Anyone resigned after a few days?

Thisisnottheone · 19/08/2026 06:21

Just that really. It’s been a nightmare few days. Nobody was expecting me, the staff are rude to each other and I have some serious safety concerns with what I have seen already.
This is my onsite introduction and people have so little to say to me, I feel like I’m nothing but an inconvenience.

Once, yes.
If you are confident you can get another role or you can manage without, it's an option.

Landlubber2019 · 19/08/2026 06:28

Yes I did , slightly different circumstances but I had applied for 2 jobs. I accepted job1 although I preferred job 2. I started job 1 and found at the end of that week that I had been offered job 2. I gave 1 weeks notice and left. It was awkward and they spent the whole week telling me I was being sued for breach of contract, but they never did.

Can you return to your previous job and what was your reason for leaving?

TappyGilmore · 19/08/2026 06:32

Sort of, completely different circumstances though. I’d been on a temp contract for almost three years, and as soon as they gave me a permanent contract, I resigned within a week of getting it. That was a fantastic place to work but I don’t regret resigning, I left to take a job much closer to home to save about 90 minutes a day travel time and considerable travel costs. DC much younger at the time.

Thisisnottheone · 19/08/2026 06:34

I’m very lucky, money not an issue and my partner is fully supportive to me resigning.

It’s just been red flag after red flag and yes I could stay and fix some of it but the culture is horrendous so far.

I am worried it will look bad on me.

I was made redundant but I am still technically in the process for other jobs I have applied for.

My dd quit on day 1.
She went to work in a children's home. Had spent days doing the online safeguarding and going through their policies.
First day in the home, she was introduced to the 2 staff members and 1 of the three girls who lived their.
Whilst being shown around, the manager of the home referred to the girls as cunts.
My dd is no prude but it just didn't sit right with her. She was home for 2pm 🤦🏻‍♀️

I was internally hacked off with her at the time, she still lives at home, but on reflection I was pleased she had the courage to walk away.
It's a shame because she would have been an asset to their team.

BeMellowAquaSquid · 19/08/2026 06:55

I have, but I had another job lined up waiting in the wings. For the same reasons you have described. You need to leave if you can afford to 100%

LlynTegid · 19/08/2026 06:57

I was in one job for 18 weeks and to be honest I should have quit after about a fortnight.

If you do decide to leave OP, I hope you find a job where your skills etc are valued fairly soon.

Hadalifeonce · 19/08/2026 06:57

I started on day 1, it was a complete shit show. The woman leaving was doing a handover, essentially, she wasn't really allowed to do the job properly, so I went back the next day, to say I wasn't going to stay.

I am worried it will look bad on me.

It might look bad at this employer but who cares, it sounds awful. You don’t even need to put it on your CV.

Thisisnottheone · 19/08/2026 07:20

Thanks everyone. I’m very experienced and qualified in my field. I’ve also put up with a lot and seen a lot over my career.

I’d feel disappointed in myself if I stayed.

I’ve done it three times in my life (I’m late 40s).

I won’t tolerate being treated or spoke to like shit from anyone.

Two of them, (both NHS), my managers were absolute horrors immediately. I did speak to them and told them that they couldn’t speak to me/other staff in such a demeaning way, was told each time by staff “that was just them.” No. Not acceptable. So I just walked out after they both told me variations of “that’s how it is here, that’s how I talk to staff, like it or lump it”. I lumped it and left.

Another job, the inept manager changed my hours and job description twice within the first week. Again, no. Again, I was told “that’s just how things are, I’m the manager.” Nope.

I will say though, I’ve only ever really had jobs that they would employ a monkey to do if they could get away with it, the sort of job you can walk into immediately as no one else wants to do it. Thankfully, I don’t have to work anymore).

UnpopularOpinionsIWouldUsuallyKeepToMyself · 19/08/2026 08:25

Yes, years ago. Got offered another and far better, job. But I only received the firm offer after I’d left the premises late on Friday evening. I was off on holiday the next day for two weeks (told them that before I started) and by the time I got back I would have had to give a month notice instead of the weeks notice required on that day. So I wrote them a resignation letter and went back and posted it through the door that night 🫣.

mumumental · 19/08/2026 08:31

I once stayed a few months in a hideous job, that I knew was a bad workplace , and badly managed, within a week. Resign away!

YourJoyousDenimExpert · 19/08/2026 08:35

You can probably fix some things- but not a toxic culture. Sounds like you have the option to cut your losses and move on - so I’d do that in your position. As others have said- you don’t need to put it on your CV.

Whodrankmytea · 19/08/2026 08:35

Yes a long time ago. I was in the job for three weeks and then was offered something somewhere else that was much more suitable for me. The job I was working in at the time was a newly created role and no one had really thought through what I would be doing. I also didn't really seem to fit in with everyone else.

Chesatony · 19/08/2026 08:57

What a wonderful thing to have the support to do with delight! Go!

Stopthattrain · 19/08/2026 09:00

I did it once after three days. The work was totally different to what was originally described and wasn’t something I wanted to do or actually had the right skills and experience to do. There was also an uncomfortable atmosphere with overbearing management and I knew I needed to get out before I signed my contract. I didn’t put the role on my CV and basically pretended it never happened. Technically I worked for free for three days but I didn’t really care about that. Don’t waste your time if you’re already convinced it’s not right.

dustabsorber · 19/08/2026 09:01

Liz Truss

TinDogTavern · 19/08/2026 09:04

Yes. Similar circumstances to you. I did four days then walked out. Luckily I was working a number of jobs at the time and another were able to give me more hours.

I just excised it from my CV.

IME people worry too much about the odd blip on a CV. If it was a string of “blips” then that’s different but once in a while can happen to anyone for lots of very good reasons.

In your shoes I’d be out of there.

dustabsorber · 19/08/2026 09:09

It would be hard for Liz Truss to just erase those 40 odd days from her CV

lechatnoir · 19/08/2026 09:13

One job I knew in week 1 it was a shit show but stayed for 12 hideous months - it nearly killed me and I gained nothing professionally and wished I’d just left at the start. Don’t waste your time & energy, keep job hunting and don’t think about or mention it again no need to explain it to any future employee.

daisyydaisyy · 19/08/2026 09:13

Thisisnottheone · 19/08/2026 06:35

I am worried it will look bad on me.

It won’t look bad on you at all. Don’t put it down as a reference as you’ve not been there long enough and just forget about it.

jackiesgirl · 19/08/2026 09:20

No, but I wish I had done. If it feels off so early, it probably is.
