What do you do at the weekend?

Every weekend my husband and I ask each other what we are going to do and never have any idea! Children are all grown up now so it’s just the 2 of us. He works away Mon-Friday so we like to spend time together but I guess we’ve run out of ideas! We go for walks, meals, shopping, cinema. We’re not big drinkers. It’s Friday night and we’re stuck again - what are you doing tomorrow?

We do our own thing on Saturday. I work in the morning, gym, meet friends, do house jobs. Husband is similar just not work.
on Sundays we usually get up and exercise then do something together from 11 onwards. Find a new place to visit, meet friends, dog walks, try a new place for lunch, joint sport. We have kids but they have activities on Saturdays which are all day and on Sundays they might come with us or stay at home.
could you make list of new places to visit, restaurant/coffee shop to try, sport to play together and work your way through the list?

We're going to a country show tomorrow, there's not much we don't do to be honest anything from a walk on the beach and a coffee, to the theatre and dinner out, I do like to crack on with the garden this time of year too

IwouldifIcouldreachit · 15/05/2026 20:56

I've got tickets to an exhibition at a gallery. I am always very happy to have a weekend pottering about at home, but I also like going to gigs, museums, galleries, the theatre, out for dinner etc. I wouldn't ever 'go for a walk' unless it was to go to something, I don't walk just for the sake of it.

Myoldbear · 15/05/2026 20:58

It's coming into the season of fetes and fayres and outdoor community events.

Last Saturday we went to our annual transport festival in the main town park.

This week there's people opening their gardens across the village, with tea and cake in the church hall, so we're going to that.

We're also both bellringers so often ring at the weekends for church services/ weddings.

In the winter we look out for things like amateur drama productions in village halls which are fun and cheaper than professional theatre.

Allotment. Make ceramics. Try new recipes. Go to towns and cities within an hour or so of us and walk around. Organise the house. Go hiking. Husband does multiple outing sports related hobbies. Work on my post grad. Do admin for my volunteering job. Husband works on his masters and does lots of things with his volunteer job. Gardening. DIY. Sleep. Watch movies. Read books.

but we do have a 10 and 13 year old in tow and so we also do transporting them to hobbies on Friday evening, Saturday morning and Sunday morning.

food shopping comes Friday night.

we have a pizza oven so some weekends I’ll make dough and we’ll make far too much pizza and garlic bread and eat it until we groan.

It depends on the weather!

Last Saturday we had friends for lunch, went for a long walk and then had a cosy night in.

On Sunday I went to London for the day with friends. DH stayed home and cleaned the bathrooms.

This weekend we will be doing some gardening. We live near the beach so i might go for a swim tomorrow morning. Nothing planned for Saturday evening so we might stay in and watch Eurovision. On Sunday we'll take the dog for a long walk in the morning, go to the pub for Sunday lunch, then we have tickets to watch The Devil Wears Prada in the afternoon.

crazycadetmum · 15/05/2026 21:09

Walks..with coffee and cake, museum trips, garden centre with coffee and cake..we try different local towns for shopping..visit farmers markets..

blurshed · 15/05/2026 21:13

Nothing. We work all week, long hours. The weekends sees everybody out and everywhere is too busy. Urgh. Not our thing. Why on earth would you want to go into the local town on a weekend ???? Horrific and sheep followers. Likewise supermarkets .. "its the weekend, let's all go to the supermarket". No thanks. We shop online..we stay at home most weekends unless we're going to friends or them to us. Soo much cheaper and easier and far much better than any pub. Restaurants charge stupid money for crap food. Unless high end, we can make it cheaper and easier at home .

Iliketulips · 15/05/2026 21:16

Tomorrow doing something that relates to a joint interest, then early meal out with family for my birthday. I work Sundays. Occasionally we might go for a drive somewhere/meet up with others.

However, a typical weekend would involve gym/exercise at home, a local or country walk stopping off for coffer, watching a sport on TV we both enjoy.

What a needlessly bitter post on a nice thread.

we’re part of a motorcycle group! So we often go for rides with the group! On Sunday mornings we take our doggo to Epping forest!

No it's your bad personality

Please stop trying to blame it on biology

Crushed23 · 15/05/2026 21:43

Mid-30s. Child-free.

In a word: party.

But more specifically, we go to raves, festivals, house parties, birthday drinks, engagement parties, boat parties, weddings. Absolutely any excuse to celebrate. Halloween. St Patrick’s Day, July 4th. Oktoberfest. Thanksgiving. Cinco de Mayo. Labor Day Weekend. Christmas. New Year’s. World Cup final. You name it.

😊

Bigtrapeze · 15/05/2026 22:05

Going to do Park Run tomorrow then take DD14 shopping in the afternoon to spend vouchers she got for her birthday in February, drive her to a friend's then Race for Life, meet up with an old school friend for coffee in the afternoon and then have all the family around for a roast on Sunday evening. Might manage a few hours with DH on Saturday night just the two of us before collecting DD and will try not to spend it prepping veg for Sunday dinner! Maybe we'll squeeze a walk in.

NotTheOrdinary · 15/05/2026 22:09

As little as possible unless there's some sort of family event planned.

I'm usually too knackered after working all week and just want to chill.

3678194b · 15/05/2026 22:34

Weekends are always so busy. My retired neighbours told me they 'hibernate' from Friday morning until Monday morning and stay in all weekend because of this. Same for Bank Holidays, they just get deliveries in. I don't know how they manage it but obviously that's what they like.

I couldn't stay in all weekend though. Saturdays I usually go for a walk, or if I need the shops I go early as they're heaving by lunchtime. Sunday either one of the large shopping centres, country parks, zoo, city, garden centre etc etc that kind of thing, even though Sundays are busy too I find them the better of the two days.

inmyhair · 15/05/2026 22:40

Saturday morning I meet my girlfriends for a brunch that usually lasts from 10.30-12 then I go home and maybe do something of my boyfriend choosing.

Sundays have family over for roast dinner, all my family round me, whats not to like.

WorthySloth · 15/05/2026 22:41

Work the equivalent of every other weekend. Plus go away to gigs and binge drink tbh 🤣🤣

DoNotSitDownNextToMe · 15/05/2026 22:45

Parkrun
Clean house/do jobs around house
supermarket shop
laundry, ironing
wandering around shopping centre
walk/cycle
Church

Really nothing very interesting. Cleaning house takes up lot of Saturday. Previously been NT members. DH not too interested in going out despite living in London.

Nofeckingway · 15/05/2026 22:48

Very impressed at all these well organized and interesting weekends . I need to get my mojo back and get back out there doing stuff.

Although @LibbyL92 for one moment I thought you had put that you go dogging in Epping Forest . 😂

Kickinthenostalgia · 15/05/2026 22:54

Tbh I usually work Saturday mornings, then the afternoon consists of catching up on washing and watching football. Sunday is my reset day, beds, washing, ironing, cleaning. Then usually footie in the afternoon.
tomorrow I have taken the day off to watch the final wsl game Chelsea v united. We are going to london and then getting food after and travelling back just in time for Eurovision.

Buscake · 15/05/2026 22:54

Solo parent to 3 teens
sat - gym and then boxing 8-10, home and no one will be up! Food shop being delivered, fa cup final and we’re doing a Eurovision party for the 4 of us so getting things ready for that (food decorations etc)
Sun - swim and yoga, meditation class, time sorting out stuff in the house, maybe watch a film with the kids or try to get them out the house for a walk. Then body balance class. Early night. Mon-weds are the busiest days of the week for me so I need to be reset and ready

MummyInTheNecropolis · 15/05/2026 23:00

I’m single and my DD is grown up so I do my own thing. Saturday morning I go for a run, parkrun one week then my running club the other week, where we go for coffee together afterwards. Come home, do some housework, then go to a dance cardio class at a fitness studio at lunchtime. Walk back through the park, stop off for a coffee if the weather is nice. Come home, sort the kitchen and then have grocery delivery. Evening spent watching tv/chatting to friends/yoga and meditation.

Sundays are always different but I always do some sort of activity, a long hike, a run, last week I played rounders in the park with a group of friends, sometimes I go swimming, now and again I do a yoga or meditation retreat day, sometimes I meet friends for a pub lunch. Always something active and something social. Sunday evening I get set for the week ahead, long bath or shower, hair wash, shave legs etc. Make up a few days worth of lunches, plan my outfits for the week, do a meal plan, book my exercise classes for the week. Check through my planning for work (teacher).

None if it is set in stone, I might go away for the weekend, or occasionally have a lazy Saturday if I’ve had a big Friday night out, but this is my general routine. I love my weekends.

ButterYellowFlowers · 15/05/2026 23:06

We do a quiz, garden, read books, go for ice cream, bake… nothing crazy
