White only for me. A cold Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc such as Oyster Bay is my favourite 😋

Justanothernamele · 16/05/2026 19:08

Small glass for me, I’m only just discovering wine, much to my mother’s delight after plying me with different ones for years. Maybe Chianti if red, New Zealand white

Doggydoctor · 16/05/2026 19:09

Oh my so many choices as we have a place just south of the Loire.
Nowadays I can’t drink reds especially a heavy red like a Chateauneuf-du-pape major headaches maybe an age thing?
Love Anjou rose in summer chilled crisp and sharp or a white Pouilly Fume with seafood delish.
DH likes a Gamay Bordeaux or Saint Emilion.
Sparkling fizz Fritxenit effervescent Cremant de Loire as both vineyards close.
The cost of these wines in the UK is just totally mad with the tax we have to pay.

Cloudy Bay or Sancerre

Likewise. I like a Gavi too.

Riesling or Gewürztraminer

Love a Gavi..

I used to love a rich red like a Rioja.

But as I'm getting older, I just can't drink it.

Can anyone recommend an easier drinking red? Something that packs a punch but won't make me screw my face up?

I often try to find an easier drinking red, but they are all about 10% and taste like squash instead of real wine.

PearsAndAlsoApples · 16/05/2026 19:38

Right now, I’d go for a pale rosé. In a cold glass with a long thin stem. Can I have some lightly salted crisps and big chunk of vintage cheddar to go with it, please?

I think a trip to the corner shop might be in order for me tonight…

TheScottishPlay · 16/05/2026 19:44

A Kylie Minogue rosè please.

Fixeditralph · 16/05/2026 19:53

A New Zealand Marlborough is my go to, or for rose I’m currently quite enjoying ‘chicken wine’. I can’t drink red unfortunately as it gives me a headache!

Vino verde or Cote du Rhone

Vino verde is my favourite so now I am thinking I’ll try cote du rhone 😅

bugalugs45 · 16/05/2026 20:14

Yellow tail Shiraz please 🍷

SauvignonBlanche · 16/05/2026 20:20

Guess! 🤣

mondaytosunday · 16/05/2026 20:22

I like Yellow tail Shiraz or Malbec. I treated myself the other night to a red from Lidls that wasn’t that much more but had a 91 ratting. It was good but not that much better than Yellow Tail (maybe I’m not discerning enough). My DH loved Fleurie. I like Cabernet Sauvignon too. I used to only drink Merlot (particularly Kumala) but seem to have gone off it.

BlueShoeGlue · 16/05/2026 20:32

The cheapest fizzy sweet rose you can find please.
i want to be sophisticated and like nice wine; I’ve tried and I just hate it.
lambrusco is top tier for me

M&S have a 9% NZ pinot that tastes like rich wine but doesn't hurt as much in the morning. It's worth finding.

Smallwins · 16/05/2026 21:06

Loving a white malbec just now, very drinkable (maybe slightly too drinkable)

TeelaLorenCarver · 16/05/2026 21:16

I'd have a Marlborough sauv blanc every time, though I won't refuse picpoul or pinot grigio ( or any white/rose wine really ).
La Vielle Ferme is known in my family as cock wine. When we found it came as a rose too, my DH put a couple of bottles in the supermarket trolly, saying 'I know you like a bit of pink cock..' Got a couple of surprised looks, but yes, it seems I do. 😁
Instant headache from red wine so don't drink it.

Gcn · 16/05/2026 21:22

Don't like many reds these days - favourite is troublemaker (blend) ot nero de trioja.

White, Vino Esmerelda, or Markies vinho Verde (only £7.50), or19 crimes Chard

Ineffable23 · 16/05/2026 21:24

I like a muscadet for normal wine. And red I like a rioja. But more often I drink sherry, because you can open a bottle and nothing happens to it if it takes you a few weeks to drink it. I think a dry amontillado is probably my favourite of the sherries. It's an underrated drink and you can get excellent specimens for a reasonable price, but you mainly need to shop online for them (or in Waitrose) as not enough people drink it.

AllJoyAndNoFun · 16/05/2026 21:29

Whispering Angel if I’m feeling flush
Chicken wine if I’m not.

ive pretty much abandoned reds altogether. Will drink white if there’s no rosé and then id choose a Chablis

Screamingabdabz · 16/05/2026 21:33

I‘m obsessed with M&S red Lambrusco now that it’s heading toward summer. Merlot in the winter but fizzy in the summer but can’t stomach white.

This is honestly delicious. I think it was Waitrose's best selling red wine.....not sure if it still is but the reviews speak for themselves. Tesco sell it too.

BridgetJonesV2 · 17/05/2026 08:39

I love wine but since turning 50, wine doesn't love me. Even the organic stuff gives me a blinding headache for days after. My favourite was a chenin blanc.
