Do you use AI?

Thought it might be interesting to chat about how people are using AI….

I am encouraged to use a specific AI programme at work that is specific to my sector, but I find it to be quite inaccurate and I haven’t found a way to use it that I am confident with.

I used Chat GPE to make our holiday itinerary into quite a cool poster and I’ve just asked Claude to build an itinerary for our Xmas holiday - the first attempt is pretty much the same as the itinerary it took me about 2 weeks to come up with.

Interested to know how others are using AI and what works/doesn’t work?

No. Never have and I don't want to. I don't need it for work, I'm a cook.

PinkCatCushion · Yesterday 16:56

Very rarely because of the terrible environmental impact. I generally just do a regular internet search via Google.

managingexpectations · Yesterday 17:21

I AI’d my work pass photo as I was overdue both hairdressers and Botox and looked horrendous. It’s still me just a fresh me!
I use it when I’m decorating to see if what I’m envisioning is going to come together well.

I used it recently when DP was in hospital and the numerous departments were scratching their heads and quite honestly not sure what was going on. It gave a possible diagnosis which I then asked about and after 5days in hospital and numerous tests and meds they looked into what it came up with and confirmed it was right and changed his treatment.

Yeah i used it to decorate my home, I used it to pick our holiday, I use it loosely for medical advice, I used it for deciding what colour to dye my hair, product recommendations, I use it as my therapist, I use it to fix things. Everything really

Wow. I can't understand outsourcing all these personal choices and important medical/therapeutic 'discussions' to an algorithm.

WellThatIsABitMad · Yesterday 17:27

I have used it a lot this year. At work it’s great for formulating meeting notes info formal minutes. At home I’ve used it to successfully defend a vexatious small claim against a rogue landlord. And I’ve used it for fun stuff too.

RaraRachael · Yesterday 17:31

No I've never found an occasion when it was necessary

LydiaJayne · Yesterday 17:35

Aside from the typo I'd say the OP might be AI gathering information

Luckily there are zillions of previous threads asking the same question @HolidayHappy123 do you have the similar threads box to help ?

Maybe start using it to help you become a little more open minded and to understand that we're all different 😊

I’ve never used it. I really dislike how many local businesses such as cafes and restaurants are using AI designs in their social media, everything is starting to look identical and they’re losing their individuality. I find it quite off putting to be honest.

NormalAuntFanny · Yesterday 17:41

No, I hate the idea of it, what you are calling AI is an LLM, it's producing statistically likely responses to your questions, there is no intelligence at work.

Reading this thread is deeply depressing, people planning holidays or moisturiser usage, how pathetic can your own decision-making capacity be that you can't even do that?

Or having banal excel tasks done for them instead of actually learning to do it themselves.

It's an endless round of teach a man to fish but everyone is having the fish for a day.

The effect it is having on school kids ability to do basic tasks is frightening too, at least the fact that it is completely uneconomic to run might mean an end to it before long.

I saw a SM post from a local business recently saying they realised they'd be doing too many of those stupid idenikit posters and were going back to their normal poats

Yeah we use copilot at work

It's pretty good for tidying text up, but you need to edit it to give it a voice

I totally understand we're all different! I've met thousands of different people all doing things very differently - but they are themselves, thinking for themselves, choosing for themselves.

How does a person know who they are if they're not doing the thinking and choosing for themself? That's a genuine question, not a snippy one.

(Plus AI is absolutely not any good at 'therapy', it doesn't have a clue what it's 'saying' it is just selecting words based on previous patterns observed, it is not actually responding.)

waitinginwonderland · Yesterday 17:47

Use ChatGPT often - I’m a teacher and it finds and makes me resources in minutes that would take me hours. I use it for home decor - it designed my living room and chose my colours and it all looks great. Holiday itineraries is something a lot of my friends use it for but I love doing that myself 🙈🤣.

vixencomet · Yesterday 17:52

Yes. I've found it helpful in menu planning, itinerary building and organisation things. Sometimes I ask it to show me ideas on how to resolve some issues. Always taken with grain of salt and asking few ai's to compare results. I've found it really interesting.

I do agree with this i use it all the time but i would never take it as fact

Well a lot of nhs cbt practitioners are also not good at therapy

How many have you seen who are not good?

How do you define 'not good' and what percentage of the total NHS CBT specialists are not good?
And how many are entirely unsupervised meaning they can't be reported for issues?

How many have actively coached people to self-harming actions?

Its only giving suggestions so for e.g. if you are decorating your living room you would take a photo of living room and then say can you show me it with green walls now show me it with blue walls ect then you can choose which you like same with hair styles. As for medical things its no different then Google but more personalised but obviously you still need to speak to a dr but it can be very reassuring. As for picking a holiday i put what I want from a holiday it gave me a short list i then googled the short list and looked on TripAdvisor before picking the specific one we wanted.

It's no different to browsing IKEA or Dunelm or whatever and choosing stuff you like from their suggestions.

Just because AI suggested 3 pumpkin cushions and a squirrel blanket for your living room, doesn't mean that is what will purchase.

I use AI to check AI generated code and tidy it up etc.

Every cbt practioner i have seen has been terrible . I don't think coaching people to self harm safely is necessarily a bad thing. After wasting years in and out of cbt when I repeatedly told them it wasn't working i got referred to secondary care which was slightly better and diagnosed with bipolar disorder which obviously cbt isn't going to fix but you would of thought at least one of them would of realised.

Frequency · Yesterday 18:06

I use it very rarely because I'm concerned about water shortages and the environmental impact. When I do use it, it's normally for work because we're pressured into using AI to rewrite our work so that the AI quality checker gives us a better score Hmm

I'm shocked that people are using it to make holiday plans and teach them how to reboot their home router when we all know the impact it is having on our planet. I honestly thought we, as a society, were better than that.

It is different than browsing a catalogue because it uses none of your own cognitive processes or emotional responses to asses, select, put together. Although I don't start from a catalogue usually, I start from what I want then try to find it, so maybe that's why it seems weird.
AI just seems so uncreative, it's fun to work it out for yourself.

I'm referring to the incidences where people have talked to AI and it encouraged them to harm themselves or worse.
