Boomers get a tough time for a myriad of things - irrespective if whether they had any control over them or not.

What will today’s generation blame us for? Brexit? Environment? Housing costs? Lockdown? Large numbers of children or their parents with long covid? Falling healthy life expectancy?

My kids already hate this.

I can't really see how it helps anyone for their parents to know that.

Happy for school to have rules and enforce them but in the grand scheme of things, so long as they are not rude and disruptive, I don't mind if the shirt is not tucked in.

I agree with that, I hated the Body Beautiful movement or whatever it was called, encouraging young women to be obese and not tackle their weight problems. Obesity is linked to breast cancer (and probably many more cancers). Not that it's relevant now with WLI.

I agree with much of this.

Whenever I see people on here solemnly explaining that they "went low contact with their parents for their MH" or "won't allow anyone to hold baby for first three months" or "have all my kids on Life360"...

I think those people are in for an awful shock when their own kids hit 30 and say things like

Why didn't you let me have a normal relationship with my own GPs? Just because you didn't like them

Why did you hurt my immune system by not letting people hug and kiss me, and using all that antibac crap? I get sick all the time now thanks to you

Why did you put loads of pics of me on socials? Just so you could feel good? You're such a narc

The very things people often smugly assume are optimal are the very things your kids will react against. Right or wrong, the pendulum always. And if you raised your kids to believe humans are disposable and "you should put yourself first".... they'll do it to you too, one day.

So, as a parent, have you challenged this? Schools are crying out for parent governors as well.

Despite all the warnings - doing fuck all about climate change and allowing it to go past the point of no return.

I am having a little laugh at how badly it goes if you challenge the school on anything.

Lack of interest/action in climate change as they will have to deal with the consequences. Using airplanes for travel Not getting to grips with Ai.

Allowing unfettered (and unchecked) access on their mobiles to SM, WhatsApp, etc while their MH goes downhill.

Allowing excessive hours gaming, to the detriment of their social skills, health and fitness, employability etc. It saddens me to read on here so many times of young men aged 16+ who sleep all day, game all night, not in education or have a job, who’ve been allowed to turn into antisocial, obnoxious individuals towards their parents and family.

Feeding them crap food and sentencing them, possibly, to a lifetime of obesity and/or poor health.

The environment and not taking changes like global warming seriously enough.

The loss of resource and traditional skills of life, growing food and making tools or useful stuff. Many already have no knowledge or way of providing for themselves without ‘the system’ already and it’s only going to get worse.

Looking at it from the other way, what can we blame them for? So a new version of wasting their money on lattes and avocado toast instead of saving to buy houses but updated for the modern age...

I am just catching up on the thread.

Blaming them for illness and almost seeing illness (a totally normal part of life) as something to be shamed or punished for. Where the illness impacts life heavily on an ongoing basis, they’re shamed for that too.

I’ve just thought of another one I should have included initially - the cost of higher education which many of us got for free/practically free.

But we made our daughter do this , trawled the city trying to hand out her CV in every shop , restaurant etc and without exception they all turned her away , said they do not accept CV’s that way and they had to apply online .
