6 year old party favours?

What are the best party favors your 6 year old girl has got? I’m stuck for ideas, don’t want to spend a fortune but tired of the tat. Any ideas?

Hot Wheels/Matchbox cars.
Yes...even for girls 😂

What! Only for boys-girls should get princess stuff.
Seriously, I'd have much preferred the cars and both my son and daughter would too.

notebook and secret pen with a light on is a good call, kids love them and it doesn't matter ilwhat type of kid, it can make any kind of activity.

little paint your own thing? we got colour your own bags with a few pens in, so the bag is part of the gift. some sweets, pen and notebook, slice of cake, maybe those big balloons?

not sure why energetic kids can't read but anyway, you're not buying the party favour for her, but for her friends.

My dd can read she just doesn’t enjoy it as she doesn’t have the concentration for it.

I know the party bags are for her guests mainly, but it’s her birthday and if she wants a party bag too then I’ll get her one. I think party bag gifts are a reflection of the party child, so I’d like to get favours that my dd would like to give to her friends.

You misunderstand party bags. Party bags are an expression of thanks to the guests.

sk what would she like to get for them?

and yes sorry, I worded "can't read" badly, I meant don't want to rather than incapable of.

That's what I meant 😂
People stereotype that cars are " just for boys" but they most definitely are not.

Carabiner clips (go on school bag)

For my 6 yo' party - The Works have fabric bags you can colour in which I used as party bags. I then did a paint your own ceramic statue/moneybox thing, a bit of cake and job done.

yes of course, but they’re thanks from her so should be what she’d give them.

Books are a nice idea, for the grown-ups. In reality kids will almost always prefer a party bag, even kids who do really like books. They are a cheap and easy option but prepare for some child to say loudly ‘Where are the party bags?’ and be shushed by an embarrassed parent going ‘Oh it’s books instead, isn’t that lovely?!’ Also the books are often shite and never get read more than once.

I love doing party bags though, the best things we’ve had are little mini Lego kits, ceramic painting kits, felt masks, little notepads or sticky notes are always popular, a colour-changing pen, a sticky gecko, some tattoos or stickers, scratch art bookmarks, etc. Then some sweeties. And yes my kids always get one too!

The year DD turned 6 I decided I wasn't doing plastic tat and gave them all a little pot full of compost (with a lid) and a couple of sunflower seeds (and a bag of Haribo, I didn't want a mutiny). They were all polite but clearly disappointed so plastic tat has been resumed. Fidget toys, tiny magna doodles, notebooks, pencils, rubbers, and some sweets.

A bit of cake

Yes she’ll definitely want a party bag.

I’ve never got this
they are for the guests to thank them for coming are they not?
the birthday child has all their own birthday gifts anyway
I’ve never given my own kids a party bag from their own party that’s not a thing surely? Not is it with their friends.
children need to learn to share, to say thankyou to friends and understand that they can’t have everything!

GrumpySparkler · 30/06/2026 12:54

Bath bomb
Mini haribo bag
Mini pringles tube
Cake/brownie
Maybe a balloon

I hate the bag of landfill that enters my house in a party bag, so try to limit what I put in to consumables 😂

At that age I bought plain bird boxes from baker Ross and paints, the activity at the party was painting them they then took them home (plus cake and sweets)

I came on to say baker Ross and use their stuff for an activity, as a retired teacher I can say lots of their things went down well, and I taught teens.

Things we've either given or received which have been appreciated

  • gymnastics ribbon
  • unicorn headband
  • slice of cake
  • £5 to spend in a local ice cream place or similar
  • colourful sunglasses
  • packet of seeds
  • fun shaped reusable straws
  • small craft kit
  • small building set (pop out hang glider that sort of thing)
  • thumb kites
  • bubble jewellery

We usually have a party at home and will do an activity which then forms the bulk of the party bag. We've made bug hotels, tie dyed t shirts, decorated hats with fabric pens. Works for us.

When our girls were small we used to do a sort of pick and mix. I filled a big pretty basket with al sorts of stuff and let the guests pick three things, We had things like hair bobbles, jewellery, pencils, rubbers, notebooks, bubbles, key rings, little books, bouncy balls, paper planes, toy cars, finger puppets, all sorts of bits. Usually with a bit of cake to take home in a little bag. Worked quite well for a few years. Me and another mum used to swap a box of stuff back and forth between parties and just add bits to it.

coodawoodashooda · 30/06/2026 16:09

Fun flavoured shower gel or bubble bath.

Bitzee · 30/06/2026 16:59

Bath bomb, gymnastics ribbon, funky reusable straw, key ring, temporary tattoos, balloon, sweets - all things that would have gone down well with DD at that age. I agree with not doing cheap books, you get what you pay for and the kids don’t like them.

SweepSqueaks · 30/06/2026 17:20

Skipping rope
yo-yo

Cismyfatarse · 30/06/2026 21:27

Our best ever was a lucky dip. One for wrapped sweets, one for a small gift. They loved it. Much more exciting.

usererror99 · 30/06/2026 21:43

Plant pots with seeds - depending on time of year Xmas tree seeds or pumpkin seeds were always a winner

hair scrunchies were also a fave - if you have a sewing machine they are really easy to make your own too

(I hate the tat you get in party bags - no one really needs bouncy balls and slinky toys and my number 1 pet hate….slap bands!)
