i'm bloody nearly 60! And MIL still bloody managing to bloody rotten infuriate me

why do I fall for it time and time again?

I feel beyond upset and I bloody rotten know I'm overreacting but .....

and I keep saying that I'll never let her phase me ever ever again - I'm a grown woman for crying out loud

she's only cancelled Sunday lunch last min - I know it's trivial

(I was looking forwards to today because I've not been out in a while (recovering from surgery) and it was her suggestion we go out in the first place, and she cancels hours before? Why? Because she's not talking to FIL. They are mid 80s. She rang and cancelled the booking. She thinks she's done me a favour by being thoughtful enough to have bothered to ring them and cancel)

I know I'd be petty to to say I'm done and it's by far not the worst she's done by a long chalk but I'm done

Why not just book somewhere yourself? Or if not at least get off out somewhere for a change.

i spend much of my weekends off on a
solo wander (or cycle) and stuff my face somewhere en route. It’s great. Highly recommend it.

Why can’t you still go out for lunch? Lunch without the person you don’t like sounds like a win win to me.

Go to the cinema, a posh one where you can have a burger or a pizza in your comfy seat

Rude of her to cancel the table when you could still have used it imo and that's a ridiculous reason to cancel anyway. dh and I would suck it up and act normal!

MIL makes me want to drink myself into the ground ... alas I don't drink alcohol. (Although I have been know to sniff stout 😉) And I was going to pick them up and drive them home so they could enjoy a drink!

Go out for lunch without them, just you and your DH. Either phone the restaurant yourself and make the booking or go somewhere else that is nice.

No need for any drama and martyrdom. You aren't dependent on them presumably, so get yourselves out without them.
