I’ve been listening to old episodes of I’m Sorry I Haven’t a Clue on radio four, and oh, I miss Jeremy Hardy.

A funny, talented man gone too soon.

Agree, and John Diamond (Nigella’s first husband ), his book about his cancer diagnosis is well-written and he describes his heartache when (because of pronunciation problems following his operation), he had to use the word “yes” rather than “absolutely “. He didn’t want to be that person

Netcurtainnelly · 26/06/2026 08:51

The Royle Family.

Nitgel · 26/06/2026 08:54

Alan Rickman. Such a loss. Have just finished reading his diaries and it made me so sad. I hope they find an early detection for pancreatic cancer.

Tonissister · 26/06/2026 08:54

OP - I knew Jeremy Hardy slightly years ago (friend of friends). He came across as a lovely man.

Kirsty McColl.

Ian Dury.

Marilyn Monroe. I always felt she would have become formidable in old age. She was so funny, so wise.

George Michael. Still cuts like a knife that he's gone.

TheGriffle · 26/06/2026 08:55

Rik Mayall
Victoria Wood

Both comedy geniuses I miss a lot.

Greeniscalming · 26/06/2026 08:56

George Michael. Everything he did still sounds so good but my heart breaks every time I hear it.

PersephoneParlormaid · 26/06/2026 08:56

I agree with George Michael and Victoria Wood, and I’d like to have seen what would have happened to the monarchy with Princess Diana still around.

Pabbel · 26/06/2026 08:58

Paul o grady in for love of dogs at Battersea, i miss his humour on the radio also

Nitgel · 26/06/2026 09:19

Yes to Paul O'Grady. I was watching reruns of blankets blank and couldn't stop laughing. Same for Victoria Wood. I miss the laughs.

In the same vein as Robert Hardy: Linda Smith, brilliantly funny dry wit

Pudmyboy · 26/06/2026 10:22

And Caroline Aherne of course

DreamingOfGeneHunt · 26/06/2026 10:28

George Michael, loved that man, beautiful voice, beautiful soul.
Princess Diana, think things would have been very different if she was still alive, god bless her.

Silverbirchleaf · 26/06/2026 23:06

Lucinda Riley - author of the Seven Sisters series and died before the final book was completed (co- written with her son). It’s sad that she never completed the series herself.

BatchCookBabe · 26/06/2026 23:07

Agree with many of these, also Tommy Cooper and Robin Williams.

Yootha Joyce.

shellyleppard · 26/06/2026 23:14

Another one for the late great fabulous Freddie Mercury.

Hermiaxx · 26/06/2026 23:52

Sean Lock

MeekSqueak · 27/06/2026 21:46

I used to love it when I unexpectedly came across something with Linda Smith on when I was listening to R4 etc, the joy of it.
