Incoming MIL rant

MyOtherCarIsAPorsche · 02/08/2026 12:12

Oh MIL!

i'm bloody nearly 60! And MIL still bloody managing to bloody rotten infuriate me

aaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrgh

why can't I ever learn?

could write volumes ...

I think I now hate, loathe, detest her

why do I fall for it time and time again?

I feel beyond upset and I bloody rotten know I'm overreacting but .....

aaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrgh

and I keep saying that I'll never let her phase me ever ever again - I'm a grown woman for crying out loud

im definitely done now

forever

that

is

it

she's only cancelled Sunday lunch last min - I know it's trivial

but it's the last thing she'll ever bloody do to me ever

aaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrgh

screming into the virtual void has helped a little

thank you

(I was looking forwards to today because I've not been out in a while (recovering from surgery) and it was her suggestion we go out in the first place, and she cancels hours before? Why? Because she's not talking to FIL. They are mid 80s. She rang and cancelled the booking. She thinks she's done me a favour by being thoughtful enough to have bothered to ring them and cancel)

I know I'd be petty to to say I'm done and it's by far not the worst she's done by a long chalk but I'm done

im 60 for god's sake

why can she still invoke irrational longings of terrible deeds?

oh go away

🤣

Stop being a drama queen and go out for lunch regardless of her

That woman (MIL) ... exasperates me, therefore I'm entitled to to be dramaly and queenish

You didn't have to agree to the meal in the first place.

MyOtherCarIsAPorsche · 02/08/2026 12:50

@Iloveeverycat

possibly because his mother will be there?

OP posts:
Happyjoe · 02/08/2026 12:50

Bloody hell, just go out yourselves and enjoy!
Who wants to sit at dinner with an atmosphere anyway? She was right to cancel tbh.

Cuppachuchu · 02/08/2026 12:52

I'd take this as a win, and take DH out for a nice roast lunch. Every cloud, OP.

Or, pop down the Co op for some tasty easy lunch stuff and have a relaxed Sunday afternoon, maybe watch a film together.

Best phrasing ever!! 😂

MyOtherCarIsAPorsche · 02/08/2026 12:56

We were invited to theirs for lunch originally but H thought (as his mother's cooking gives him the sulfurs) he'd rather go out for lunch and it would save his mother the bother and expense of cooking a large meal. H thought he was being generous by offering to pay for a lovely Sunday afternoon out.

OP posts:
Shedmistress · 02/08/2026 12:56

Turn up

Say you know nothing of the cancellation

Have lunch

Enjoy

@Cuppachuchu

i make take to my day bed with a touch of the vapors

I haven't decided yet ...

OP posts:
Cuppachuchu · 02/08/2026 13:02

Don't do that. Make the best of it. Why let her issue spoil your Sunday?

MyOtherCarIsAPorsche · 02/08/2026 13:05

I'm messing ...

definitely absolutely done with MIL though - until next time

We regularly ate out with fil. Mil never knew.

He also came for breakfast every Saturday on the QT also. Presumably an option ?

So why can't he still do that, for just the two of you?

hahabahbag · 02/08/2026 13:12

As tough as it is you miss them when they are gone. Doing the maths they are likely in their 80’s and at that age many people are more difficult lets say, in the future don’t tell them where you are going just when they are being collected, they can’t cancel the booking that way

Bristolandlazy · 02/08/2026 13:17

You sound a little high drama, maybe a row with her husband and then lunch with you was more than she can handle.

If she's such a pain in the arse surely this is a blessing, you can go wherever you want for lunch. A narrow escape etc, I don't understand your response.

rainbowstardrops · 02/08/2026 13:20

Did your DH book it as you said he was treating them to a nice lunch (or something like that)? If so, she had no right to cancel it.
Don’t go out and buy something to cook. Try and have lunch somewhere else, or go to a supermarket and buy some picnic bits. Maybe invite your FIL (joking).

MyOtherCarIsAPorsche · 02/08/2026 13:34

H is as exasperated as I am with his mother - she has done this sort of thing once (a million times) too often

H goes on holiday with his father quite regularly and they meet weekly at H's 'shed' which is a man cave approximately 10 min car journey away. So they are very close.

This was all MIL's idea and she was the one responsible for putting the kybosh on it .... again.

I was really looking forward to seeing FIL, he's a lovely chap - great company. I don't get much chance to see him and he is getting on. My parents are no longer with us and I think we're all conscious of the ever increasing speed of how time passes. It's certainly far too precious to be wasting it on MIL.

MyOtherCarIsAPorsche · 02/08/2026 13:39

@Bristolandlazy

if it was a one off I could let it slide

my response, whether it's over the top or not, is tongue in cheek

i cant understand why I keep falling into the trap of her manipulation - it's not going to happen again

H and I are going out - I was able to rebook a later table (very popular place)

and yes - she cancelled my booking (same surname)

OP posts:
mixedpeel · 02/08/2026 14:48

@MyOtherCarIsAPorsche and yes - she cancelled my booking (same surname)

These few words confirm that the aaaarrrgghhing is totally and utterly justified.

DaysIllRememberAllMyLife · 02/08/2026 15:01

If you don't like her then why were you looking forward to having lunch with her?

Well done. Enjoy your meal. 😎

Tell MIL bluntly that she had no business at all cancelling the booking that you had made. All she needed to do was tell you that she and FIL wouldn't be attending because they were too busy sniping and stropping at each other. Tell her that. Tell them both if necessary.

I remember your previous posts, you’ve had to cope with such a lot. Flounce be drama diva as much as you like 💐
