Leaving laundry out overnight

I've made the decision to leave the laundry out on the whirly thing overnight, as it's still damp.
I've checked the forecast and there's not a drop of rain on the radar for my locality, yet... it feels a bit... reckless.

What would you do?

Mine was just dry, so I brought it in. But no qualms whatsoever about leaving it out overnight.

Dreamstosell · 18/06/2026 23:03

Wouldn’t have a problem hanging the washing out overnight but unfortunately our weather forecast says >95% chance of heavy rain overnight and tomorrow so probably not a good idea here 😂

PreparationIsKey · 18/06/2026 23:05

I would and would also save me pegging it out before work tomorrow however I have a neighbour who loves a bonfire frequently around 3x a week so I can't. The spiders can wipe their Willie's on something else lol

LettuceAndCarrots · 18/06/2026 23:27

I often do but it often gets rained on.

I leave mine to get darked on all the time, I feel that people can tell when I then wear it, gives me a bit of a rebellious edge.

"Yeah, I'm wearing a T-shirt that many spiders have dragged their willys on, what's it to you?"

🤣🤣🤣

Crispynoodle · 18/06/2026 23:42

But it will get darker on and the spiders will rub their willies over it! Everyone knows this

PickAChew · 18/06/2026 23:43

I wouldn't overthink it. It's just laundry.

LiveLuvLaugh · 18/06/2026 23:46

Always do. It’s often dry by morning.

rwalker · 18/06/2026 23:48

I’ve never understood the issue with leaving it out and quite often peg it out be I go to bed as can’t be arsed in the morning before work

towels have been known to be left out till there dry after be rained in multiple times

HoppingPavlova · 18/06/2026 23:49

Why not? My standard is to wash of an evening, hang out that night, get in late the next afternoon. Except in Summer as I’m in a hot country where I can get two loads a day dry by washing of an evening, hang out of a night, wash another load in morning, get first load of drying in around lunch, hang out second load, get that in late evening. Irrespective, I always have washing out overnight and I wash at least 5 days a week.

UPDATE!

I know, I know, you've all had a sleepless night worrying about how my laundry got on.
Well, I'm pleased to report it survived all the known nighttime hazards 🎉
*Although I'm unsure whether I've managed to come through unscathed from the neighbours judgement!)

I hope you've all had similar success stories overnight, and your laundry is wafting merrily in the morning sunshine.
Thanks for all your support MN! 🙌

Thoughts and prayers for you OP when the spiders hidden in your laundry rub their willies on you at unsuspecting moments.

Someone who doesn’t care if her colours fade or her whites go yellow!

I bet it was during a spell of rain where there wasn’t enough sun to change the colour of clothes!

Oh goodness, I've just got in from work so I've not actually checked if there's evidence of any sordid activity 😱

I always do my washing in the evening.

In the summer months, when the machine finishes, around 10pm i go into the garden and hang it out, often in the dark in my PJs.
(In worse weather it drys over night on the clothes horse next to the aga)
