Annoyed by Andrex cashing in on ‘women’s issues.’

I’m rationally angry at the Andrex “women poo in labour” advert.

The subject has precisely fuck all to do with the product, because nobody’s using toilet paper during labour. It exists because Andrex decided they needed a purpose ad — something designed to make people go, “Oh look, Andrex cares about women.”

They don’t. They care about selling toilet paper. Which is exactly what a toilet paper brand should care about.

So stay in your lane and stop trying to cash in on random women’s causes that have nothing to do with what you actually sell.

over.

Yes, agreed, very well put. Absolutely no need for this at all.

LimbOnTheTreeTheTreeInTheHoleTheHoleInTheGround · 26/05/2026 12:57

You're upset that a brand is using women's issues in order to make a profit?

Why just pick out Andrex? It happens every single day with the vast majority of brands and every different kind of sexuality, ethnicity and everything else you could imagine.

Because this one is rather blatant. It’s picked a complete non issue - made an issue out of it - and it doesn’t even link to the product.

Another thing for women to worry about eh - broadcast into your living rooms by ANDREX

That's what advertisers do to make money though.

That's how women ended up thinking leg shaving was something we all have to do, now all this spraying your face so you can see hairs you apparently need to get rid of, skin creams, make up, fem fresh, scented sanitary products..... it goes on and on and on since advertising became a thing.

But that’s not hijacking a ‘purpose’ to try and win hearts and minds. It’s a totally different thing

Tbf it’s obviously worked as it’s got people talking about it.

youalright · 26/05/2026 13:58

You don't need to get offended over every little thing you can just be happy and enjoy life and not worry about things that don't effect you.

Somethingbland · 26/05/2026 14:15

I've not seen this advert. And I don't want to.

I know I'm old but I remember when a lot of adverts used to clever or funny and memorable . And actually used to make you feel favourable towards the product, or even buy it.

Nowadays adverts are generally cringeworthy and annoying. They actively put me off buying the product and give a very negative impression of it and the company.

I know advertising is a necessary evil for commercial reasons but please can't they devise adverts that are actually fit for purpose.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 26/05/2026 14:22

Oh, great. Another reason for men to go on about how gross women are and for young women to be anxious about childbirth being humiliating.

I agree that it has nothing to do with Andrex and is a stupid advert just saying “ooh look how understanding we are”.

But I don’t think it’s fair to say they’ve made an issue out of nothing. This is something women worry about, they didn’t start worrying about it because of andrex.

Is it an issue that women feel needs to be addressed on a tv ad for toilet paper? I mean Andrex aren’t helping in any way. They’re just cashing in.

Anyway, is it really an issue? I’ve given birth and know many many women who have - and discussed many worries and actual issues with them and no-one has ever expressed a major concern about letting a bit of poo slip out!

And that is the point of advertising. They don't care what you think about the product, as long as you're talking about it.

JustaDream · 26/05/2026 15:24

Yep and their infantile puppy dog they include because we're all 5 years old and can't shit without something cute to sell us a reason for loo roll.

Yes, to an extent I agree. The Pepto Bismol ad for instance - lots of people hate it (I love it) but it irrelevant as they’re singing it and noticing it.

However, there’s been a lot of research in the industry showing that ‘faux purpose’ in brands really turns people off - to the extent they’re suspicious of the brand. And that’s been shown to hinder not boost sales as it’s a perception thing, not just awareness

VintageLane · 26/05/2026 15:26

I agree OP. I have only seen the advert once and that was enough. It’s tasteless and pointless. If it’s supposed to be funny or clever, it isn’t.

BeardySchnauzer · 26/05/2026 15:35

It’s odd - is it supposed to be educational? Of all the things that happen in Labour I’m not sure having a poo is something that needs to be broadcast to the world. Afaik my midwife didn’t have a 12 pack of Andrex standing by

how about tears and the pain of having a wee? Or periods? They are both more relevant to toilet paper

yes it gets people talking but, and maybe it’s because I’m a cynic, it doesn’t make me want to buy Andrex in future

as for the puppy (and koala) it’s supposed to make you associate the paper with softness. Not sure the puppy would thank you if you tried to wipe your arse with him

It is actually okay to complain about one thing at a time...

loveawineloveacrisp · 26/05/2026 15:50

I fucking hate that advert. I was actually like WTAF the first time I saw it.

See your even offended by others spelling. Why don't you go outside get some sun, enjoy your day.

TY78910 · 26/05/2026 16:57

Interesting, I saw a post about this a couple of weeks back praising it. As with everything, it’ll appeal / resonate with some and not others.

I liked their school poo one just before this one. It highlighted how kids hold it in until they feel comfortable at home and having gone through this with DC it made me feel somewhat better in the constant media coverage that batters “lazy parents”.

What's with all the ‘offended’ shizzle? You seem offended by my supposed offence?

You’re the one repeatedly posting to me, simultaneously managing to not say much but also repeat yourself. It’s boring.

I’m sunbathing in my beautiful garden browsing on MN because I’m able to post and be outside. Crackers eh!

Maybe go and touch some grass and chill the fuck out

I've just seen the advert in the cinema. Jesus! Does everything have to be discussed publicly? Do women need to be told it's ok to defecate when your pushing out a baby? I suppose we should just be grateful they didn't call us "pregnant people."
