Costco - do you go?

Tempted to get a card - I've never been!

We (me, dh and ds 14) shop in Tesco mainly. I love a big shop mooch and feel like it's somewhere I'll go on my own if I ever pass my test (currently having lessons at the grand old age of 48!)

Do you go? Would you recommend it?

And we're off - fingers crossed we can get in. The app says membership is active!

2 hours later! Spent £150, could easily have spent 10x that. Very busy, lots of free samples!

Glad you caught a day when they are giving samples. Did you have anything to eat like the hot dogs 🌭 or pizza 🍕 on your way out? They are great snacks and a big reason my kids love it there. I want to go to Costco now 😝

We did so well with samples - brioche, chicken Kiev, beef, belly pork, cheese, liquorice, yoghurt, haribo...

Yes, I had a pizza slice (massive for 2 quid!) And dh and ds had a hot dog.

I'm sold - it's a it of a trek (about 35 mins) from us though

I have 3 friends that have a card so I tend to go with them as a guest, once a year with each of them. DS just mentioned the mango chutney I bought once it was huge and took a bit too long to get through. It’s only about 15 minutes down a fast A road from me.

They hardly do any samples at ours, usually there’s 1 or 2 and never seems to be anything I’m all that bothered about.

DH could have had membership through work but it is not anywhere near where we live so didn't bother

Used to but but now it's 100 miles to the nearest one. You'd think they would at least have one in each part of the country, if not each county.

They are putting through planning for a few new ones at the moment . I’m in Kent and we don’t have one at the moment but hopefully will in a year or so .

We went back! Ds bloody loves the place!

The cooked chickens and the ribs are both excellent and very good value

Just wait til their Christmas stuff is out. You never knew you needed a dining table sized Santa train set until you see it in Costco 😂

We went on the 2nd Aug, some of the Christmas stuff was out already! Probably the leftovers from last year.

So - I'm a definite convert!

Only problem is that I've discovered that 'specials' may never re-appear. We bought a block of the most delicious Red Leicester, scoffed it all and now we can't get it again 😫

That is one of the downsides. Sometimes stuff vanishes for ages.

Other times it’s just moved to a very random place.

@JustAnotherWhinger I searched every fridge! It was so lovely, ds moans every bloody day about the current rubbish red Leicester!

Yes disappearing/moving stuff is annoying. There are some cheese stuffed garlic breads we always buy but they had moved to a completely different area last time and it took me ages to find them.

I really wanted to go today but resisted as we didn't officially need anything! I always want too much stuff when we go!

You HAVE to try the frozen Mac & cheese croquettes in the giant black bags - I know they don’t sound amazing but just trust me, wow. So, so creamy with lots of mozzarella. They’re a firm favourite in our house!

It’s worth it for the 1kg Lurpak tubs for £6!

I love a Costco trip. We go every couple of months to stock up. We buy lots of big packs of meat, we spilt it up and freeze it. We get quite a lot of their large packs of frozen food too. We buy all our cleaning products, dishwasher tablets, washing pods etc in bulk and some toiletries, toothpaste etc. Toilet rolls and kitchen roll, kitchen foil, packs of bottled water and trays of canned drinks. We get lots of fruit there too, the fruit/veg and meat is excellent quality. They have some really nice wines too and lovely pastries. And of course we fill up with fuel every trip.

A lot of stuff looks amazing but there's only 3 of us so fresh fruit etc would go off before we could get through it

However huge blocks of cheese / bags of parmesan get demolished!

I felt like I’d been mugged when I joined.

I paid £42 for the ‘privilege’ of being one of the chosen people allowed to shop there and found that the prices, with VAT, were very disappointing.

I bought a carton of 5 boxes of cappuccino sachets and then saw I could get them cheaper at Sainsbury’s, the same with Weetabix.

I went back one more time and saw people piling Diet Coke onto trolleys, did the maths and again could get it cheaper on offer at Sainsbury’s.

I don’t understand!

Been a member for years. Didn't use it that often, and often wondered whether we were getting our membership moneys worth, but now they've added a petrol station to our local one we definitely do.
It's nice to have as we always buy our Christmas rib of beef from there. Their meat is excellent.
Like a lot of others, we don't have the space to store bulk items, but it's nice to have the option.
Also, although I personally haven't had to return anything, a few of my friends have had to return electrical items and their returns policy is excellent apparently!

I have for over my honeymoon - buy it all stage, now am more discerning:
