What is this white powder outside my house and what should I do?

I will attach a photo of a pile of white powder outside my house. Anyone know what it could be/why?

I live on an estate of hundreds of cookie cutter houses. Ordinary town. The houses are not cheap, but they are also not a £million. Lots of older people live here - they bought in the late 90s when the place was built, had a couple of kids who left home and the parents just stayed. So quite quiet. Some families, including us. Ordinary place.

Outside my house, there is a path/driveway. You can use it to walk between 2 of the estate roads, but you can't drive between them as there is a bollard on the footpath preventing this. You can drive in and get to my driveway and 4 other houses. So only vehicles coming to/from the houses such as our own cars/delivery drivers/trades would drive down here. But many people would walk with dogs, kids whatever.

The bush in the photo is mine. It's cut reasonably, it shouldn't be pissing anyone off or anything. I don't piss anyone off or argue with anyone over anything. It's not a place where anyone would park, unless someone had several visitors at once.

Other than this, at the entrance to the path/driveway by the road, there is a symbol, like a chalk outline in the shape of a lollypop or magnifying glass.

I don't think someone could have got out with shopping and dropped flour by accident as you wouldn't park up against the bush, you'd park on your own drive.

Amazon have been today, but they don't make a habit of chucking white stuff about!

I have a small dog so I am a bit pissed off about this and not keen on going to clear up random fucking powder, or having it blowing about by my property.

Any ideas?

Has your husband/partner showed any signs of withdrawal recently or mood swings (from one extreme to another)? I'll get to the point, could your husband be taking cocaine and he fallen over on the drive after inhalation? You can pick up a drug testing kit (goes different colour to indicate which substance) for less the £7

I doubt anyone would be carrying that amount of cocaine for personal use 😅

I only wish it was pimplebum, a good friend of mine (of 20years) had a husband who was a secret drug user and she had no idea until the police caught him on the roof one day but I won't go into details. Drug use amongst the middle class is the highest it has ever been

No secret drug user would let that amount of cocaine go to waste

Tell me you have zero clue about drugs without telling me.

OP I agree it’s for a running club.

Girlwithavibe · 17/08/2026 20:49

It could be Ant powder ?. X

Bizkibee · 17/08/2026 20:49

Ant powder? Or more likely just someone's dropped it.

It would be an unusual spot for a hash run. Someone marks out a trail and the group follows it, so at the next junction you'd expect to see another marker, or a circle to indicate they have to explore the different route options. But they're normally done on dirt tracks not by "littering" on private property or residential streets.

I would not worry about it as a one off though.

mysteriousdeposit · 17/08/2026 20:52

I'll look for more when walking dog

just be careful with your dog just in case it is ant powder

SDmdzMn · 17/08/2026 20:55

I was going to say ant powder too

The Plymouth Harriers run around our residential estate every year before veering off into more rural locations.

I did wonder re ant powder, but if there were ants there, I wonder who would care (apart from me potentially). You usually put that on the border of your own property rather than someone elses. That bush is actually long because it turns into my neighbour's bush with no break. There's no other powder along the bush

We had this locally. It was in a few places in the neighbourhood and blew up the local Facebook group til the Scout group commented saying it was flour and they’d left it! Can’t remember why - tracking practice or something.

I thought you were joking!!

This would be hundreds of pounds worth of cocaine!

No drug addict is going to leave that there, they would be scooping it up as much as they could.

Well if you're high from the drugs you might not know where you are putting things.
It was just a suggestion I wanted the op to take on board as a possibility, she has and ruled it out but I felt it was my duty to suggest it. I hope she gets to the bottom of it and any suspicions of her husband are proven untrue

Who do you think she’s married to, Pablo Escobar?! 😂

If her husband is walking around strewing that much gak about the place, he’s most likely dealing to the whole estate, not just spilling his stash in a random bush on a Monday afternoon. Things could be a whole lot spicier in those cookie cutter houses than the OP would have us believe …

reptilemad1985 · 17/08/2026 21:27

its flour used by running clubs to mark a route happens at mine and my mums sometimes monthly the facebook pages go wild everytime

DishingTheDirt · 17/08/2026 21:34

pimplebum · 17/08/2026 20:40

Who cares ? Sniff it , most likely chalk or flour

Noone sells drugs in that quantity/ theyd scoop it up

chemicals that hurt dog are usually blue pellets for slugs or weedkiller is a wet spray

Don't sniff it!! 🤣😂😅 My thoughts were sherbet dib dabs or ant powder!
But I've learnt something new about posho runners now.

mysteriousdeposit · 17/08/2026 21:41

Well it's been windy and it's blown in lines right across the path/driveway to the houses. Me and DD saw another pile by a lamppost (by the side of another house) and another pile by a bollard (like a traffic calming one). We then saw a bunch of other weird things that are all white and at the end of people's parking (where it meets the pavement). So these were a white casserole dish, white roller skates and a white bowl. Usually the place looks totally sterile with nothing about, as these cookie cutter estates do.

That heap would be about £10k worth of cocaine, I doubt it's fallen out of her husband's nose 😂

BasiliskStare · 17/08/2026 22:00

Leaving the running club marker to one side for a moment , the circle with the line attached is a marker councils use for utilities.

The white casserole dish , roller skates and white bowl I can only assume are left over from some drug fuelled treasure hunt . I can think of no other explanation.

Christ0nABike · 17/08/2026 22:08

It’s blown into lines, you say? Best keep an eye out for Beryl at no7 bending down with a rolled up bank note.

bitontheobtuse · 17/08/2026 22:08

People might be leaving the dish and bowl out with water in for wildlife, but I can't come up with a plausible idea for the roller skates.😂
