Should we go home a day early?

Boring question but I cant decide.

Booked in a cottage until Saturday but I'm fed up.

Had lovely weather but it's set to rain tomorrow and other than the beach there isn't much to do.

It's somewhere we come to at least once a year (have had our main holiday here some years) so we know the area really well. Nothing we haven't done so to speak.

I'm on my own with 3 DC as DP had to go back for work on Tuesday. They are generally well behaved but DC1 cut their foot so the beach isn't ideal for them (and today they spent most of the day on the promenade in a deck chair reading)

It's been incredibly busy all week and there has sadly been a lot of anti social behaviour. Hoards of teenagers have descended on the town and it's been quite intimidating - I say that as a life long Londoner. Seems to be a mix of half term, good weather and the local station having no ticket barriers that has made this beautiful little spot a meet up place that has gone viral.

We're okay as we go to a smaller, off the beaten track beach but we're all a bit sick of the beach and as I say its meant to rain tomorrow.

Despite all that I still can't make a decision. Part of me thinks we're here and we should just "make the most". We live in central London so should savour every moment in nature etc. But I kind of want to go home. The older kids want to go home - although their motives are clearly different as they want to get back to "see" thier mates ie: jump online.

I have an open ticket but if we leave it will be early tomorrow. I don't want to get caught up in all the weekend comings and goings that have seen the small station closed due to overcrowding all week.

TL;DR our last day of a mediocre break is going to be wet, should be just sack it off and go home?

Edited to add, not sure how I managed to get a typo in the poll?

OP, go home. As others have said, it sounds like you have probably outgrown this type of holiday now. The kids will remember them though.
Have a fantastic holiday in August.

If you’ve had enough, go home and enjoy the weekend at home.

I would stay ideally. Have a super chilled day. Takeaway or somewhere easy to eat out. Play cards. Go somewhere if there is a break in the weather. With a break from the heat it may be much more peaceful and more like the previous version of the place.

Have a good trip back. Hope you can make the most of the last day of holiday at home.

So sorry that these awful louts have driven you away. I live in Broadstairs and it’s just so depressing to watch people come here and disrespect our home so thoroughly. Hopefully the railway company will add barriers in which may help a bit, but otherwise j really don’t know what the answer is.

As someone that’s lives in Kent
I really want to know where it was

I’ll probably just give a knowing nod of the head

Read the thread, it's in there.

If you feel ill or miserable then its better to be home than in a strange place. In your position I would probably vote to travel early and miss the weekend rush.

I live in Kent and regularly visit Broadstairs (day trips) it’s so sad what’s happened there . It’s one of my favourite places.
That said I voted for you to leave and I’m glad you’re on your way.

I spoke to lots of locals (mainly shop keepers / workers) and barriers at the station did come up quite a lot.

By the end of the week there was security at the top of Viking Bay, doing bags searches (but the groups were still accessing the beach from Louisa Bay and the lower level near the carpark). There was also transport police at the station. It felt much calmer on Wednesday but ramped up again Thursday.

I'm a hardy Londoner so was shocked at how intimidating I found it.

I hope your Council and local services find the answer, Broadstairs has always been my happy place.

This post is everything that is wrong with society!

I've seen that you are home now, but I'll still put in my experience. We went to Cornwall for a week and had rain most of the week, but we still got out and did things. We just packed for the weather and used the accommodation to chill. We had two sunny days which we used for a beach trip with the dog, and a trip to Pencarrow house and then we went to Eden project which although it was a bit cold and rainy we could shelter and take it in turns to go around the biomes. It was a great week.

Awfulinlaws · Today 09:58

This is so grim. Particularly for locals and small businesses. Also dangerous for the drunken youths if they then go into the water. Should be large fines for littering, strongly enforced. Our local areas closer the city are left full of rubbish and broken glass. Also mini barbecues used on dry grass and left.

Awfulinlaws · Today 10:04

“Large groups of youths were filmed brawling and throwing chairs at restaurant staff in Broadstairs, with local business owners saying their properties had been damaged.”

"They attacked staff and when they couldn't break the window, they came down here and broke ours instead."
