Is your council run pool like this?

Today, my daughter was at a pool party at the local leisure centre and the changing room stank of wee. Then, looking at the floor there were dried, yellow puddles. This is a very recently built pool!

Is this a thing at council pools?

Yes, every single council pool has wee on the floor.

How does urine dry as a yellow puddle?

Palomiino · 08/08/2026 23:12

I’m not making this up. I assume little kids wee on the floor and they don’t mop the floors. It smelt like a men’s urinal. Honestly it was worse than any public loo.

No

I've only once smelled urine at ours (swimming there approx 3 times a week for 2 years). That was in the shower area and so unusual that I reported it to reception.

Did you report this OP?

Palomiino · 08/08/2026 23:20

Yes I’m going to report it because it’s not acceptable - they must not have cleaned the floors for ages. We had a council pool before this one and it was never dirty.

I’ve also looked at recent reviews which say the same thing.

Okay, I've been dithering about going to the local council pool and this has put me right off

It's only because of the hot weather. Generally, I don't go swimming.

IdenticalHandTwin · 08/08/2026 23:25

Pissy council skanks 🤢

I had to close a pool down today due to faeces floating around, consider yourself lucky.

Sadly, yes. One of the reasons I now use a pool at a gym - though that isn't perfect on occasions.

Palomiino · 08/08/2026 23:44

Sadly, it boils down to councils being bankrupt and this sort of thing being the first to be cut.

Crumpetring · 08/08/2026 23:47

No, I have never seen this in a council run pool. We go to our local one weekly for lessons. I’ve been to others further away and have also never seen this. Not typical at all.

I don’t think it’s to do with cuts, people shouldn’t piss on the floor, especially not in a public place.

Digerydont · 08/08/2026 23:50

I saw number 2s floating in one of the shower closets in our leisure centre.

Ohthatsabitshit · 08/08/2026 23:52

Yes ours smell of pee. It’s a recent thing, maybe the last three months.

I can’t think it is adults - it’s probably non-potty trained children.

ApplePieCinamon · 08/08/2026 23:54

This is soo gross. Another reason I don’t do a lot of public places things with my kids.

I love how you quoted this bit but not the second paragraph about faeces in a pool (non council-related)

Edited to add I see you weren't being pissy 😅 I do work in the swimming pool industry though

I thought the faeces part was made up! But perhaps if you have little kids and a swimming pool...

Boodahh · 09/08/2026 00:10

Used to be. Then it was rebuilt - about 10 years ago and has since not smelled of wee.

Sadly the faeces story was true 🤢 You can't make this shit up (pun intended).

Half my morning was spent dealing with this shit literally

gingercat02 · 09/08/2026 00:14

No not normal. Our changing rooms might be less clean than I would like at busy times, but there is no piss!

Bernadinetta · 09/08/2026 00:15

OP, why are you “GOING TO” report it- why didn’t you report it when there? Surely the best thing to do in this situation is go up to Reception on your way out and say just to let you know there’s some wee on the changing room floor that could do with a mop up, so that it can be dealt with there and then? What’s the point in reporting it after the fact?
