If so, did it help and in what form did you take it?

Yep, it didn’t work at all and to be honest, I wasn’t expecting it to. I just did it to shut people up.

Gave me one hell of a bad stomach though.

ThingsCouldBeEasier · 02/08/2026 12:15

Can cause iron deficiency. I'd look into boron supplements instead.

ForDucksSake · 02/08/2026 12:20

God it's a bloody minefield all of this isn't it. There's so much conflicting information out there and my GP has been worse than useless.

Key questions - what kind of arthritis and are you already on medications?

Daisypod · 02/08/2026 13:16

I’m sure I also heard you shouldn’t take it with some blood pressure medication

AfternoonVanessa · 02/08/2026 13:17

You can't take it with methotrexate.

Poppystone · 02/08/2026 13:18

Nott for arthritis but I had inflamation in my hip, which had been stopping me sleeping for months. It was fixed a week after starting turmeric supplements.

TheFairyCaravan · 02/08/2026 13:22

I did because I had to stop taking anti-inflammatories due to stomach pain and heartburn. The turmeric gave me even worse heartburn so it went in the bin

Slimtoddy · 02/08/2026 13:27

Yeah but got such an upset stomach I stopped. Don't think it helped. I then tried turmeric tea which I got in supermarket. Thing is I like the taste of it. It doesn't upset my stomach but does keep me regular. Don't think it helped inflammation. If you want to try it I imagine the tea might be gentle.

I have tried so many supplements and painkillers. Nothing really works for me. Reducing stress probably is biggest help.

redboxer321 · 02/08/2026 13:39

I'd recommend PEA (Palmitoylethanolamide)
Definitely helps me and my dog with our osteoarthritis.

That’s probably why I felt quite ill then. Didn’t know that.

Osteoarthritis. I'm not taking anything for it at the moment. I do take blood pressure medication which someone has mentioned may not be good with it. I also have quite a sensitive stomach so maybe it's not for me!

There's a never ending list of magic remedies. They don't work. If they did work your doctors would tell you.
I have RA and OA. The RA is treatable with some very powerful and nasty drugs.
There's no treatment for OA other than pain relief. Best thing you can do is keep the joints moving. Whether it's fingers, knees or whatever, don't stop using them because it hurts.

nocoolnamesleft · 02/08/2026 21:55

If turmeric were really a great treatment for arthritis, my friend in India who is a rheumatologist would have a lot less workload.

Itshotinherebutainttakingoffmyclothes · 02/08/2026 21:57

You need to takw it with black pepper. I take it for joint aches, just peri related.

INeedAnotherAlibi · 02/08/2026 23:39

There’s some evidence it can help with RA (drugs are more effective) but no compelling evidence for OA so I’d avoid if I were you!

I'm so grateful that you posted that, Vanessa! I had had a couple of really horrible tummy episodes, and was blaming all sorts of things - prawns, lettuce, too much gin. Really dire. I hadn't been told about turmeric, but taking it (after feeling guilty about wasting money when I found an unused pack of the stuff) definitely correlated. Never again.

SeaToSki · 04/08/2026 19:45

This is what I take and have had great results. Ifi miss a coupleof days I can really feel the pain returning

I have OA and it gave me terrible explosive tummy and frankly didn’t work!

garlictwist · 04/08/2026 19:55

Yes. I bought a massive bottle and have been working my way through it for ages. It’s made no difference.

Interesting. I purchased some of this but never tried it. Think I forgot. Will try it now.

The one I got is 1100mg strength. I believe that's quite strong but I wanted a strong one as I didn't really expect it to work so thought I'd try one with a decent dose of PEA. It's not a miracle cure obviously but has definitely made a difference and quickly too. Hope it works for you!

Slimtoddy · 05/08/2026 20:02

I have widespread osteoarthritis. Painkillers do bugger all so in desperation I try various supplements but I have yet to have any success. I will continue to try no doubt even though my logical brain says ....no.

I read somewhere that there is research to suggest OA may actually be autoimmune.

I agree movement is important but sometimes that is difficult during a flare. Swimming is very good to keep you active. I find the hot weather is making mine worse. I do think stress is a big factor in how the pain feels.

Rocknrollstar · 05/08/2026 20:35

My consultant recommended glucosomine. I take it with turmeric and Omega 3 and I think it is helping.

RoachFish · 05/08/2026 21:56

I have had OA for over 20 years now and none of the supplements have worked and I don’t want to take anymore anti-inflammatories. The only thing that has consistently worked for me in the last 4-5 years is EMS training. I do it twice a week and it keeps the pain at bay.
