What do you think of non Christmas wreaths?

I’ve seen some lovely summer wreaths. I remember seeing some nice autumn ones last year too. But I’m not 100% sure how I feel about them. What would you think if your neighbour had a summer wreath on their front door?

would you think it looks nice or would you find it a bit strange?

Having grown up in the States, I agree they are a very American tradition, but one that I think is quite nice (at least better than the seasonal flags some have!). My friend has created a very successful Etsy shop making and selling beautiful dried flower wreaths.

Girlintheframe · 26/05/2026 21:00

I saw one today. It was tulips. Very simple but very pretty. Made me smile

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 26/05/2026 21:05

I don’t mind October/halloween wreaths, even Easter wreaths. But summer is a bit too far.

Laiste · 26/05/2026 21:42

I'm torn on this one.
In all honesty the ones you see in B&M and the like are cheap and look cheap. I see ones for sale in a posh garden centre near me for £50/£60 and they are gorgeous! But i've never taken the plunge.

i feel unless xmas or easter then i think it's a no. A lot of the new builds have them. I can see it's pride in the new house ect. But i associate them with the all silver and grey type decor.

Spaghettioverload · 26/05/2026 21:44

Why not?! Some people say tacky but I think it’s nice to walk around and see seasonal touches.

inmyhair · 26/05/2026 21:47

I love them but only if they have fresh foliage, not plastic ones.

I can't seem to find any nice fresh summer ones.

I do get a fresh wreath every christmas though and as people have said it makes me smile as I approach my house and thats a nice thing to do.

Mycarsmellsoflavender · 26/05/2026 21:52

I’d probably wonder if they’d just got married.

TheBoyMayorOfPartridge · 26/05/2026 22:03

We have an Easter/Spring one that we’ve still got up - it’s just pretty dried flowers and foliage. Shop bought am sure some people think it looks cheap/ tacky but I think it’s pretty and it makes me smile and DD loves it.

I should take it down, I was eking it out till the end of May as consider that to still be Spring.

Haven’t got a summer one, not particularly in the market for one but if I saw something lovely I might be tempted.

We have an Autumn one which MIL made but that’s so lovely (and a tiny bit delicate) so I usually put it in the living room rather than on the door.

She usually makes us a Christmas one too, she has tried to teach me but my efforts are usually a bit pathetic.

I love a bit of seasonal decor if you couldn’t tell. It makes DD happy, it makes me happy and DH usually gets in the spirit too. Life is short, celebrate what you can. (We have things that come out every year, things DD and I have had a go at making ourselves and things we have been thoughtfully gifted or made by friends/ relatives more talented than me, plus the very occasional addition that I buy if I see something special, knowing it will be used year on year. )

IndieRocknRoll · 26/05/2026 22:09

Prefer a nice hanging basket or two in summer. I feel fake flowers are a bit jarring and unnecessary when there are so many beautiful real ones everywhere!

Ineffable23 · 26/05/2026 22:14

I like them but you have to try very hard to make sure they don't look plastic-y. I have never yet seen one that looks indistinguishable, other than the dried flower ones. I am always tempted by those but they are so expensive! TBF they might be worth the risk in the summer because you could probably avoid them getting rained on, which I assume would ruin them.

I have a metal bat wreath for the autumn and usually make a wreath for December. But nothing for the summer. TBF in the spring and summer the front garden is full of crocuses/daffodils/tulips/grape hyacinth/irises/fox gloves/pansies which brightens it up considerably.

One of my neighbours has one for each of the seasons. I love walking past and seeing them, they’re lovely wreaths. Yours is very nice too!

I wouldn’t, although I do have one for Christmas, because I couldn’t be arsed with storing it and changing it 😂

We do! I love it personally, DH thinks it’s a waste of time but it looks pretty so…

RaininSummer · 26/05/2026 22:21

I wouldn't bother but I quite like them so long as not sparkly and garish

DelilahBucket · 26/05/2026 22:31

Autumn and Winter, yes, but real plants only.

blackbunny · 26/05/2026 22:39

Naff.
Are they an American thing?

CheeseDreamsTonight · 26/05/2026 22:46

I love them! Someone in my village has a wreath for all seasons and occasions and I look forward to the next one.

Toddlert · 26/05/2026 22:47

Love them. I have an autumn and spring one as well as Christmas obviously but I’ve never found a summer one. I decorate the inside of my house for the seasons too which I know most of MN would say is ghastly
I like seeing other peoples houses decorated, I think it’s lovely when you can see something that’s brought someone else some joy.

if you like it op why do other peoples opinions matter?

Mycarsmellsoflavender · 26/05/2026 21:52

I’d probably wonder if they’d just got married.

I saw one today (hadn’t seen one before), but my immediate reaction was, ‘oh how sad, someone in the family died’.

GardenCovent · 26/05/2026 23:03

YoBetty · 26/05/2026 16:08

At any time other than Christmas, a wreath on someone's door makes me wonder who's died.

For me, a floral wreath is something that goes on a coffin.

I wouldn’t judge someone for having one but I’m the same @YoBetty any time other than Christmas always makes me think that someone has died, even if I can see it is an Easter, Summer, Autumn one.

AnOldCynic · 26/05/2026 23:19

Naff.

FunMustard · 26/05/2026 23:20

I cba myself. But they look nice. I'm all for elevating the look of the local area with flowers.

I don't know why you'd think someone had died if there was a wreath on the door? That makes no sense to me tbh.

Saz12 · 26/05/2026 23:29

IMO wreaths are for graves - they were representing the continuity of the circle of life not so long ago. So Christmas wreaths were a (hijacked) pagan thing, really for Beltayn (?) hope that spring will return.

Summer wreaths just feel like theyve been hijacked hy B&M. Particularly as theyre landfill-in-waiting, it feels a bit of a betrayal beyond whats ok.

LibertyLily · 27/05/2026 03:41

I used to put a seasonal wreath on the door when we lived in a rural cottage - sometimes one made from real flowers, other times a faux flower type (from Gisela Graham) and in the autumn, an unusual small one I got from America that's entirely made of imitation mini apples.

Now we've moved back to a town I don't bother as someone would probably steal it. At Christmas we have a huge Homesense star made of real twigs with tiny faux red berries and I always attach it to the door with screws, just in case 😉

The seasonal wreaths in places like B&M do look like cheap plastic tat unfortunately, imo.

Can't see why anyone would associate them with a death though - AFAIK there's never been a custom of putting a wreath on your door when someone has died?!

SundayBangor · 27/05/2026 04:13

WaterWonky · 26/05/2026 16:20

Not keen on any plastic wreath. If you can make one from actual flowers then I would think it was lovely, but I fear spring/summer flowers won't last like holly and ivy do.

You can use dried flowers, or change the flowers regularly. Also nuts, seed pods, fruit. Grasses can even look lovely for a harvest wreath but they don't stay put as easily. I love having a seasonal wreath on the front door.

SundayBangor · 27/05/2026 04:21

I had no idea anyone would think they looked funereal.
People must think there's some kind of mini plague happening at ours.

You - one - can do, but invariably those I see are plastic. I find it peculiarly offensive to celebrate the seasons of nature with variously coloured plastic bits .
