Stand up to racism Oxford: this group are against Bicester refugee camp

My mind is boggled.

They’re against the conditions in which they believe the refugees will be housed there, not against the refugees

Tauranga · 03/07/2026 00:43

This is the message they have next to their poster

Migrant accommodations are targetted when the migrant men are placed in local peoples areas and girls are abused or threatened. The people are not far right, but concerned parents.

If Bicester is a Refugee Welcome area I am guessing they will not have any trouble from any groups and the Bicester people can do as they wish. They can befriend the refugees as wasnpriposed the other day on mumsnet. Knit them blankets and teach English to them.

OP, they are saying that warehouse style refugee camps are a bad idea -it will become a target for racist anti-immigration rhetoric and ultimately put refugees and asylum seekers at risk of harm.
They are not against refugees.

Well, that's convenient. Where would be more suitable?

You sound very 1930’s Germany

Tauranga · 03/07/2026 00:51

If you hold a sign saying REFUGEES WELCOME then surely you are happy to welcome them in to your area?

Or are they only welcome in someone else's area?

Too funny

OP posts:
plims · 03/07/2026 00:53

You’re wilfully misunderstanding their point. They are not saying that refugees are not welcome in their area, just that they shouldn’t be house in substandard conditions

plims · 03/07/2026 00:55

OP, I see you’re all over MN spreading your anti-refugee message.

It's a convenient argument.
I'm not wilfully misunderstanding....I don't believe them.

I believe it is getting built for them.

But, suppose it is ex army...Good enough for the very best of British veterans, why not these men in need?

As I said the group welcomes asylum seekers but are against them being put into ex camps and asylum seekers being targeted by groups that wish them harm

TooMatchaMatcha · 03/07/2026 01:00

OP, you seem to find the English language and basic logic hard to follow. I'm not sure Mumsnet is really going to work out for you.

plims · 03/07/2026 01:01

OP, are you saying that rounding up groups of people and forcing them to live in camps is okay?

Tauranga · 03/07/2026 01:03

iwishihadaname · 03/07/2026 01:00

No one will go to this camp, locals are the ones who protest so it will be up to them I suppose. If they are happy with refugees, I'm guessing there will be no protests.

Because the army was not hated by many individuals would have had cars to go places to do things

No one will protest this.
Unless the locals protest.

But they welcome refugees.
Maybe the locals can take them into their homes and get paid 350£ if they think the qarehouses are too basic??

Locals protesting peacefully is not the issue it is the far right groups from outside the area who will come and make trouble

Out side groups will not come to this village unless asked to. And it seems these locals will not ask them...

stand Up to racism believe such groups will and they know more about how far right groups operate than many people. Many of the group members have been standing up against racism since 1970s and 1980s
