My wife gets annoyed at me for basically doing nothing when she's on her period

vjjyj · 15/08/2026 18:09

Ohh, today I was working on my laptop and she was on the couch. I laughed a bit at something on my phone, and then a little later I laughed again. My wife got angry at me, and I'm honestly confused.

I know periods can affect mood and make someone more irritated, but is this normal? Or am I doing something wrong without realizing it?

For context, we're both 32

Can I strongly suggest talking to your wife about this? How could anyone else outside your relationship know?

Someone laughing at their phone is kind of irritating.

Everyone is an individual though.
You do need to talk to your wife.

Notbuiltforheat · 15/08/2026 18:13

Listen mate, we have had to put up with thousands of years of male oppression, the biological nonsense that nature has handed women, and even now systemic discrimination and misogyny.

It’s a shame she snapped. I recommend you take a teaspoon of cement and harden the fuck up.

HTH

SilenceInside · 15/08/2026 18:14

Ok then. On the balance of probability, given your posts, I’d imagine you probably are being irritating.

LBFseBrom · 15/08/2026 18:14

Some women have awful periods, vjjyj

Indulge her, it's not for long and won't kill you.

How did she show her anger?

Asking disingenuous questions is likely to irritate all of us, period or not.

Glitchymn1 · 15/08/2026 18:16

Ask her if she wants you to do anything, get anything for her. Are you sat around all day on your pad giggling to yourself? 👀

bitontheobtuse · 15/08/2026 18:18

There are few things more irritating than being in the same room with someone who laughs at something on their phone, then several minutes later does it again and doesn't tell you what they are laughing about.

It's like being excluded from a private joke between other people when you are standing right there and they won't tell you what's so funny.

ForPinkDuck · 15/08/2026 18:18

Your better off looking this up on insta, you tube etc for generic info/advise.

Notbuiltforheat · 15/08/2026 18:20

Or chatGPT. It won’t get irritated like we will.

BotoxOrPuffins · 15/08/2026 18:22

I had late diagnosed PMDD and would snap over small things. Also, how loud were you laughing.

mathanxiety · 15/08/2026 18:22

Were you working on your laptop or did you just have it open in front of you?

How much cleaning and laundry and cooking did you do in between laughing at shite on your phone, knowing she's on her period?

Was she trying to have a nap on the couch and did you laugh really loudly?

1willgetthere · 15/08/2026 18:24

You say your were working but then laughing at your phone, how much work were you doing?
Is Saturday a work day for you?
Had you said you cant do anything today as you were working, but then were on your phone? That would be annoying

ginasevern · 15/08/2026 18:24

Yeah right mate.

Notbuiltforheat · 15/08/2026 18:26

Have you got a repeated cough, or nasal whistle? Do you breathe loudly? Do you chomp when you eat? I bet you do.

CrowForSale · 15/08/2026 18:27

Are you, in fact, a massive twat?

Saturday evening always attracts the weird men.

Ohhhthedrama · 15/08/2026 18:30

This is Mumsnet so because you're a man just take it as read that basically whatever happened is your fault!GrinGrin.
To answer the question, for a few days every month I find my DH and everything he does hugely annoying, especially the breathing. Be quiet and try to stay out of her way, but not to far away. It's a delicate balance. Good luck buddy

Incredulousaboutlife · 15/08/2026 18:39

You are both 32. If you are married you must have known each other intimately for a reasonable amount of time.. So why all of a sudden are you posting this as a new issue?

It’s more that the type of men we seem to get on here are the creeps and pervs.

Happyjoe · 15/08/2026 18:41

One thing. Don't blame all anger at you on her period. It will not go down well, at all.

Talk to her.

vodkaredbullgirl · 15/08/2026 18:43

Talk to her, how long have you been together?
