My 3rd trip in 2 weeks. Started off with a uti 4 weeks ago. Couldn't shift it, became so unwell ended up in a&e also have right sided lower and upper abdomen pain. Had a CT scan last week to rule out appendicitis, was admitted for this as they said my bloods had infection markers. Couldn't access appendix on the ct scan, could see 2 large ovarian cysts, discharged home with my 3rd set of antibiotics as still showing as having a uti. Sat at home all week, pain in right side coming and going. No temperature or night sweats as had previously, thought maybe Uti was clearing but constant right side pain, referred to Gynae and thought this must be the pain, just endure until seen by Gynae! Dropped in urine sample to GP this morning to see if uti cleared, got called to come into see gp as uti still present, also blood, and bilburin. Gp examined me, still concerned that it is appendicitis/gallstones/kidney stones or something to do with the liver. So here I am, its packed. Going to be a long night. Feeling really panicky that something is really terribly wrong with me. Just want some company really and any good news stories

Sorry to hear about your troubles OP. I went through a similar experience about 6/7 years ago. It turned out to be an e.coli infection that was embedded. I was on morphine for the pain as it was truly that bad and had a 2 week stay in hospital as they went back and forth with trying to find an antibiotic that worked! I hope they find out exactly which strain is causing your pain and can treat it effectively. UTI’s are underrated in terms of how much pain they can cause x

Oh you poor thing. I hope you get some answers soon and on the way to feeling better Flowers

I've suffered with uti's for many years, more than anyone should have to and eventually went to see a urogynaecologist after tests showed bladder retention, she prescribed me Hiprex which gave me just over a whole year uti free. Then I had two in succession, then an appointment for a follow-up from the gynaecologist came through where I explained what happened and she prescribed me a low dose of antibiotics, one to be taken at bed time.
Hopefully they'll get you sorted out.

Absolutely. My own thinking is this is definitely a contributor to this. Need to have a talk to my gp about getting on whatever the hell i need to get on!!

If you see a gynaecologist I'd ask them about it, as they can arrange for your GP to prescribe it for you.

Hi again, so had ultrasound and the lovely lovely (he was such a nice young man) nurse doing the scan said both ovaries look good, clear and the two cysts that showed up on ct have popped! Would that have been the excruciating pain, and bleeding i have? They have referred me to the menopause clinic too so hopefully that will help. My urine culture has come back clear from infection (so dont understand the gps urine test results??) Referred for colonoscopy too to check bowel. Looks like im being discharged. So I dont think i can argue with that really. I do need to help myself a bit more too, need to loose weight and stop letting stress from work effect me so much.

Thanks mumsnetters for staying with me during this. I genuinely felt less alone reading all your messages. I hope you are all having a nice Friday 🥰 any future news and ill update in case anyone finds themselves in the same pickle

Can they clear the cysts.?

SuperSugarHigh · 25/09/2026 22:02

I had a cyst that partially ruptured and the pain was excruciating. Can’t remember if there was bleeding too but honesty big cysts can shove your organs in all sorts of odd directions so one bursting will also have an effect, so I can quite imagine it causing bleeding too.

OneBiccieTwoBiccie · 25/09/2026 22:49

I've had at least 4 ovarian cysts rupture in the last 14 years. One whilst I was on a plane! They can cause some bleeding depending where they are, but the excruciating pain and almost appendicitis like start of waves of pain that get worse over a couple days, feeling or being sick, feeling really hot and clammy as it ruptures then cold and clammy afterwards. It feels like you've been punched really hard afterwards too for a few days. I'm not certain but I can imagine if you have free fluid the GPs test will have picked up some of the blood in your urine that is now your 'period'. Have you got any pain in your tailbone?
Ovarian cysts are actually far more traumatic than people realise. I've collapsed at my desk before due to an in progress rupture (plane was worse as it was a very sudden rupture without warning)

BeeHive909 · 25/09/2026 22:58

I’ve had numerous cysts that have burst and it’s bloody painful . I could barely walk with my last one. It also caused me to bleed. I remember feeling like I’d been burnt too .

LondonLass2026 · 25/09/2026 23:15

Now this is how the Internet should be used! All these lovely ladies cheering you up on a Thursday and Friday night while you're poorly and have been in hospital. It's so lovely.

I've been in your shoes. In and out of hospital with kidney stones some years ago. Oh Lord, the pain! Right up there with childbirth. I've also had an adult lifetime of uterine fibroids so am also pretty much in constant pain and bleeding, so I totally get it. I hope it all gets sorted for you!

Crispynoodle · 25/09/2026 23:21

You need a CT KUB! Sounds very like a kidney stone! Hand hold for you

LurkinMerkin · 25/09/2026 23:22

Hope you’re doing ok OP! For anyone struggling with recurring UTIs- as I did all through my 20s/30s and recurring rounds of antiBs etc, I cannot recommend treatment and ongoing maintenance with D-mannose, enough- it has honestly changed my life- cannot remember the last time I needed antibiotics- it’s been years. I really hope this helps a few people- I was sceptical but there are a number of peer reviewed journals out there and it is viewed as a robust antiB sparing alternative. Xx

Shinyandnew1 · 25/09/2026 23:48

So have two cysts both coincidentally ruptured at the same time?!
