6 year old party favours?

Overthebow · 29/06/2026 21:40

What are the best party favors your 6 year old girl has got? I’m stuck for ideas, don’t want to spend a fortune but tired of the tat. Any ideas?

A book and a slice of the birthday cake. The Works or Books 4 People do good bundle deals.

I love the idea of books but my dd is unfortunately not much of a book person despite us trying since she was born. She’s way too energetic.

Does it matter if your DD isn't into books, most of her pals probably are and she won't get the party favour anyway if it's her party? If not I always think sugar is the easiest non tat alternative, a slice of cake, bag of sweets with some stickers has always gone down well - my DD got something like this from one of her friends party and she loved it

The favours are for the guests not the party host! But I understand...my DS8 has always asked for his own party bag until last year.

Yes she’ll definitely want a party bag.

Hot Wheels/Matchbox cars.
Yes...even for girls 😂

I just did sweet cones when my DD was young enough for whole class parties, job lot of clear icing bags and a few tubs of sweets from home bargains to fill them, the kids seemed happy enough.

I’m going to add some sweets in, but it’s not a whole class party so can hoping to give something in addition to sweets.

A small craft/making thing is good- you could bulk buy some beads/elastic/little bags and call it a bracelet making kit? Or a grow your own plant? Paint your own ceramic item? Bubbles and cake? One slightly larger thing is preferable to lots of little bits of plastic.

NuffSaidSam · 29/06/2026 22:08

Scrunchies
Hair clips particularly the coloured hair extension ones
Keyrings
Slap bands
Notepads
Pen that writes with invisible ink and has a torch on the end that shows the writing.
Torch
Bouncy ball
Moon ball

These have all been popular and actually played with.

I think the key is getting one or two things that are good quality instead of a bag full of tat.

hahabahbag · 29/06/2026 22:10

At that age I bought plain bird boxes from baker Ross and paints, the activity at the party was painting them they then took them home (plus cake and sweets)

This is all the wrong way round.

The party bags for the guests so your DD can have what they are getting.

It's good to teach them how to be polite.

A colouring book and small bags of sweets is enough.

Skipping ropes, paddle bat and ball or bubbles?
All available for £2 or under

Fucking hell

A few of DD's friends have had cute hair clips or scrunchies. Temporary tattoos are still popular too. Little bracelets have also been happily received.

A book and a slice of the birthday cake. The Works or Books 4 People do good bundle deals.

This seems to be a popular trend at the moment & in theory it’s lovely… but the quality of the book from this “The Works” deal is shocking, the majority are just AI none sense, terrible books that end up being donated, totally for it if people actually used decent books.

Hall84 · 29/06/2026 22:24

DDs class are still properly into notebooks and pens - they take them in to write little notes at break. Back in Feb I got unicorn pens from Amazon & multi packs of notebooks from b&m or similar. All in it was under £20

Yup, anyone who suggests this hasn't looked at the books in any way. They are crap and kids don't like them.

Iocanepowder · 29/06/2026 22:31

A popular gift at a friend’s party that went down very well was a whoopee cushion.

Do children really expect a party bag at their own party? As well as the gifts? Wow.

Nope in my experience you can get pretty decent books that have been heavily discounted. It's a 6 year old's party favour fgs not the Oscars goodie bag and OP wants to keep the cost down. Anyway OP has already said she won't be doing books.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 29/06/2026 22:17

I don't understand - do you prioritise the birthday child's wants when doing party bags??
The birthday kid gets the party and presents, the guests get the party bag. That's how it's always been.

No one actually wants more plastic crap, everyone already has a hundred scrunchies, clips, yo yos, pens, toys.

caringcarer · 29/06/2026 22:34

Stickers or stamper and a pretty note book and pens.

not sure why energetic kids can't read but anyway, you're not buying the party favour for her, but for her friends.
