Incorrect fed ex invoice? Advice...

Twinnnnie9x · 03/08/2026 18:16

Random! My neighbour pases me a letter saying is this your name? And it was but Addressed to their address.

I open it its an invoice from fed ex saying I owe £60 in shipping or they'll take legal action as its overdue

I've not recieved any letters prior and ive never shipped with fed ex in my life

Rang customer service who said they're unsure why its against my name and to email the specialist team which I have

Has anyone had this before? I panicked but im quite sure its not my invoice ive never used fed ex to ship!!! Has someone just put my name against it???!

This could be for something like Import Tax. Have you had a delivery from abroad in the last year or so? They would have paid the import tax on your behalf, delivered the package and, they invoiced afterwards. Which is standard practice.
Maybe they mistyped the road number?
If genuine, it is for something you received from abroad, not for something you sent.

When I rang and used tracking number tracking number, customer service explained its for shipment, the delivery address was in Scotland which is the opposite end of the country for me!

So its a bit odd. Surely my names been put down wrong? Again checked my emails and 0 from fed ex for over 2 years. Last time I recieved a fed ex parcel was 2023

Very weird. Was that 2023 delivery from abroad?

Branster · 03/08/2026 18:26

I mean they would not deliver without receiving payment for courier services first. You book it, you pay, you send it. Tax is separate, we’ll forget about that, based on my own experience.
Be very clear with them that it has nothing to do with you.

Thank you thats the confusing thing and the shipment is within the UK so surely it cant be duties and taxes??? But yes ive never ever sent with fed ex!

As ive spoke to customer service and took pictures of the letter, I handed it back to my neighbour who's address it is and just notified them as its addressed to their address and told them to ring fed ex too in case its not for them either

OP posts:
Twinnnnie9x · 03/08/2026 18:31

Been panicking a bit as it says they can take legal action but again this isn't my shipment or delivery so surely even if they did they'd hit a dead end as I never used them?

Sounds like a potential identity fraud to me. If their team can’t sort it out, keep a close eye out for any legal proceedings being served at your or your neighbour’s address. If that happens you can put in a quick defence explaining it’s not you- it would be for Fed Ex to prove it was, which if course they would be unable to do, so you’d be fine. However DO NOT IGNORE any legal claim form otherwise you could get a CCJ against you for failure to defend.

Amsylou · 03/08/2026 18:36

What does the letter state? Is it asking for payment? If so, it sounds like a scam. They possibly have information about you (or your neighbour) and have sent letters pretending to be fed ex. They likely used a pre-existing tracking number to make this sound legitimate.

Twinnnnie9x · 03/08/2026 18:39

Yes I will respond to anything! I have emailed a ticket and explained all told my neighbour too as well

And i will ring again tomorrow for advice as again ive never shipped with fed ex and the shipment number for tracking was for a delivery? To not near my location at all

The letter seems legit got all the legit details on. Very confused but maybe some identity fraud? Or name mixup??

Yep says its overdue invoice and I need to pay within 7 days or legal action

Then there's an invoice number shipment number etc

What does it actually say on the invoice - what is the charge for? It should specify the exact breakdown of fees and any VAT shown separately.

Like a pp says, sounds like a potential scam or identity theft to me.

Twinnnnie9x · 03/08/2026 18:47

So its down as. FREIGHT INVOICE and has a table of vat rate , charges, fuel surcharge etc

Thinking its a name mix up or identity theft as I havent sent ever with fed ex and like I say last fed ex parcel was 2023 within the UK. I checked tracking for this and its certainly not me

OP posts:
UhOhRatPoo · 03/08/2026 18:48

Also, where is it asking you to send the money? That can be a clue to whether or not it is a scam. But Fed Ex should be able to tell you pretty much instantly whether it is from them and matches their official letter format/process.

Twinnnnie9x · 03/08/2026 19:00

There was a qr code and had fed ex bank details on however I didnt put my details in on payment page but the link seemed legit!

Starting to think its name mixup or identify fraud

In this case though the legal action wont matter will it if I just respond with evidence?

The invoice would be auto-generated via the consignment tracking number and the name & address would be identical to the delivery label on the box, so no chance of any mis-type.

In any case, if it is for import tax, it would say so, either duty, customs fees or import VAT. It would not be for the cost of the freight. And for a bill of £60 then the parcel contents would have to be worth circa £300 and the OP would surely remember ordering something costing that much from abroad.

At work, I used to have to reconcile the bloody things daily.😫

@Twinnnnie9x Do you trust your neighbour?

The odd thing is its for a shipment to Scotland and I dont live there , im at the other end of the country. Lol

So its not for something ive recieved and again nothing ive sent!

The whole situation is odd unless someone's deliberately put my name. But neighbours address?

I would think the QR code takes you to a fraudulent link. Perhaps copy the link address and google to see what comes up. That will hopefully help here. AI is sometimes good with this sort of thing. Your bank are also likely to help give advice since it’s in their interest to prevent fraud.

Twinnnnie9x · 03/08/2026 19:09

The link is very legit the whole thing looks very legit and I rang customer service gave details in and they located said invoice etc

Just baffled as to how my names against it when its also to my neighbours address and again certain I didnt send with fed ex as I never have especially next day priority

What is the date of the shipment?

Normally they’d not ship before full payment was received I don’t think?

Not sure why would be billing after the event? Maybe the poster who worked with Fed Ex invoices would know if that was normal?

The end of May this year. I've tracked the parcel its been delivered im baffled by all of this really!

Ask them where the pick up address was from in the tracking. If it's nothing to do with you, tell them to send the invoice to that address.

Sounds like a scam, a lot of companies shipping from China are apparently using customer addresses as their business addresses.

orangehandles · 03/08/2026 19:24

What customer service number are you ringing? Not the one on the invoice, I hope!!

DO NOT TRUST ANY CONTACT DETAILS OR CODES ON THE BILL ITSELF

Contact them again, give the tracking number and ask for a complete breakdown of where it was sent from and where to, and the exact date and time of delivery, and whether it was signed for. Ask them to email you with copies of the lot, including a copy of the tracking label if possible.

FedEx are actually one of the best couriers we ever dealt with at work (we dealt with a lot, both in and out), and they don't make mistakes like this. Ergo - it isn't a mistake. Someone has purposely given your name and your neighbour's address.

Once you have received all the information from Fedex, email them back and tell them that this transaction has nothing to do with you, and you believe it to be someone else fraudulently using your name. Print out and keep copies of everything.

This is all very odd. I think you should take precautions to ensure you haven’t had your identity stolen. It sounds like your address could be an easy typo (wrong house number), so I would assume it’s your identity that might have been compromised and not your neighbours.

I would take steps to contact your bank and change your passwords. Also, check your credit report to ensure there aren’t any credit cards taken out against your name.
