Is anyone else put off going to the beach because of all the videos circulating online of people kicking off there? I don’t know if im just being silly, kids are desperate to visit the beach today.

Are you talking to anyone in particular? Or just a random comment 😆?

I live in Hampshire; I would never ever go to Bournemouth beach. I know a few much quieter spots, still sandy too. We were there Monday and had so much space around still. I also get there for 8:30am or earlier.

butterflybluess · 28/05/2026 12:00

And the Bournemouth video is true; I do know people who went and put videos up on their personal socials. Looked horrendous. And the rubbish! Disgusting.

The ones closest to us are fine, could you get a coach maybe? Frinton on sea and Walton on the naze are actually quite nice atm. All families with little kids, didn't see any groups of teens.

Southend has always been a bit rough.

Duckyfondant · 28/05/2026 12:05

It's put me off Viking Bay in Broadstairs. Businesses shut early to avoid the trouble on Monday. and it's only a small bay

Treacletreacle · 28/05/2026 12:08

We went to Worthing on Tuesday as i thought Brighton would be busier. Was about 4 other people on the little section we sat at. Got to park right by the beach. Went in m and s foodhall got some grub had a picnic. Got an ice cream all drama free. Happy sleeping kids on drive back so called that a win.

Fupoffyagrasshole · 28/05/2026 12:11

my 5 year old is at southend today with dad -travelled from london - its fine so far- but we always get there at like 8am and gone by 2 or 3

Viking bay wasn’t great over the weekend and it’s such a shame because it’s a gorgeous beach and town. I mean we’ve all been teenagers but this really is another level of antisocial behaviour. I’m actually starting to think they should just ban alcohol on the beaches.

It’s the beaches within walking distance of the train stations that seem to bear the brunt of it so if you’re going that way and driving - go to one of the others and it’s totally different (I was in the next bay over and had no idea there was any trouble).

I usually recommend Joss Bay because the parking is easiest there. Avoid Botany Bay unless you want to spend 2 hours stuck in traffic.

aAaAaAaAhh · 28/05/2026 13:43

I will be going by train as I don’t drive thats what concerned me as it won’t be much fun being stuck on the train with them either, I remember one year our train being held up because a fight broke out on the train in front

There was a planned gang meet-up in Southend - they come in on the train so the pp who said it tends to be on beaches near train stations is correct. Usually Southend is fine although like a lot of UK high streets and seaside towns, its high street has been allowed to become run down

These link ups, shared and organised via social media, has become a real blight

But they’re not the big deal that social media and the media make out. The more attention that’s given to them and the more these kids think they’re disrupting the local community, the more they’ll do it. Simply ignoring it means they’ll die out in a few days.

It’s same as the riots that occurred after the Southport stabbing. In the areas where they got on the news and all over social media, they went on for days and days. In my local area a few people tried to start them up. They were largely ignored and they died out within a night. A lot of people just realised it wasn’t worth the time. If everyone ignored these too, it would go the same way.

If only they weren’t a big deal. It’s been happening the last couple of years and shows no sign of abating. The council have been trying to be proactive with dispersal orders but it’s simply not enough. It’s a massive deal to all the small businesses that had to close on such a busy couple of days because of people coming in shoplifting And abusing staff and fighting. And to all the people just trying to have a nice day at the beach.

aAaAaAaAhh · 28/05/2026 15:07

So thats why people were trying to make out like I was making it up to not give it “attention” 😅 I’ve seen multiple posts all over sm including from people I know personally and it’s not just a isolated thing

If you have trouble on the train you can text British transport police on 61016.

Ive done it before with a load of football supporters who were causing hell in our carriage. Told them which train we were on and which station we were approaching and they were pulled off the train at the next station.

Abracadabra12345 · 28/05/2026 17:40

@WhyDoesItAlways Thank you, that’s good to know. I’ve made a note of the number

Abracadabra12345 · 28/05/2026 17:41

The great thing is, no one knows who you’re texting

FourForksSake · 28/05/2026 18:16

It’s true. But there are plenty of other beaches accessible by public transport.

aAaAaAaAhh · 28/05/2026 18:28

I am only willing to travel 1.5 - 2 hours max by train for a day trip.

We had a beach day today. Barely saw another soul. I can imagine the South Coast beaches might be rather busier though. So happy I live where I do!

Why did you visit if you feel that way?

It's the closest beach to London and we set off too late to go anywhere further away.

Also I used to like Southend when my daughter was little as we used to go to the Adventure Park, but I remember it much nicer than is looks now. Maybe I had rose-tinted glasses.

I would go to Brighton if you're going by train.
