I saw Jay Rayner on a train a few months ago and, starstruck, just about managed to squeak “love your newspaper column” at him. Realised I’d missed my seat number, went back and found I was just across the aisle from him. I had to spend the next two hours concentrating on my iPad and pretending I hadn’t fangirled him (I’m in my 60s…). Excruciating doesn’t even begin to cover it.
