I do agree. But equally - 'imagine the DM posting a whole article about this. Get a life DM.'

None of this feels important.

AImportantMermaid · 01/07/2026 10:35

Kirstie Allsopp’s always been a bit of a mad baggage. She’ll calm down for a bit and then find something else to bang on about. The expression ‘That’s nice, dear’ is the only way to respond to people like that.

LoafofSellotape · 01/07/2026 10:38

Imagine getting so cross at a perfectly normal way to describe death. Mind you,she had a traumatic time with her own mum so no wonder she has strong feelings about it.

Oliveoy · 01/07/2026 10:46

I don't disagree with her. We shouldn't be afraid to name death for what it is, and euphemisms can seem twee.

That being said, it's very normal parlance, and she should have kept it as an inside thought really.

SilenceInside · 01/07/2026 10:49

What an odd thing to "rage" about and get into online spats about. Also going on in this way is drawing attention to herself rather than discussing the achievements and legacy of Penelope Keith, which seems a shame.

hugasaurus · 01/07/2026 10:49

Serious main character energy. Way to make someone’s death all about you.

WaterBubblesWonkyFruit · 01/07/2026 10:52

I completely agree with her, although she might have done better just to post her thoughts on the language rather than connecting it to a particular death.

blacksax · 01/07/2026 10:54

What does the daft bint say? I'm not one for reading anything produced by that despicable rag, so can anyone precis please?

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 01/07/2026 10:55

I never could stand KA anyway - to me she was so smug and bossy.

I do agree with her about ‘passed’ and ‘passed away’ though - to me they’re squeamish euphemisms for ‘…. has died’.

I can understand why people really dislike ‘dead’ though - as a child it always conjured up someone with their head cut off! Must have come from a gruesome pic in a history book.

The paper described the lady’s ‘passing’ and Kirstie wants them to say she died instead because she’s ’not a car’.

SleeplessStudent · 01/07/2026 10:57

It’s unfortunate the way it has been attached to a particular death, and she should know better than to be so clumsy but I do agree with her. I can’t stand the word passed, it’s died.

Touty · 01/07/2026 10:59

but there is no death, consciousness continues.

Nannyfannybanny · 01/07/2026 10:59

You need to watch the film ",The Best Years of our life", Robert Newton,he's dad, several generations living together, just after the war. Maiden aunt,he says to her "mother didn't pass over, pass on or pass out she died". Maiden aunt has the vapours. Celia Johnson is his wife,John Mills sil.

Why is the Despicable Rag giving this airhead any airtime at all? Nobody gives a shiny shit what she thinks.

Nannyfannybanny · 01/07/2026 11:02

That's the American one. It's called "This Happy Breed"

nopiesleftinthisvehicle · 01/07/2026 11:03

I'm a true Atheist but I like the saying.
Much prefer it to 'Died'

We do pass on anyway - into another form of energy.

The woman needs educating.

LeedsLoiner · 01/07/2026 11:05

After my dad died someone said to me "I hear you've lost your father" - I pointed to the cemetery, which was on a hill above the town, and said "No I haven't I know exactly where he is...".

catmothertes1 · 01/07/2026 11:08

I agree with the euphemism of "passed" or "passed away" being annoying but her ranting about it on X is plain weird.

blacksax · 01/07/2026 11:09

Why she used the car analogy is beyond me. Ridiculous thing to say, but then everything that comes out of her gob is ridiculous anyway.

Blueberrybonanza · 01/07/2026 11:11

Im with Kirsty its died, not passed away, passed on, lost etc.
I'm a nurse so for me the worst one though is ‘passed’ passed what, water? Urine, out?

Nannyfannybanny · 01/07/2026 11:17

I was also nursing 40 years I forgot about the "lost", elderly neighbour told me she had lost her dog, lots of sympathy from me. He wasn't dead!

JohnBullshit · 01/07/2026 11:28

Maybe old Kirstie gets confused when people on her local FB page spot the remains of animals at the side of the road and refer to them as 'passed'. As in, 'I saw a large tabby who had sadly passed on the Tesco roundabout'. I always have to resist Kirstie-ing up to ask follow-up questions, because poor old kitty presumably has a distressed owner. Kirstie should probably have done likewise and kept her thoughts to herself.

Tbf, she has got a point.

At least the DM didn't blare out 'Penelope Keith, dead at 81' which I always find a really horrible way to report on someone's death.

ruffler45 · 01/07/2026 11:38

I find the off switch very useful whenever she appears
