Do you feel in your prime or past your peak?

Do you feel in your prime? I was thinking about this today.

I’m 58, with a good career (though I no longer strive for further promotion) and a decent circle of friends and family around me.

I’m good at my job and believe I’m respected.

But I probably felt at peak prime a few years back rather than now.

Most definitely past my peak, but that's ok. My peak was glorious and I rode it while it lasted.

SeanMean · 28/05/2026 15:20

Past my peak for sure! Nearly 50.

thekindoflovewemake · 28/05/2026 15:21

Definitely past my peak 😂

I’m 56 and despite looking after myself nutritionally and exercise wise, I now feel like something different hurts every bloody day. I’m on hrt but still bent up like an old crone when I get up in the mornings (much better once I get moving)

EmailsaysOOO · 28/05/2026 15:21

Well over my peak .

ohyesido · 28/05/2026 15:22

I’m feeling better in my mid forties than I ever did in my twenties. Like none of the petty stuff I fretted about even matters now.

I assume you do weights and cardio, but do you do stretches? I think they're often overlooked but they can make a real difference. Yoga bores me shitless but I must admit it's good for stretching and balancing and that can help with this kind of thing.

Nearly 48 and past my peak. Lost a load of vitality from 45.

Mentally happier though.

Hatty65 · 28/05/2026 15:25

A bit of both, to be honest. I'm 60 and physically a long, long way past my peak, I was a size 10 for most of my life but post menopause and with a chronic condition I'm now a size 22. And grey. And saggy.

I am however in my prime enjoyment of life and could no longer give a shit about most things. Life is great and the best it has ever been.

Sunshineandgrapefruit · 28/05/2026 15:26

In my prime. Approaching 50 and 40's definitely my best decade so far.

MissyB1 · 28/05/2026 15:28

58 and past my peak, had a great peak from 35-45 though, then breast cancer put an end to that 🙄
Shouldn’t complain though as I’m still here and relatively fit and healthy.

eewwdavid · 28/05/2026 15:30

Mid 40s was definitely prime and peak...altho I'm quietly hopeful they'll be another one post menopause?

Springdafs · 28/05/2026 15:34

Im 57 and in my peak. Good career, much more respected at work than when I was younger. Im someone who people seek advice from, and Im good at that. Physically still fit, i exercise frequently.
My looks have changed a bit over the last 10 years, but im still pursued by men. Im much more choosey about who I accept offers from though!

Cockahoophappy · 28/05/2026 15:34

In my prime I think. Early 60s.
Same size as when I got married in my 30s.

My marriage is the best it’s probably every been; sex is fab.

I adore my immediate family and my wider family.

I have a great circle of friends who I feel on the same wave length as.

I love exercise so find it a pleasure to keep fit and healthy.

I’m feeling very blessed.

Thank you for making me think about this 🙏
I really am lucky. 🤗

never2return · 28/05/2026 15:38

Both, I’ve passed my childfree peak. Now in the depths of toddler small child hell. I’m waiting the next peak and this time I will fully appreciate it. I just want to sleep and have the time to do a puzzle without risk of it being thrown or being a choke hazard lol

Fifthtimelucky · 28/05/2026 15:38

Definitely past my peak, as I’m 65, but definitely don’t have one foot in the grave yet!

Shinyhappyapple · 28/05/2026 15:40

Well past it 🤣

Fittest in my late 20s/early 30s but I reckon my peak for everything else was at some point in my 40s.

Dr13Hadley · 28/05/2026 15:51

I feel past my peak and I’m 44! I think it’s a combination of life stress at the moment whilst dealing with ADHD and perimenopause though so I’m hoping it’s just a blip!!

I want to get more active again and lose about a stone in weight so need to get into that. I do think that will help my mentality. Just been stuck in a rut since about October last year.

5128gap · 28/05/2026 15:59

At the top of the second in the three peak challenge.
I hit a peak in my 30s, another now in my 50s.
I reckon I could have another 30 years to go if I'm lucky, so all bring well I'll hit a third.

Yeah BC does that to you doesn't it 😞 I actually look great now at 53 now my hair's grown back and I'm fit again but most people don't realise the devastation the ongoing treatment has on your body and mind.

sunnydisaster · 28/05/2026 17:07

Definitely past peak and down the hill!
Mid 50s with multiple health conditions which mean I can’t drive and have to be careful what I eat so life can be boring!

i wish I was 40 again!!

DilemmaDelilah · 28/05/2026 19:17

Definitely past my peak. I was probably at my working peak just before I was diagnosed with breast cancer 3 years ago. I was doing well, I was respected, and I was confident. All fairly unusual for me!

Then I became very ill, had to take 6 months off work, only managed to go back part time and then ended up having to retire early.

Physically, my peak was probably 30 years ago!

BringBackCatsEyes · 28/05/2026 19:26

I got all my running PBs in my 40s.
Now I’m clinging on to the (age category) podium with the skin of my teeth.
Def past my prime.
I’m 55 so it’s to be expected!

GardenTable · 28/05/2026 19:39

The thing with thinking you're in your prime in your 30s or 40s is you are measuring things like career success, appearance, physical strength or endurance and financial situation.

Your real prime comes when you realise you were measuring the wrong things.

mondaytosunday · 28/05/2026 20:01

Im 64 and feel past it. My peak was around 38/39. Best shape of my life, dating up a storm, no kids. Met my DH at 39, married and pregnant at 40, developed type 1 diabetes…

Can you share what the right things to measure are then?
I presume strength, endurance and appearance comes under health.
You didn't mention family and friends - but those aren't really things you work towards as you go through life in the same way as building financial security (via career success). Friendship etc is more to do with overall wellbeing and happiness.
