Tell me all about where you love going in Italy! Today was my first time ever going there and I saw so much. It was incredibly hot when we went but I saw some beautiful places. Took myself to so many art galleries as well.

Loving these.
I always drive south to Calabria which never gets mentioned but is really pure Italy.
Was an au-pair (remember those? 😃) as a student there and do drive through all the glorious places already mentioned -but anyone who really wants Italy, please do go there, loads of tiny coastal towns and villages that deliver everything the north does, but better and cheaper 😃.

Venice so far.

Has anyone been to Cinque Terre, that's on my to-do list (along with Lucca)?

I loved the Cinque Terra. We stayed in the middle village and walked one way one day, and the other way the next. Got the train back.

Also loved Lucca! There was a wedding on the day we visited, and I have a memory of a beautiful, joyful couple- newlyweds- running through the square, hand in hand…

Venice. just the most magical place.
Rome is historic and grand
And we went on a day trip to Verona from Lake Garda this year and it was charming
but I think with Italy your spoiled for choice

So many amazing places in Italy.
We liked the Abruzzo region - wild and mountainous. Turin for the slow food movement- incredible food and wines. Puglia, Tuscany, Rome, Venice, Assisi, Perugia, Siena, the Lakes, Naples and Sicily too. Nearly forgot the Marche - also amazing for walking and not quite so touristy outside of the bigger towns. So many beautiful and interesting places.
The only thing I don’t like much is how busy it is at the beaches. It’s quite hard to find a secluded beautiful beach - the sort you can find on a Greek island. Everything else is perfect though.

Naples is a magical place - rough and ready, noisy, crowded, dirty but it gets under your skin. Would love to go back

Genoa is like a smaller, quieter Naples. A bit rough and gritty, but lots to see and do, and nowhere near as crowded as Naples with either tourists or locals

I came on to say Genova. And the whole of Liguria, in fact. I also like Naples!

But also....the hill towns of Central Italy: Lazio, Umbria, Le Marche.

And then there's also Rome....And the Apennines.

Might as well just say all of it and have done with it 😆

Have yet to find an Italian city I don't love but Bari really surprised me - great in early autumn and incredibly good value. Love Milan too.

EveryoneUsingOutro · 17/08/2026 19:04

Lake Como / Lake Garda for the scenery

Florence, Lucca, Siena for the art, architecture and sense of culture and history

Sicily for the food

Sigh. Need to go back soon.

GreenEyesMillennial · 17/08/2026 19:06

Ferrara

Yes, same. I travelled to Italy as part of my uni dissertation (to 'research' a painting) in 1999. It was a lovely town, understated and relaxed but very, very welcoming. I have also been to Venice, Rome and Florence, all of which I loved (particularly Venice - it's so otherworldly) but Ferrara was great.

DemonsandMosquitoes · 17/08/2026 19:15

Rome, Venice and North of Lake Garda so far. Going to Pisa, Siena, Lucca, Cinque Terra and Florence in two weeks.

Mygreyhair · 17/08/2026 19:21

Lake Garda - particularly Malcesine

StabiaGirl · 17/08/2026 19:24

Great to see so many shout outs for Naples! (note my username)

mrsconradfisher · 17/08/2026 19:26

Milan! We found it a great base for day trips, we did Lake Garda, Lake Como and Bergamo. Felt like we had several holidays in one. Milan itself is lovely, and much cheaper than some other destinations.

LancashireButterPie · 17/08/2026 19:28

Florence.

Genehuntsfanclub · 17/08/2026 19:55

Bergamo
Montecatini Terme
Brescia
Lecco
Lucca

HughJackedMan · 17/08/2026 19:56

Venice is one of the most magical places we have been to, I absolutely loved it. I came out of the train station and was wowed by the scene in front of me, it was summer so it looked even more amazing. I thought it was going to be just another over hyped place but was so wrong, would love to go back.

MojoJojo71 · 18/08/2026 22:44

Florence is definitely my favourite. We’ve been to Italy 7 times and this is the only city I’ve been to twice, it’s just beautiful.

dustabsorber · 18/08/2026 22:45

Pompeii
