I wonder who the private artist is?
Definitely not my style, I love antique and vintage furniture though.
Anyone snapping it up?

Hideous

ArtfulDenimSheep · 23/08/2026 19:23

This had 2,854 views on eBay when I looked at it. Sunday 23/8/26 at around 7.15 pm. That's mind blowing. Wonder if most of the views have come directly from mumsnet ?

Only £14 to post a £30k vase 🤣

“has a fab fab presence around it see pics vase is unmarked size is 24 inches tall whats it worth restored

200000 pounds probably more how much to restore two to three thousand pounds buyer will need vision”

Knickerbockermisery · 23/08/2026 19:34

It reads as though it is poorly translated from another language.

Aside from the quality of art, I am baffled by the photos that look like they were taken on a Nokia 8210. And the way the cabinet is perched weirdly on a table it looks like it’s about to fall off. And why the cabinet looks like it was fished out of the local dump before they let the 3 year old loose with the paints.

thetinsoldier · 23/08/2026 20:07

Christ. No thanks.

It is described as Art Nouveau. Believe me, it isn’t. 😱
It’s your money so if you like it, buy it. Don’t count on re- selling it.

Description is very odd!

trying to be interesting and completely failing

Its hideous, and the description is tedious

WhyReindeer · 24/08/2026 16:20

Objectively, there is nothing interesting about that cabinet. It's amateur and hideous. The only reason anyone would link it here is if they are selling it themselves and trying to generate a sale in my opinion. There is literally nothing of note about it to warrant comment.

The octopus cabinet that is showing in the sponsored links on the other hand is something else. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/306808170811
Why?

UnctuousUnicorns · 24/08/2026 16:43

DH said he wonders if all this tat online for hundreds or thousands is some sort of money laundering scenario. 🤔

ArtfulDenimSheep · 23/08/2026 19:13

Awe I actually like it and think that it's quirky and cute. I feel sorry for the seller if he sees all the comments on here. Id buy it but haven't got that sort of money. Not sure what my max would be, but I'd certainly give it a loving home where it would feel wanted and appreciated. Dread to think what other mumsnetters will think about me.

You're having a laugh, you are. 😅

SerendipityCat · 24/08/2026 16:45

I think you’re all being very unkind. It’s right there in the description, “we have never seen any work like it”, and “the first on eBay and the world”, so you’re quite misguided to think that it looks like it’s been painted by a 7-year old with a set of school poster paints.
Philistines, the lot of you!

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 24/08/2026 16:55

That octopus is fabulous!

allgoodhere783 · 24/08/2026 16:56

All I can think of is: SCAM

BaronessBomburst · 24/08/2026 17:05

I've saved the seller. 😁

That octopus is fabulous!

It puts the 'arm' into 'armoire! 😍🐙

I think their 'signature' is the red balloon on the back? The description is hilarious, I actually love this sort of weird stuff 😂 kind of has an uncanny creepiness to it.

Cerralin · 25/08/2026 10:23

I'd be shy too if I'd painted something like that

TallShip · 25/08/2026 11:16

Good grief! That is NOT beautifully handpainted 😬I have a friend who repurposes old cabinets, tables etc and her stuff IS beautifully handpainted. Not always my taste but it is beautiful. She's had some of her work sold in Liberty's.

WhyReindeer · 25/08/2026 13:05

And yet you commented

As is clear if you are able to read, I was talking about the fact that you started a thread about it. There is nothing about it that warrants that kind of comment because it is unremarkable and amateur.

It doesn’t even look like a decent quality cabinet or have been sanded and upcycled properly!

The photo quality is terrible and the description is nonsense.

I would be very surprised if this sells and I’d think the buyer had been ripped off.

The 'artist' cannot paint . They can't string a coherent sentence together either.

CanterThroughChaos · 26/08/2026 09:34

Nice, create this post to make fun of someone while finding the line and tiptoeing on it so you can say ‘I’m just curious’ or ‘it’s great just not my taste’. I see you.

I really like the flower side, a picture frame would look pretty painted a similar pattern.

ruethewhirl · 26/08/2026 09:57

I think that could have been really cute if it had been executed to a higher standard, but as it is... no. And especially not at that price.
