Tell me all about where you love going in Italy! Today was my first time ever going there and I saw so much. It was incredibly hot when we went but I saw some beautiful places. Took myself to so many art galleries as well.

I loved Anacapri, although we did go first thing in the morning before all the crowds got there.

LemonSnail · 17/08/2026 15:59

Bay of Naples.

Perugia in Umbria is an underrated city

Vincenza has an absolutely incredible, and unique, theatre designed by Palladio that I think is one of the historical wonders of Europe but not as well known as it should be, and the whole town is lovely as I recall.

Lucca is lovely too.

Süd Tirol region is my favourite region.

Turin! There’s so much to it and it’s not touristy. The film museum is just fab, and the walk along the river with the outside bars and pizzeria and up to the palace and gardens. There’s some sort of medieval village place up there as well. The piazzas are fantastic and varied and they have the best Aperetivo hours. Plus the old fashioned trams. I love it. I was lucky enough to work there for a summer and I think about it constantly.

Naples is a magical place - rough and ready, noisy, crowded, dirty but it gets under your skin. Would love to go back

Genoa is like a smaller, quieter Naples. A bit rough and gritty, but lots to see and do, and nowhere near as crowded as Naples with either tourists or locals

SchnitzelAgain · 17/08/2026 16:35

Lake Maggiore
Sorrento
Venice

SchnitzelAgain · 17/08/2026 16:37

Interesting to see Naples referred to as magical; I thought it felt unloved, like a grand old dame who lost her money and died penniless.

Thunderpunt · 17/08/2026 16:37

Elba specifically Marina Di Campo

Lucca , Sienna , used to love Sorrento but it's been ruined by over tourism

sittingonabeach · 17/08/2026 16:45

We also did a day trip to Venice from there and it felt amazing to be there

The italian lakes are a great place to relax, certainly can be expensive where i was staying

It's definitely not the classic beautiful version of Italy, and I'm sure it's an incredibly tough place to live. I just found there was something interesting or even fascinating everywhere you looked. The shrines on street corners. How incredibly hilly it is. The street where the shops sell nothing but Christmas stuff! Fried pizza - pizza, but EVEN BETTER 😁

Anothernameretired · 17/08/2026 17:06

Venice so far.

Has anyone been to Cinque Terre, that's on my to-do list (along with Lucca)?

Venice
the Amalfi coast… all of it but especially when you climb up ie the Path of the Lemons, the Walk of the Gods. True beauty. I have one picture in my head that is the spot on TWOTGs that I would most like to go back to of all the places in the world I have been to. Literally breathtaking.

ginasevern · 17/08/2026 17:49

Naples
Pisciotta and Marina di Camerota in the Cilento
Sirolo in the Marche
Marina Romea in Emilia-Romagna

Just a few, but there are many many others!

geoger · 17/08/2026 17:54

Pisa - beautiful and underrated
Florence - will forever have my heart
Rome - unforgettable
Venice - beautiful winters break

minnowonthesay · 17/08/2026 18:26

Porto Santo Stefano - we stayed in a beautiful hotel there with a beach club, I felt like I was in an Agatha Christie film!
Venice - it’s just so different
Capri - it’s just so extra
Positano - not in high season, just wandering up and down all of the steps
Lake Garda - lots to see and do
