I’m going to Krakow in October, does anyone have recommendations for tour companies to go to Auschwitz. Or other places, my friend doesn’t want to do the Salt mines, but has suggested a trip to see the Black Madonna.
We like history, churches, museums etc.
Thanks

Dynia restaurant is lovely. Beautiful walled garden.
Nice cafe on top of the market for good views of the square.
Wax museum is a hoot especially after a few drinks.

Yes, I'll find the link for the place that took us to Auschwitz. It was a very early start and my top tip is to get a packed lunch from your hotel because it's a long day and it unsurprisingly there's nowhere to buy food that really apart from a vending machine outside. Didn't do the salt mines. Did love the wax museum because it's crackers as a good antidote to your early start at Auschwitz.

And also, oh my God, the best food ever at this restaurant and we went to a lot and I've got high standards

You can just get the bus to Auschwitz it's very easy
Salt mines are impressive and worth going to. Again you can get a bus easily
The walking tours are excellent especially the Jewish one

It's changed in Auschwitz as far more complicated to do an unguided tour and they're very very restricted opening hours. It's a crappy system to be honest.

Negroany · 02/08/2026 08:33

The pinball museum is fun.

Glad to hear you’ve booked Auschwitz- it really is an incredible experience. It’s much busier nowadays than when I first started going and it can feel a little rushed. If you can, read Eli Wiesel’s book Night or watch Kitty Hart Moxon’s Day in Auschwitz on YouTube.
Book tickets for the Schindler Musuem and visit the Galicia Jewish Museum. The walking tours of the Jewish quarter are also excellent.

Wawel Castle was interesting and a trip to the top of St Mary's Basilica in the main square was really good.

principalskinna · 02/08/2026 09:24

Yes, I agree. We were amazingly surprised by the Galicia Jewish museum.

We used Mr. Shuttle for our trips to Auschwitz and the salt mine. They don't cancel at the last minute like some other companies do. They are very reliable.
If you want a good laugh, the wax museum is absolutely hilarious!

Please take heed of this comment!!! We used Michel kr who also doesn't cancel last minute, also provided us with a packed lunch.
On the krawkow Facebook pages you can read countless problems with get your guide etc whose auschwitz trips were cancelled on the day.

principalskinna · 02/08/2026 10:04

Yes, I was really impressed with Mr. Shuttle.

principalskinna · 02/08/2026 10:05

We met some people in the afternoon who done Auschwitz and then the salt mines and they said it was too much. But whatever you do if you have a 7 am departure get a packed lunch because you will be strangely hungry which sounds terrible and inappropriate, but you know.

principalskinna · 02/08/2026 10:07

Oh, I forgot the vodka bar is fun but there's quite a queue . Go ahead of when you think everybody else might be.

But definitely go to Bufet. Pics

@InQuiresandplaceswheretheysing these are the ones from this posters link.

My point was that she said they were not free. This says they are . I've seen the golf buggies whizzing about stopping here and there. Not a patch on the walking tours.

I forgot to mention that Mr.Shuttle can provide lunch too
It was seeing all the FB comments about Get Your Guide cancelling at the last minute that made us look for a reliable company so I'd always recommend Mr.Shuttle or Michel Kr.

Schindler museum was really good.

I also did salt mines / really easy to do yourself. Quick train from the centre and it’s only 5 minutes walk.

i also did train myself to auswitz - again was easy but not sure if you have booked just tickets or a tour - don’t forget your passport you need it to get in.

The company I’ve booked with provides a packed lunch, so we’ve gone for that.its a good job as I hadn’t even considered food!

What power adapter do I need? Will an EU one be ok or do I need a different one.

I’m going to do the free walking tours, they’ll be a bit much for my friend. The Archdiocesen museum looks really interesting so we’ll do that.

I wouldn’t do 3 tours in one day that are advertised. We did the 2 camps one day with a small tour group, went to the salt mines another day.
Wouldn't recommend schindlers factory, it’s a warren of rooms with photos on the walls. Was very busy and crowded with no sense of what it was like as a factory.
We got a train out to Nowa Huta which is well worth a visit, look it up.

InQuiresandplaceswheretheysing · 03/08/2026 14:27

@Whoops75i thought about Nova Huta to see the church JP2 built. Although I’m not really a fan of his.

We went for a walk around and had an eclectic lunch in Restauracja Stylowa.

It was fun .
