Good Morning Mumsnet! What's Everyone up to Today?

I'm just drinking my first cuppa of the day, in my conservatory spot, with boy cat. He's bird watching out the window but my feeders are empty & I've run out of seed to refill them 😥. May nip to B&M after work tomorrow or Tuesday for some.

Today is another day of wardrobe building - top to screw down, shelf to go in, drawers to build, doors to go on. Hopefully done by mid-day! When it's done, I'll help dd2 hang and organise her clothes if she wants. If not, I have 3 walls of the hallway to finish painting with <this> much paint left. My dad nipped to B&Q for me on Friday but it's been recalled to re-brand 🙄. I'm toying with watering down what's left slightly.

Assuming it's not too late when that's done, we're going to bedazzle dd2's school leaver's shirt. If it's getting late after wardrobe building, I'll skip the painting for today to do the shirt.

Somewhere in there I need to book trains and flights with dd1for gigs over the next few weeks, and organise someone (hopefully my dad) to be here on Friday morning for my new sofa delivery. Some dickhead booked the wrong delivery day & didn't realise they'd made their life a touch more difficult 🤔.

Tea might be a help yourself affair - I forgot to get anything out last night. Or, it might be sausages, they should defrost quickly.

What about all of you? 🙂

I’m 5 days post hip replacement surgery and I’m going to attempt to do a couple of things independently and walk for 5 mins.
I’m in my early 40’s so young to be having this procedure and fairly fit/strong so hoping that will be to my advantage.
DH and DS have to go out later so I’ll be left on my own for the first time since getting out of hospital 😬

SparklyGlitterballs · 07/06/2026 08:52

I've just had some tea and toast. I'll be getting ready soon to go and visit my mum for a few hours. She lives local and will be 90 this year, so needs regular check ins.

it looks likely to be the first nice day here for a while so this afternoon I hope to finish building a shed base. I've had to step up with DIY and stuff since DH died a couple of years ago. I've built the base from scratch from wood using power tools and I've already prepared the area where it will sit. I still have to paint it with bituminous paint to protect it before securing it in place. It's a great feeling of achievement when I do things like this. My dad was always very good at DIY and I like to think I learned a lot from watching him.

Purplecatshopaholic · 07/06/2026 08:56

Chilling in bed with my dogs at the moment. Watching the tennis later (come on Cobolli!) Dog walks and relaxing with DP. Love a chilled Sunday. Have a good one everyone.

Well done you. They say the sooner you get up and about (without overdoing it obvs) then the better the healing journey. I had a knee replacement last November and apart from a faint scar you wouldn't know. Hopefully you can rest it when your DH and DS go out later. Get them to leave everything you'll need within reach.

Thank you! Everyone I speak to is so positive about the procedure. I just need to get through these first few days!

I’m not used to taking things slowly so that’s my biggest challenge!

Beautifulsunflowers · 07/06/2026 09:05

Currently in bed with a cup of tea scrolling on Mumsnet.
looks like it’s going to be dry today so I’ll pop to the garden centre for some compost as I have a few plants that need repotting.
i got some beef out of the freezer yesterday to defrost so will cook a roast tonight but need to pop to the shops to get veggies.
then I’ll get some ironing done for the week ahead.
happy Sunday everyone

DilemmaDelilah · 07/06/2026 09:14

Good morning @lucysmam and everyone. How busy you are! I am full of admiration.

We are going out to Next to pick up the parcel I should have picked up yesterday, then we'll pop into M&S foodhall for some salad and to see if anything nice has been yellow-stickered. And, since we're there, we may have a little mooch around TK Maxx as well.

I had a couple of pairs of linen trousers from Vinted delivered yesterday, so they need ironing before they are packed - I expect I will do that this afternoon.

I'm not sure what we're eating this evening. It will either be cold chicken with baked potatoes and salad, or something yellow-stickered from M&S with veg from the freezer. I have lots of carrots and things I froze myself when they were ultra-cheap before Easter, and it wouldn't hurt at all to use some of those up... particularly as we will soon be picking courgettes and I will have to have room to store those too. I might actually just ratatouille them with some of our (hopefully) tomato glut and whatever peppers we have and our home-grown garlic (I'm not keen on aubergines) and then bottle it rather than freezing it. It's all hypothetical at the moment anyway. Our marrows have lots of flowers, our tomatoes have a few flowers, our peppers have no flowers yet and I haven't yet pulled the garlic.

Youngest daughter and Houdini are on his first holiday abroad at the moment and he seems to be loving it so far. Apart from living abroad when I was a child I didn't have a foreign holiday until I was in my 40s, so I'm very envious.

Mydogisagentleman · 07/06/2026 09:14

Still in Spain.
I've been up since 6.30, walked the dog and washed and hung out 2 loads of sheets and towels.
Not sure what we are eating for lunch or dinner today. All the shops are closed and DH got fish yesterday. I don't eat it so I'll be hungry or eating breakfast cereal.
Will walk along the bit of the beach that the dog is allowed on shortly

FayKnights · 07/06/2026 09:34

Morning @lucysmam & the Sunday gang.

Sounds like lots of lovely plans afoot!

I’m still in bed but will be hauling myself out shortly to get my first cup of tea.
I woke up at 6 for first wees for dogs and me!
But headed back to bed for a snooze.

We are heading into London later to watch a play, which a friend of ours is acting in, we haven’t seen him in ages so will have a good catch up afterwards.

@Mydogisagentleman sorry to be nosey, what’s your preferred mode of transport to get to Spain with the dogs, I assume you travel from the UK?
I’d love to be able to take our boys with us.

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 07/06/2026 09:34

Good lucysmam and others. I was expecting a tesco delivery at 8, so I've been up early. I had 2 coffees while I was waiting and put tops on the heated airer to finish drying as well as washing a few things. I've chopped the rhubarb ready to make jam in a bit and got the veg out to make soup. The dishwasher is running as well. So a productive start. Im just having an almond croissant with a cup of tea. Later I'll make jam and lentil soup and put bolognaise in the slow cooker too. I might make banana bread for dsil. A day in the kitchen! Enjoy your day all.

windyinthewillows76 · 07/06/2026 09:36

Morning all. I was up at 4:30am as always, then went back to bed for cwtches with dp at 7:00am, fell back to sleep and got up a 8:30am. Dp made me a coffee whilst I MN. I have so much to do today- the house is upside down! I have so much washing to put it away the kitchen looks ridiculous. Ds21 is home from uni this week and will go spare if he sees it as he hates mess and clutter, I so wish I had that gene! Debating making sausage baps for brunch as I have some sausages and rolls to use up. I'll see if ds26 can stomach them, as he was out with his work colleagues yesterday and let's just say fairly wobbly when he came in last night lol.

Then for lunch I'm making chicken Kiev, ranch salad and sweet potato fries. Was going to have them last night but dp fancied a takeaway (he paid so I can't complain !) we put out normal Chinese order into just eat as that was what we fancied- £49.89!!! That was for rice, chips, noodles , beef curry and crispy shredded beef. I can't believe how expensive they've gone, so we opted for pizza instead which was £20.

@ElaineMBenesgood luck on your recovery! Take it easy, don't push yourself to hard, but move as much as you can (within reason) x

Mydogisagentleman · 07/06/2026 09:38

@FayKnights I drove him over. Plymouth to Santander then down.
He's a good boy, uncomplaining and adaptable.
Not looking forward to the return trip. We leave on 30th and the weather has got much hotter since we came 8 weeks ago.

Kim82 · 07/06/2026 09:49

Good morning everyone, just me up so far today. I’ve fed the cats and I’m just about to make my second cup of tea of the day. I have another busy day today as I found a really good second hand bedroom furniture set for sale on Facebook yesterday (looks brand new) and it was too good of a deal to pass up for dd11’s bedroom so I now need to spend the day shuffling wardrobes around the house to get everything in the correct rooms. The one in dd18’s bedroom will come back downstairs into dh’s bedroom (it matches the one already in there), dd11’s will then go into dd18’s bedroom and then ds24 is coming with me to pick up the new set and help me drag it upstairs to dd11’s room. I also need to do a tip run with the rest of dd11’s furniture as it’s not good enough to re-sell. It’s looking like it will be an all day job unfortunately for me. Tea will be a quick and easy corned beef hash with red cabbage and this evening will no doubt be spent putting everybody’s clothes in their respective new wardrobes, putting the new accessories we bought yesterday in place, ironing work and school clothes, cleaning the rest of the house, showers and falling into bed. I’m tired already!

lljkk · 07/06/2026 09:55

just washed a mountain of dishes, now having breakfast
2 little errands;
work for 3 hours to make up for 3 hours I'll miss later in week due to volunteering
home for lunch (linner?);
2 hour cycle ride
shower
talk to elderly dad on phone
misc. admin

NotAChanceIn · 07/06/2026 10:01

Still lazing in bed. Checked and sad to see I didn't win the lottery last night.
DD13 woke around 9, ventured for breakfast and has retreated back to her room.
think it will be a pj day today. Got a bit of ironing to do, going to do a Sunday dinner and may sort out a light kit on my Lego set I've been threatening to do forever.

gingercat02 · 07/06/2026 10:03

Morning all.
My sleep is shocking atm, so I'm off to my class in a few minutes and then I plan to have a relaxing Sunday.
Monaco F1, after lunch, need to do a sports wash and a delicates wash at some point.
I'll watch last night's 2 weeks in August at some point.
No idea on tea as yet.
Enjoy your day everyone 😊

Larrythecatforpm · 07/06/2026 10:04

Me and ds10 are up, he’s watching the simpsons while I am doing some chores. Hopefully take him out in a bit to the park if the weather holds up!
Making a roast chicken dinner for tea and just pottering about other than that.

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 07/06/2026 10:06

I just ran 18k which is my longest run for a while, and now splurging on sourdough toast with peanut butter.

DH taken kids and PILs to local NT property for a walk and ice cream. Peace...

I will batch cook meals for week later and probably take kids out to a playground.

SockQueen · 07/06/2026 10:09

It's my birthday! I'm just finishing breakfast in bed then will get showered and go to church. DH has booked somewhere for lunch - I don't know where, but he says I'll like it. Then a few hours chilling, maybe a walk depending on weather, and maybe a nap. In the evening I'm taking DS1 to the "launch night" for a panto he's desperate to be in. It's all new for us so I don't quite know what to expect, but he's very enthusiastic!

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 07/06/2026 10:16

Happy birthday @SockQueen !

Tiddlywinks63 · 07/06/2026 10:18

Good morning @lucysmam and crew, it’s cold, damp and thoroughly un-June like here, I lit the wood burner yesterday and will do so again later.
Happy Birthday @SockQueen , I hope you have a great day.
I’ve prepared dinner, the pork joint is in the oven, roast potatoes, cauliflower cheese, cabbage and peas ready.
I’m trying to work out how to reline a sewing box that has old fabric very firmly glued in place; it’s tatty and I have bought something nicer to do it with.
Apart from that nothing happening here!

Blahblahblahhhhhs · 07/06/2026 10:20

Morning morning.

im the one trying to turn booktok into a side hustle- in the last three weeks I have made approximately £250 cash , and got 5 new books free .

I have been online for an hour this morning, I have a post to do just general content about my latest book , then a sales one . Won’t take long , then I’ll do an hour tonight before husband comes home.

at the moment it’s quietly working well .

apart from that the kitchen needs a good cleaning, vacuum through and washing away. Ready for a new real job working week .

dd at work till 10 and husband will be late, so I might get some peace and quiet in the garden

have a great Sunday

mamaduckbone · 07/06/2026 10:24

Morning @lucysmam and all!
I’ve not been on here for a while - glad to hear your new home is getting sorted.
I've been for a run and chat with my friend, had porridge and a coffee and just about to get showered. Dh has cleaned the kitchen (angel!) and is playing records downstairs, ds2 is still in bed but will need to get up and ready for work soon.
I need to write some reports and pack ready for school residential tomorrow, but hoping to get a nice walk in with Dh at some point too and a coffee out.
ds1 has been staying with a friend but heading back at some point today so we may or may not have him and his gf for dinner. Either way it will be roast chicken but not sure yet whether it will be with potatoes and veg or salad - depends how the weather turns out today.
