stand Up to racism believe such groups will and they know more about how far right groups operate than many people. Many of the group members have been standing up against racism since 1970s and 1980s

Isolating asylum seekers in basic accommodation far from amenities will benefit no one but a government cynically exploiting people’s fears about immigration. It will give the far right and racists yet another target for intimidation, just like their presence outside hotels accommodating asylum seekers and a similar ex-MoD camp near Crowborough. A similar proposal in 2002 saw a surge of activity from the National Front and British National Party that required a lengthy campaign to stop

I believe it is getting built for them.

But, suppose it is ex army...Good enough for the very best of British veterans, why not these men in need?

This is my feeling. As someone who spent 5 years living in Bicester at a time when there were loses of life from those very brave men. Im keen to understand why it was good enough for those who fought on the front line.

Icanseeasquirrel · 03/07/2026 05:46

If the UK is such a hostile and racist place maybe they are better off being protected by security in a dedicated place than given housing that UK people need. Win win.

The left will always lose their minds over asylum seekers not being given everything they want. But we’re in a democracy and people don’t want these undocumented people in their communities. Who is honestly most at risk of physical harm here?

By giving basic accommodation the government calls the bluff of those who say they are seeking protection and safety. They want to gain eventual residency while earning (or somehow acquiring) money and they can’t do that from a camp.

Tauranga · 03/07/2026 10:17

It is a very weak argument against the migrants being housed next door to them.

"We welcome refugees. But you can live next to them!"

I suspect it'll be because one of the group has one of their houses in Bicester

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 03/07/2026 10:23

Where are they supposed to go? 5 star hotels? With so many coming in, it's becoming very difficult to accommodate them in "standard" accommodation.

Wishitsnows · 03/07/2026 10:24

I don’t get why the camps are deemed good enough to house working/training soldiers but not people who choose to arrive here. They will also get all their medical needs catered for them in exchange for nothing.

Cannybeme · 03/07/2026 10:27

Hopefully the message will start filtering back to Sudan and Iran that the grass isn’t greener here.. and they’ll stop coming. We can hope.

Because the army was not hated by many individuals would have had cars to go places to do things

And they were busy working very different for people with no work stuck somewhere with nothing to occupy them.

Stand up to Racism HOPE some "far right" turn up....so they can fulfill the flimsy argument against housing the migrant men.

That makes no sense whatsoever.
What an unholy mess it all is. Terrifying.
Why the inverted commas around far right?

It's a convenient argument.
I'm not wilfully misunderstanding....I don't believe them.

I don’t believe them either OP. I’d love to be a fly on the wall at their meetings as they all try to convince themselves each other of their perfectly acceptable reasons why large numbers of fighting age male asylum seekers shouldn’t be housed in their lovely leafy area, and desperately try not to let the truth slip out.
