How much do my neighbours hate me?

I've alwaya thought I was a decent enough neighbour. Say hello, have a short chat in passing, take their parcels in, mostly keep myself to myself, no loud music or parties, but seeing the things others object to in their neighbours, I wonder.

I have a young adult DS. He is quiet as a mouse himself, but works shifts so is either leaving the house at 5:30 am or returning at 1am and he does like to make sure the door is shut properly!

I have a BF with a powerful car. It roars when it's starting up. TBH I do find it a bit ostentatious but as his only fault I'll live with it. 😆 He often leaves here around midnight on midweek evenings.

BF and I have been eating in the garden most evenings we're at home, and we have a chat while we're doing it. Sometimes even a beer or two.

Are my neighbours making threads about me?

If you're in terraced or semi detached then the banging of a front door at any hour would echo through to tour neighbour. The terraced house I lived in had a neighbour who left early for a nursing shift and would always slam the door shut and wake me up. I never said anything but it really pissed me off.
The noisy car at that time wouldn't be great either. Talking in the garden fine although had another neighbour who would get up early and watch something on their phone that would be loud(6.30am) in their garden. This was in summer so would wake everyone up who ha their windows open.

Then another who had floorboards, no carpet. Every door and drawer opening and shut would be heard.

Luckily no longer live near either now.
Some people are just entitled.

Sounds like you're considerate of your neighbours though if you're thinking of the repercussions on them.

Your partner starting his loud car at midnight, and the fact you've done a laughing emoji about it, tells me you don't really give a shit.

That's not fair, I was laughing at myself for putting up with the ostentatious car, as he doesn't have any other faults.

But reasonably what would you expect me to do about it? Insisit BF changes his car? Stop having guests? Make him park in someone else's street?

Go home earlier or stay the night?

Mumtotornadoes · Today 20:21

Who cares? 🤷

Has anyone actually complained or you just assuming they are seething quietly?

Level1469 · Today 20:41

If they are making threads about you they are BVU and precious, and should be grateful you are not a trampoline owner, pothead, crack dealer or HMO tenant.

No, obviously him parking in a different street would just annoy different people. Your household would be less annoying but his car would still annoy people.
Does he need a powerful car? Does he need a car with a noisy engine? - does he know that many (most?!) of us on hearing a noisy car engine immediately think "Ah, small willy!"? 😂
You ds can and should learn to shut the door more quietly.
