20 years I took dh to London and to a Proms concert (bucket list for him)
25 years he took me on a trip to Rotterdam for the week.

20 was in the middle of the lockdowns, so got an extravagant takeaway meal in.

25 we were in the middle of a family crisis (elderly parents) so didn't go away or have a party but went out for a meal at a much more "high-end" restaurant than we would usually eat at. Ideally we would have gone away somewhere, city break or similar.

20 years I can't remember, I think we just want out for dinner. 25 years to come next year and I think we'll prob do a trip but I'll be 60 next year so we might combine the two and push the boat out more than usual.

We go out for a meal every year on our anniversary; we don't do anything different for 'milestone' numbers. We tend to do things like trips/experiences for birthdays rather than our wedding anniversary, it is quite close to both our birthdays which might influence that.

tartyflette · 05/08/2026 12:17

We didn’t want a party so I booked two nights in a wonderful hotel in London (Shangri-La at the Shard) and enjoyed a really good lunch at Camino. And a curry for another meal.
Views - we were on floor 40-something - were incredible, service, valet parking, breakfasts all wonderful.
Not cheap (cough) but worth it for all the above, and of course the memories.

20 years I can’t remember, 25 we were in Crete that week so told the restaurant staff earlier in the day and they gave us a table near a little canal/stream and made a fuss of us.
It is our 30th next month and we are on a cruise with friends the following week so will mention it to the staff during one of the dinners.

Raera · 05/08/2026 12:40

20, can't remember
25 flew to venice for 4 nights, train to Rome for a further 4 nights.
30, grandchildren had arrived by then so full family holiday in a big Northumberland house funded by us.
40 (surprise to us) full family holiday in another big Northumberland house paid for by our children.

It's our anniversary this month. Part of the reason for getting married in August (apart from having family members in the education industry) was so that we could celebrate every year with a trip. We don't do presents; we do travel.

We have never had a party or celebrated outside of the 2 of us, as we see it very much as our special date. Last weekend we had a conversation about booking a restaurant for our anniversary and decided, as it was a very busy week for us, as there is a family wedding at the weekend, that we would skip the meal out, cards and presents. But would do something special each day of our holiday, which starts the following week. We may have a special meal, buy something and certainly have a drink or two to celebrate. We don't like a fuss, so won't be saying anything in any restaurant.

20 was at the end of lockdown, DH and I just did a lunch in London and I organised a mini-version of our wedding cake.

25 - we were supposed to go to Cyprus - cancelled due to a fracture I got and wasn't cleared flying. We then booked a 3 day trip to the Costswolds - cancelled because DH got a major gout attack.

We now plan a week in October, let' see what happens.

Currently on holiday for my 30th wedding anniversary and we offered all the children the chance to come on holiday with us for various reasons only one and his wife came. So we spent more ;)
And everyone said why would you not go away by yourselves but honestly, delighting in the friendship we had with our children and their wives was lovely.

principalskinna · 05/08/2026 12:54

We are having a barbecue with family and friends at the end of the month

Clydebuilt · 05/08/2026 14:18

25 years…went back to our honeymoon hotel in Italy ❤️

boysmuminherts · 05/08/2026 14:21

10 - New York
20 - nothing except a meal
25- hopefully something good!

Parky04 · 05/08/2026 14:21

25 years, we were due to go to Canada and Alaska but covid put paid to that! 30 years, which was this year, we spent 10 wonderful days in Italy.

TheyGrewUp · 05/08/2026 14:23

Had a stay at our favourite chateau in the Loire for the 25th.

Stayed at our wedding venue, now an hotel, was my grandparents' house. It was awful - poor service, poor decor and the character of the house had become an abomination. We spent £350 and were really upset.

NewLeafNewStart · 05/08/2026 16:31

Thanks for ideas, really fancy the maldives but out of my price range

Our anniversary is mid-April so we were often on a city break: most places have lovely weather but are crowded due to Easter hols.
10th - Went to Venice for a several days, left DCs with DGPs
15th - long weekend in Cambridge (DH's university) enjoying all the grown-up restaurants; DCs stayed with DGPs.
17th - not a special anniversary but a great trip to Barcelona; DCs' first city break
20th - in Paris with teen DCs - their first visit; left them at the flat whilst we had a fancy dinner

We've been together for 20 years but only married for 10. We FINALLY went on honeymoon a month ago - a really luxurious holiday - and it was lovely. Time away from all responsibilities so we only had to think about each other. This only works if you really WANT to spend time together of course!

rightoguvnor · 05/08/2026 17:24

For our 25th we had a smallish party at home, about 30 people and caterers brought in) and we went to Madeira for a long weekend (it’s one of our favourite places but we stayed at a hotel we’d long admired but never been able to afford before then).
We have another significant anniversary next year and both have a significant birthday so funnily enough I’ve been brainstorming plans for that today.

CryHavoc · 05/08/2026 17:26

20th last year we went to a lovely spa hotel in Pembrokeshire for a night, and had lunch at a nice seafood place.

RedRosie · 05/08/2026 17:26

We did a small boat (not posh but very expensive!) cruise - Norway - for our 25th anniversary. Fabulous.

But something much cheaper would also have been fine. Did you have a honeymoon? For our 20th we went back to where we went then.

HeddaGarbled · 05/08/2026 17:52

Med cruise 🚢 ☀️

LeapyearLoser · 05/08/2026 17:58

25 years we went to Vegas to renew our vows, I'd had breast cancer 2 years before and we always promised ourselves we'd renew in Vegas at tacky wedding chapel for our Silver wedding!
30th anniversary we did nothing and at 32 years my husband announced he didnt like or love me!!!
Foolish man!

MissyB1 · 05/08/2026 17:59

Our 20th will be next summer and will coincide with my 60th birthday (we got married on my birthday). We need to get planning now as we would like to do something special, I’m thinking a couple of nights in a posh spa hotel, then a party for family at our house.
