Lindsay Clancy; stating she wanted a fourth child?

CoffeeMumForever · 17/08/2026 10:34

Posted for traffic in chat, I am reading about the Lindsay Clancy trial, what I do
not fathom is why she would have been saying she desperately wanted a fourth child
amongst all the mental
Torture she was living in? And had been going on for a long while? I do
not get this?

You don’t understand why someone with an incredibly serious mental health illness may say confusing and contradictory things?

Herenowatbroad · 17/08/2026 10:35

I worry what else you don’t get

Don't worry. The OP is asking a question to try to understand something she doesn't yet understand. Instead of patronising her, you could've encouraged her curiosity.

Just a thought.

Or do as you’ve done

and say… well nothing In response at all

CoffeeMumForever · 17/08/2026 10:45

I didn’t type this to troll, or expect to be bullied. It was a genuine question. She appeared very lucid and organised in many ways eg organising the families schedules and everything else.

Yeh, don't own up to belittling the OP, just blame me instead.

I think people probably see you. I know I do, and it's quite a ride!

And another post completely ignoring the OP

How on earth have I bullied

This poor woman is riddled with a deep dark and powerful mental health illness

and you don’t get that she said she wanted a fourth child

Alwayslurkingsometimesposting · 17/08/2026 10:49

If she felt she was failing with the first three she might have fantasised about another try at getting it 'right' or perfect

I completely struggle with the idea she was able to switch out of her psychosis to answer the phone and have a quick chat, then return to what she was doing. If it’s true then it’s massively rare. So I’m surprised at all the insight some posters expect people to have over it.

I read an extract from her diary that said something like she felt guilty for not bonding with the first children (especially the little girl) I think, but was finally more bonded with the baby, so perhaps logically she was hoping the more she had, the better it would get (and also at other times feeling overwhelmed. Both can be true - she was veering through highs and lows of emotions).

I have no insight
zero
But i have a tendency to trust the professional opinion that has been given in this case

She was also admitted to a psychiatric hospital for four days and on a cocktail of medication.

This week her defence begins. So many threads popping up now.

If you have been following the trial, what did you think of the prosecution's evidence?

I agree. But I still struggle with it. Experts have said it is most definitely possible about the timings and temperature of her body. A lot of people struggle to hear or understand that.

It also still has to be proven that she was in phychosis. I believe that’s the point of the trial. Although I’m not sure the prosecution is actually able to prove she wasn’t.

TooFuckingHot · 17/08/2026 11:38

Yes I get what you mean. Sometimes people go into parenthood with an idea of how many kids they want and they aim for that. I personally would never have wanted a 4th but I have friends who absolutely set out to have a big family - they all come from big families themselves and so have always wanted lots of kids.
I was so overwhelmed by my first we were nearly one and done but other people can see the bigger picture and can picture the big family they’ll have without dwelling on how bloody hard that is

Well i have limited experience with psychosis but a family member who lived a distance away from me was pretending they were fine and it sounded plausible across the phone for a few months…sounded like they were going to work, seeing friends. Eventually after a friend told me that they hadn’t been in work. I went up to visit them only to find they had basically hadn’t left the house in months, were living in a terrible condition and were struggling with really insane thoughts.

So yes I can see how this is possible. I think a being both lucid at times and also being “insane” is probably quite common.

I have encountered two women with postpartum psychosis who had tried to seriously harm their babies. It was not obvious in either of them. And yet it ultimately became apparent that they lacked capacity and were totally delusional.
