Any others anxious about GCSE results tomorrow?

DS worked so hard but I’m still anxiously awaiting the results tomorrow. I know it’s not the end of the world if he fails but he has such a clear idea of his future and this would knock his confidence badly.

Anyone else want to wait it out with me?

I still remember going into school 32 years ago and standing on the playground opening mine! My DD gets hers today. I have no doubt she’ll have done well enough to get into 6th form but am worried she’ll be disappointed by her own standards and really, for most of them, this is the first time they have been held to any particular standard for anything so it feels big (obviously I know it’s not and it’s only a passport to the next step!).

Nickcaveinbrighton · 20/08/2026 05:34

I think we got our GCSEs in the post. The postal service must have been more reliable back then!

Bagpuss2022 · 20/08/2026 06:13

Yes I’m super anxious I have been awake since 3.39am, DD worked bee butt off and couldn’t of tried any harder and we will be proud regardless of those numbers but they mean so much to her.
she doesn’t want us to go with her however we love about a. 4 min walk to the school.
It doesn’t help our eldest got all 9s 8s and one 7
she has worked so hard especially in maths from getting 1s in her y10 mocks to getting a 4 on her last mock, if she gets the 4 she wants and needs I will cry and be as proud as when Eldest got his 9.

I am chewing my own wrists.. our school does not open til 10am..

DD worked really hard and deserves to do well.. I just hope she's not disappointed.

JustFrustrated · 20/08/2026 07:02

Homeward stretch now to knowing.

ive taken today off work and was looking forward to a lie in. Ive been awake since 5.

she is still snoozing

WeirdyBeardyMarrowBabyLady · 20/08/2026 07:14

I know that maths is important on a number of levels but it’s a shame that the stress about whether they’ve passed it pretty much overshadows everthing else. We are in the same boat as others on the thread. My brilliant, informed, witty and eloquent child with a huge passion for the arts is only anxious about securing one result…

I recognise that there will be a flip side where students struggle with English. It just seems a lot more common for it to be maths!

Good luck to them all and I hope your young people get what they need/want.

flippinnorastights · 20/08/2026 07:30

I feel sick. I barely slept. The sleep I did have he got all 5’s and 4’s which is much lower than we are expecting and won’t get him into 6th form

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 20/08/2026 08:11

I didn’t sleep much either. I’m going to head to the school now because it’s likely to get busy. I’m so anxious I feel sick!

DS still asleep - but i am so excited for him!
whether he gets the grades he wants or there are a few disappointments, it is fine to me. I want him to enjoy the results of his hard work!

i am working with young people too and i cannot wait to hear about their results too, they may have managed to sit only a couple of exams but i am so proud of them nonetheless….

RVectensian · 20/08/2026 08:25

I still remember the attitude from my parents when I got good, but not as good result as they expected in my GCSE and A-Levels. I can't imagine giving my kids the same.

Flumpaphone · 20/08/2026 08:30

Sitting here trying to pull myself together and not have a bit of a stress cry. Our school opens at 9am. I’m a confident , professional woman in a high pressure job and this has just about finished me.

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 20/08/2026 08:37

Just spoken to DS en route. He sounds calm which is good. I remember mine coming through the post back in 1990. Considering I had been homeless through most of my final year at school it’s a miracle I passed any.

DD got her 5 in Maths and into 6th form so we are happy. I hope everyone else's results are good news.

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 20/08/2026 10:24

DS did well but we are still trying to get on the college website to confirm if he has a place or not. But he got 8s in science and maths so I’m very, very proud. He got a 7 in Computer Science and is disappointed though but it should be good enough to get his place.

@MyGhastIsFlabbered DS got a 7 in computer science too. EDEXL. But we have only the conbined grade over 150. Do you know if we can have access to the individual grade for each paper? Grade boundaries are available for each papers

Placestogo · 20/08/2026 10:45

DS Is a bit disappointed with his 8 in biology and i am trying to find the individual paper grade boundaries but cant (AQA) maybe one paper can be remarked and that will be enough for a 9…. Any tips?

EasternStandard · 20/08/2026 10:51

I was nervous but he got what he wanted. Tried not to over focus on it as it’s a bit tense making.

Ask the school, they should have them.

Placestogo · 20/08/2026 11:10

@noblegiraffewe’ve decided not to worry about it, he isnt taking that subject at a level

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 20/08/2026 11:20

We got the individual paper marks with DS’s results.

All good here - 9s in all the subjects she’s doing for A-level. I need to shop for a sixth form backpack for her (she had to have the school uniform one up to now).

CordeliaNaismithVorkosigan · 20/08/2026 14:20

Computer science seems to have had very high grade boundaries this year. DD was hoping for a 9 and got one in her mock, but only got an 8 in the real thing.

My son should be fine getting into his choice of 6th form, but holds himself to a very high standard, so slightly nervous for him. He was very unwell all through Y8 and 9 and hospitalised for most of that time, so he's essentially only had 3 years at secondary school, so I'll be so proud whatever he gets.

My ds got mostly 9s, an 8 in Computer Science, but he's so upset about his 6 in English Lit. We've all spoken to him (us, school, his friends...) but he can't see anything other than the 6. He doesnt even want to do English at college. The subjects he is doing he got 9s in. Im so proud of him, I just wish he could enjoy it.
