grounds.

minipie · 25/09/2026 11:56

No. I would only speak to the parents if we were good friends and it might seem a bit two faced to be speaking to the school without mentioning to them too. And even then, I’d be prepared for the parent to absolutely deny that their kid could do any wrong (bitter experience here)

not had to deal with this before (thank god!)

Definitely not.

SJM1988 · 25/09/2026 12:01

Never talk to the other parent. Let the school deal with it even if you know the parent.

I'm not saying this is the case for you but we had a parent accuse our DS of bullying her DD. She was telling anyone and everyone about it. I left it for the school to deal with...and never commented on it. It turned out it was her DD verbally bullying several of the boys in the class and every now and again one of those boys would hit back. Obviously that isn't right either but you might not know the full situation unless you are there!

Balloonhearts · 25/09/2026 12:04

Give the school a chance to handle it first. Going to parents is a last resort and be prepared for it to escalate to aggression if you do. The nasty little fuckers learnt it somewhere and often it's the parents.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 25/09/2026 12:05

Nooooo

MyKindHiker · 25/09/2026 12:05

I'll go counter the crowd on this. If it was my kid doing the bullying I'd want to know. We had one (isolated) incident where my child bullied another. The school told me but in that case I reached out to the parents to arrange some restorative justice (we met up, my son had to apologize properly, pay for the thing he'd damaged out of his pocket money etc etc). I think he learned more from this than the ticking off he had at school.

So if the parents are decent human beings they would want to know.

That said probably most people who raise bullies are not good people so maybe they wouldn't care and you'll just get a load of abuse.

She will know. The school will tell her

aperolspritzbasicbitch · 25/09/2026 12:08

How confident are you that the school will deal with this, and will actually contact her?
I’ve had situations before where I’ve mentioned something to another parent that both our children were involved in (wasn’t bullying) and they had no idea, even though I’d spoke to the school about it.

HollyIvie · 25/09/2026 12:11

Everything to go through teachers and the school. Can get very messy otherwise so best to follow correct procedures. Your school will have a bullying policy - always worth being aware of this
and how to escalate if you feel the bullying isn’t being dealt with appropriately. Hope all gets sorted

LlynTegid · 25/09/2026 12:12

Hope the school can deal with it, not nice to read what your DC is going through.

Sofadilemma111 · 25/09/2026 12:15

I sent an email yesterday afternoon and his Class teacher and Head teacher spoke to me this morning so I am hoping they do take it seriously

Good, keep on top of it and make it known you want to be kept in the loop.
It sounds like the school are responding well...(that's not always the case, unfortunately)

AgnesMcDoo · 25/09/2026 13:18

No leave it to school
