If you generally don't like processed food, what exceptions do you make?

Because I love those lamb kebab skewer things - you know the minced lamb squished onto a stick. Bbq With a Greek salad that I of course make myself

@familyiconsi make my own bread but tend to slice then freeze it. Pull out a slice or two a few times a week for toast or a sandwich.
lots of easy no knead recipes online if you do fancy giving it a bash

Charlie Bighams curries when on offer 😁
Packet rice for making homemade fried rice
Burgers, occasionally
Battered frozen fish
Sainsbury's Tiramisu loaf cake
Posh quiche lorraine

But I always make my own pasta sauces, pesto, veggie quiche, mostly my own cakes, hummus, meatballs, curries (sometimes use Thai curry paste though) and things like crumbles and tarts. It's just personal preference - for me, ones in the second list are just very easy things to make, or I can usually make better versions myself, or I think the ready-made versions are too pricey!

I did not know about a tiramisu loaf cake! Sounds delicious and just added to my Saturday delivery 😋

hahabahbag · 29/06/2026 21:18

I buy very little processed food, exceptions are minimally processed foods like cheese, Greek yogurt, dried pasta, canned tomatoes and coconut milk, and yes those lamb koftas (which are raw meat, spices and not much else) and burgers, the good ones though I do make my own of both sometimes.

I'm a bit particular about actual tiramisu but it it's blinking delicious 😀 enjoy!

Prawn cocktail crisps. I could eat only those for life. Luckily for my health I don’t live in the UK so have limited access.
Also the occasional Chinese takeaway again if I am back in the UK. I will say though that since eating much less UPF, a Chinese takeaway is like taking drugs. I have the most insane vivid dreams the night after eating one!!!

Slightly off topic but another thing that shocked me was the absolute sweetness of baked beans. If you eat zero or v little UPF for a long period of time, then try baked beans, honestly they taste as sweet as syrup sponge!!

Twix bars. I would like one now but I am 20 miles from the nearest shop.

Vargas · 30/06/2026 17:46

Crisps

I could happily live the rest of my life without biscuits or cake or ice cream but life without crisps? Pointless 😂.

Packet brown rice
Vanilla ice creamer Mackies
linda McC red onion sausages

i don’t worry about it. 10-20% of processed usually can’t be helped.

Couldron veggie sausages.

Agree, but I prefer the Lincolnshire to the Cumberland.

I bought some Leon chicken nuggets from a motorway services and was so disappointed that I emailed their customer services from my car after throwing them in the bin- they were really awful.

I got a reply from a carpet shop in Canada, who were very polite, but said they couldn’t help 🤦‍♀️😂.

What ????

Gallusoldbesom · 01/07/2026 17:28

Kraft macaroni cheese, bright orange, more e- numbers than you can shake a stick at but reminds me of being a kid in the 70s, could literally eat the whole potful even though it allegedly serves 2-3.

BullshitCentral · 01/07/2026 17:33

Vegan beyond burgers, alpro yogurts and oat milk.

By the way, has anyone tried that Yuka app? For those of us who aren't sure stuff is ever shut it's really interesting

I've got the yuka app.
I scanned a tub of the new m and s heather honey ice-cream which boasts only 5 ingredients or something.

From memory it said it had cream, milk and honey in it.
The yuka app said it had a higher level of salt in it.
Salt wasn't one of the ingredients, so it must have been the trace salt from dairy products which googled to get info on cos I found it so surprising.

Some products will always get a bad rating on yuka, eg butter as it's got too much fat in it so it depends what your goal is in using it and you have to apply your own logic for your own way of eating.

Just wondering why GF scampi, but then taramasalata, which is full of wheat?

(and if anybody knows of some sold that is a) GF, b) ever in stock and c) sold in quantities of less than a bucket, I'd be very grateful).

Probably cheaper to make it yourself though!

Can of coke a day!! Avoid anything else, read labels etc

A McDonald’s! Day to day I eat quite a ‘clean’ (just meaning food cooked from bare ingredients at home, nothing pre marinaded, no shop bought/jarred sauces etc) diet but every now and then I fancy a hamburger from McDonald’s. So I have one and enjoy it and 3 months later I might have another one!
not the big burgers, one of the ones you get in a kids happy meal 😂

I have an obsessive desire for a Maccys every once in a while. My local has relaunched with cheap voucher offers atm and every night I think “yes baby” . But it’s weirdly the one thing I can’t actually go and buy.
It’s very odd because I can definitely buy the family sized crisps, crap chocolate and wine when I fancy it.
No idea why I have a Maccys filter.

JulesJules · 01/07/2026 22:23

Richmond veggie sausages. Wine.
