Bonnie has sadly passed away in hospital in Portugal.

Her recognisable gravelly voice shot her to fame and Total Eclipse of the Heart is such a classic 80s power ballad.

Sad indeed. I thought she was wonderful, a great singer .

Roselilly36 · Today 11:16

RIP Bonnie, thank you for the music and great memories they evoke for me.

Notagain26 · Today 11:17

Very sad. She was fantastic. She came across much younger than her age. Sorry to hear she had been very unwell for several months.

Umbilicat · Today 11:23

That's so sad. She had an amazing voice and from interviews I've seen was a total laugh as well. She loved her status as a gay icon. RIP Bonnie/

Happyjoe · Today 11:29

While I never warmed to her music, she was a big part of the 80's, the big songs, the big hair, she was pretty impressive.

She left a legacy and small comfort to her family, at least she passed away without suffering, being in a coma.

RIP
Although she was a bit before my time, I recently worked with someone who was related to her and she sounded like a lot of fun.

RubyMentor · Today 11:44

Her music was very much a part of my teen years in the 80's and we grew up in the same village. RIP Bonnie

HollyHoly · Today 11:46

My fav was the Bonnie & Meatloaf album. Both gone now 😔

MShadows · Today 11:55

very sad, such a talent.

teachingsun · Today 11:56

Ah, I'm so sorry to hear that. Both me and my DD have been listening to her lots just lately. I liked her very much.

Seems right to revisit this old fave. I like to think Bonnie liked it.

I read an interview once and apparently she really did!

Imaginary86 · Today 12:24

So sad, she seemed like a lovely lady with an amazing voice 😍

Imaginary86 · Today 12:25

I need a hero was my favourite song of hers

Much as I love TEOTH, I can never not think of the Mastercard ad when I hear it! m.youtube.com/watch?v=458pGbQcT1Y&pp=ygUXQm9ubmllIHR5bGVyIG1hc3RlcmNhcmQ

Ah I’m quite shocked. She played a gig at my DH’s work party only a few months ago. Sounds very sudden. How sad.

Edited

She's been very ill for a quite a while, sadly the signs hadn't been positive.
For those of us who came of age in the 80s her music was a large part of the soundtrack

Sad news

Oh I didn’t realise she had been ill for a while.

Very sad news.

Awwww, how sad. She hasn't been well all year has she? 😢

So many singers sound like 5 or 6 others these days, but she came from a time when singers all had a unique voice; Alison Moyet, Holly Johnson, Kim Wilde, Debbie Harry, George Michael, David Bowie, Sting, Lemmy, Elton John, Freddie Mercury, and many more...

And Bonnie was no exception, she had a real powerhouse, husky, gravelly voice that chucked out some belters... Lost In France, It's A Heartache, Total Eclipse, Holding Out For A Hero, Faster Than The Speed Of Night, Have You Ever Seen The Rain, Lovin' You's A Dirty Job, More Than A Lover, and some great covers of popular songs which she would perform at her concerts.

R.I.P. A Welsh Legend! ❤ 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

I’m so sad to hear this news, I genuinely thought she’d pull through her recent operation. It would have been a steep hill to climb but I genuinely thought she’d pull through would have made it.

South Wales has lost one of its own, may she RIP.

CosiFannyTutte · Today 13:22

Sad news. Rest in peace, Bonnie.

Only two nights ago, a young girl was outside on the green belting out the first lines from the chorus of 'Total Eclipse', over and over.

I wonder if the young ones are listening to 80s hits a lot. The other night, my sixteen-year-old and her friends were listening to The Human League, A-ha and David Bowie. And they went to see the Michael Jackson film too and thought it was brilliant.

She had come out of the coma.
However being in a coma doesn’t mean you aren’t in pain. It is also a pretty shit situation for the family.
