If you generally don't like processed food, what exceptions do you make?

Because I love those lamb kebab skewer things - you know the minced lamb squished onto a stick. Bbq With a Greek salad that I of course make myself

A very high quality sausage to have in a finger bun with roasted onions and ketchup and mustard in the summer outside.

The M&S salmon and rocket fishcakes, no breading on them, are delicious.

Gravy granules when I'm pushed or lazy.

Those fish cakes sound good but I’ve just looked on Ocado and I can’t find them.

My husband had the M&S fish cakes this evening with salad. He said they were great! I had a burger in a bun with ketchup, cheese and spring onions…absolutely amazing!

PracticallyPeapod · 25/06/2026 22:00

Oh loads. Bacon fries crisps. All kinds of biscuits. McCain fries. I assume packet gnocchi is UPF. I don’t cook for health reasons I just don’t like the taste of most processed food.

I had an ice cream maker back in the day, but now it's just two of us and the kids have left. There doesn't seem to be a point.

I usually make it just for me!

I’ve been eating strawberry sorbet today and very delicious it was too!

JustPlainStanfreyPock · 25/06/2026 22:06

Quorn sausages
Oven chips, preferably crinkle cut!

But I've never eaten a McDonald's and never intend to...😳

Aviarythebird · 25/06/2026 22:07

Monster Munch. It’s just not something you can recreate at home

By the way, has anyone tried that Yuka app? For those of us who aren't sure stuff is ever shut it's really interesting

My daughter recommended it a couple of weeks ago and I have downloaded it but forgot to use it last time I went shopping!

momager22 · 25/06/2026 22:13

Do you mean ultra processed food ? Most stuff you buy in the shops e.g tinned tomatoes/ dried rice Is processed and totally fine

this. When people say they have a ready meal or a takeaway, I think I'd rather have some pasta or a baked potato

and processed cakes YUK Although a Marks and Spencer Eccles cake from the bakery is delicious

@Shinyhappyapple they are on Ocado https://www.ocado.com/products/m-s-2-smoked-salmon-rocket-fishcakes/516762011?srsltid=AfmBOor6mvnrusHDXUEQ3MVUtO3zO7_9imlT1Y07ljZeipAPrxqsGLS4

sadly, although not breaded they are also not suitable for coeliacs as they contain wheat flour and barley malt vinegar.

M&S are definitely one of the worst for this (adding wheat flour to an otherwise naturally GF dish, when it could easily be substituted with cornflour/ spirit or wine vinegar etc) - things like their salads look “clean” but then you read the ingredients.

likimagee · 26/06/2026 07:53

Tortilla wraps and taco shells.
Heinz seriously good mayo, can easily get less processed versions but I like the taste!
I like a sparkling drink, I try to go for less processed like Dash and Appletiser, but sometimes a cold coke is needed.
Kitkat chunky

I found myself really going off McDonalds egg McMuffins when I reduced UPFs, they tasted like paper and I hated the texture, it’s amazing how your taste buds change when you start reducing
UPFs. I went quite evangelical for a while (I’m talking homemade bread only, snacks were homemade cakes) but I’m a bit more balanced now.

jetlag92 · 26/06/2026 07:58

The only UPF I eat is diet coke (one can every two days) and it has to be in a can or a glass bottle, I don't drink it in a plastic bottle, from a soda stream or when we go abroad as it tastes wrong!

Mysticguru · 26/06/2026 07:59

A croissant or two occasionally

Martingale86 · 26/06/2026 08:03

I genuingly don't eat any upf at home now as I no longer like the taste of it. I do occasionally eat it to be polite though or when eating out and am not sure what is in things. I eat plenty of processed food though, lots of FinnCrisp crackers which only have flour, salt and yeast.

frozendaisy · 26/06/2026 08:07

Tonissister · 25/06/2026 21:27

I hate most processed food but love butterscotch angel delight. Doesn't get more processed than that.
Also have a recent craving for cornflakes and rice krispies. I hadn't eaten them in decades but now have them for breakfast almost every day.

Reckon pickled onion monster munch can enter the ring for most processed ever!

Purpleandping · 26/06/2026 08:36

In my head, old fashioned processed food doesn't count. So Sausages, fishfingers and sliced bread are all OK.

Those fish cakes sound good but I’ve just looked on Ocado and I can’t find them.

They also do similar in Morrisons, salmon with a hollandaise sauce filling, or at least they used to do - I can't see them on the website, but they might have them in store.

familyicons · 26/06/2026 12:28

Oh lord. I don't make my own bread. I'd be size 20 if I did.
