Does the fact they’re white mean they’re imported ?

No they are from white hens which we have in the UK. It should have the lion mark on them.

It does have the lionmark on the box that means the hens have been vaccinated

Medicalgrademusic · Today 09:42

They've got the British lion mark on the box, that means they're British doesn't it? Also, the salmonella cases were from people eating out. You'll be fine as long as you cook them properly too

TheSandgroper · Today 09:42

Eggs are eggs. The colour doesn’t matter. Whether they’re imported or not is another matter. Ask the shop you brought them from.

Check for the lion stamp on the eggs. The colour of the egg shells is fine. The box says the eggs are British.

The recent salmonella egg outbreak was not from eggs that were bought from a British supermarket. It was from another outlet - the source has not been announced yet.

irfgy · Today 09:44

theyre fine, just come from a specific breed like the white leghorn

mojojojoo · Today 09:45

Oh that’s okay then, yes I was thinking about the salmonella outbreak as saw online they were imported eggs but didn’t realise it was from eating out not supermarkets. These are from Morrisons

White hens lay white eggs. Nothing to do with country of origin. In addition, the box has the lion stamp and the code says UK produced. Why do people know so little about the food they eat?

HurdyGurdy19 · Today 09:51

Google "Sainsbury white eggs" - they explain about the change to white eggs on their website.

It's all about lowering their carbon footprint and nothing to be worried about 🙂

KamikazePigeon · Today 09:55

In the US, almost all the eggs sold are white. When I first moved here I was like, '...What the hell? BROWN eggs?!' 🤣

Imagine the panic if it was a box of multi coloured duck eggs 😮

When I was a kid eggs were usually white, brown eggs were considered healthy and a bit exotic.

It was a marketing ploy, brown eggs were healthier, brown bread etc.

I know people today that won't eat white eggs, it is crazy.

Thank you ☺️ I do feel a little stupid now but got to say I’ve been had by the white eggs = bad. I always thought they were bleached white ?! lol

Yes! And honestly, I've only started not refrigerating them in the last couple of years, even though I've lived here decades now. I was Deeply Suspicious. 🤣

It went against years of conditioning. But now my eggs sit proudly on the countertop. 🫡

Eggs once purchased are meant to be refrigerated. Even the British Lion egg info states this. Domestic kitchens in the UK don't tend to be constantly below 20°C and eggs need stored below 20°C and at a consistent temperature.

I don't know anyone who doesn't refrigerate eggs.

That is a preference though as long as they are kept in a cool place unrefrigerated eggs are absolutely fine in the uk, when it is warmer I keep mine in a cupboard. There is nothing wrong with putting them in the fridge but it is fine not to.

I don't know anyone who does!
If I am in doubt I just do the float test, but I have never refrigerated eggs

mojojojoo · Today 11:11

I never keep my eggs in the fridge, there’s no room for a start ! Always on the top shelf in the kitchen
