Oooooh, lovely.

I'd be on things like:
Spaghetti bolognese
Jacket potato with cheese and beans
Cottage pie
Corned beef hash
Chilli and rice

Ok, some of those more in winter than now, but that sort of thing!

Or treating myself to fish and chips from the chippy because no one else in my house likes it much!

Cottage pie. Home made by me! But I can't be arsed to cook all that just for one, so I do it about once a year now and freeze in a few portions. Somehow it just doesn't taste the same as the freshly cooked one when defrosted. That's maybe just me and my tastebuds, but I still eat it ha ha. Must have lots of gravy on top, a tasty, sloppy dinner yum.

Obviously out of season in this heat though. So in Summer it's poached salmon and hollandaise sauce. I enjoy a mezze meal and tapas too. Better stop there or I'll be raiding the fridge again. 😊

Beans on toast with loads of cheese on top.

DreamingOfGeneHunt · 08/08/2026 20:06

Egg chips and beans with the chips done in the deep fat fryer. None of your air fryer/oven chip nonsense. Bread and butter (White, cheap) on the side. Salt, vinegar and ketchup.

Fishfingers chips and baked beans. Conchiegle pasta with heated up plum peeled tomatoes, cheese sauce, tuna and Parmesan.

B0D · 08/08/2026 20:13

Custard, with home made crumble

LoyalGoldMentor · 08/08/2026 20:15

Chips and gravy or cheese on toast with brown sauce 😋

BCBird · 08/08/2026 22:33

Brown sauce with a fishfinger sandwich? Blush needs to be salad cream.

Custard, with home made crumble

Apple, sultana and cinnamon. Would need someone to.make it for me. Hate rubbing method for crumble. I'd have eggy bread, maybe a chip sandwich. Grilled Spam sandwich, belly pork sandwich on white bread.

Really spicy ramen
BLT
Keema aloo with naan
Roast potatoes topped with shredded roast chicken, stuffing, pigs in blankets and smothered in gravy
Mashed up egg in a cup with toast.

mamaduckbone · 09/08/2026 08:58

Jacket potato with butter and cheese
Mushroom risotto
Beans on toast

DilemmaDelilah · 09/08/2026 09:06

Tuna macaroni
Cottage pie
chicken fricasee and rice.

Anything that is tasty and can be eaten with just a fork.

MsIceSandwich · 09/08/2026 09:09

Banana custard.
My dad used to make the best chips, not sure what he did to make them so good but I'd give anything to have some with a fried egg, runny yolk of course.

Carb rich stuff like pasta, pizza etc. Cake for sure!

Giraffehaver · 10/08/2026 00:18

Macaroni cheese

@BCBird I was taught a really easy method to make crumble when I was at school 50 years ago - no rubbing in!

Melt the butter, the drizzle it onto your flour and sugar (and/or whatever else you are using) and use a mixer to turn it into 'breadcrumbs'. Don't overmix - you don't want to end up with a dough - and I find I need slightly less butter than if rubbing it in.

I usually make quite a lot and store the extra in a resealable bag in the freezer to use whenever I want it. Excellent if you just want one or two portions.

Comfort food is the food of positive childhood memories so mine are all related to my mum’s baking. She sadly died when I was 7.
Apple Crumble and custard
Bread Pudding
Rice Pudding
Bakewell tart
Fruit cake with a slice of cheese
Cornish Fairings Biscuits

(shocked to see a pp say sushi is comfort food???)

SpiceGhoul · 10/08/2026 10:45

@Ratherhaveacupofteaandabiscuit comfort food is literally just food you find comforting, doesn't have to be related to childhood or memories at all.

Xatz63 · 10/08/2026 17:19

That's true but for me growing up its happy memories .May be different for others

@onwardandupwards

Was just about to say mashed potato with fried onions and gravy. When I was a student with very little money it would be instant mash.

I love home-made sausage rolls - I now add a tablespoon of mango chutney to the sausage meat before cooking. Don't knock it until you've tried it!
