I think the best whistling tunes are all old ones IMO - Irish jigs and reels, hymn settings, English ballads, WW2 songs some classical music. Such as: The Minstrel Boy, Vilikins and his Dinah, Lord Nelson's Hornpipe, Lillibullero, Cym Rhondda, Bless 'em All, The Union Cruiser etc. I do whistle well but I do sometimes wonder whether anyone wants to murder me as I never hear anyone else doing it.

“Lost on You” by LP.
I can barely whistle at all, so very jealous of her whistling ability.

Oh my goodness !! I was sitting here thinking Flambards but though no one else will know what the hell i was on about 😀

I was a little younger, i think, too young to watch it properly, but ADORED that theme tune. It was about horses wasnt it? Flambards? Was there a horse galloping while the theme tune played?

Another really good haunting theme tune from around that time was the one with the silhouette of a naked lady dancing. It was a thriller/horror series. Again i didn't watch it but remember loving the tune. I'll try and google the name of it ...

Yes, there were horses! ☺️ Mostly because fox-hunting was one of the big themes in the early episodes, but Flambards itself was a country manor, and it was the early part of the 20th century, so equestrian stuff was part of the way of life for rich country folk, I suppose. I think the workers on the estate had shire horses, if anything.

It's great that you're aware of the series too. It doesn't seem to get repeated on any of the retro channels, which is a pity because I bet more people would remember it and it would probably get some new fans.

Not a song as such, but the theme music for a late 70s/early 80s drama serial called Flambards. I loved the music so much as a kid I even bought the soundtrack LP from John Menzies 😂 The theme is built around a whistled refrain, and it's quite cheery but oddly haunting too. I loved that series, and the books it was based on.

Over time the album got scratched and lost. Years later, after the Internet had been around for a while, I discovered the composer had his own website and was self-producing CD copies of the soundtrack. So I sent off for one and still play it from time to time. It's like a time machine - I must've been 12 or 13 when it first came on TV.

I bloody loved Flambards - and the tune!
