How much would you pay for this cake?
Not sure if it’s 6 or 8 inches.

If I’m honest I don’t think I would pay for it. I’m not a great baker but I could make similar myself quite easily.

Knittedfairies2 · 13/05/2026 22:45

Honestly, I wouldn't buy it.

FernsInValley · 13/05/2026 22:49

Nothing. It is not nice looking.
If it's yours I suggest scrapping off the decorations and just swirling pink buttercream then sprinkle with edible glitter.

Nothing … not professional at all

BuffetTheDietSlayer · 13/05/2026 22:54

If a child had made it for a bake sale for school or church, I’d pay £10. If an adult made it? £0.

lavenderscenteddrawerliners · 13/05/2026 22:54

If it was for charity I'd pay be £20 for a good cause, otherwise nothing. It doesn't look good, unless the baker is a young child.

Ipsevenenabibas · 13/05/2026 22:55

It looks awful. I might give my kid a fiver though if they made it and wanted to sell it to me.

xyzandabc · 13/05/2026 22:56

I'd say it was a nice homemade cake. If someone made it for me I'd be very happy and appreciate the effort.

If I paid someone to make it as a professional cake maker I'd be very disappointed and wonder why I was paying for something I could make myself. The icing piped around the edges is pretty bad and apart from that it's just got a few sweets chucked on the top

Cake321 · 13/05/2026 22:57

I paid £50 😭

I was having a terrible day and rushed to pick up the cake in between appointments. I was sent a photo which wasn’t amazing but it was passable. The baker put it in my car and it was only when I got home I saw it didn’t resemble the photo at all.

I wouldn’t pay anything for it. It’s awful, if it was for charity I’d happily donate but they could keep that monstrosity.

EffortlesslyDirected · 13/05/2026 22:57

I'd be sending it back unless it was from a charity bake sale or similar. If it had been dome to a professional standard maybe £30.

GloiredeDijon · 13/05/2026 22:57

Nothing. It looks grim.

Neveranynamesleft · 13/05/2026 22:58

On a positive side, it may taste better than it looks.

You need to complain about it. What was it supposed to be like?

ReadingSoManyThreads · 13/05/2026 22:59

Awful - you've been ripped off (and I say that as someone who used to make cakes professionally, so I know the real costs involved in making them).

ETA: What was the brief @Cake321 ?

BuffetTheDietSlayer · 13/05/2026 22:59

£50 for that?!

Ipsevenenabibas · 13/05/2026 23:03

Wow. You've been had.

Cake321 · 13/05/2026 23:03

This was my inspiration photo, it was quite a last minute order so I only specified the colour scheme as this style of icing. I didn’t ask for the sweets

Wow, I would want to return it for a refund tbh.
What was the picture they sent you?

Cake321 · 13/05/2026 23:06

It was for my daughter’s birthday so I had no choice but to cut it and serve it. I had people coming over and I finished work later than expected so no time to get a supermarket one.

Jesus, you need to complain to her then. She hasn't a clue what she's doing.

lavenderscenteddrawerliners · 13/05/2026 23:14

I get so shocked when I hear the prices people pay for a birthday cake. I mean proper ones, not the OPs. Would it not be better to buy a supermarket cake and put the extra money into the birthday person's account?

Cake321 · 13/05/2026 23:17

I usually use a different baker but unfortunately I couldn’t get her this time. This was a cake she made in February and it was actually cheaper.

Hope you've left a truthful review! Shocking. Hope tasted nice though and the candles made it prettier for your daughter.

To be honest, I'd never pay £50 for a cake no matter how pretty it turned out.

A supermarket cake will have all sorts of preservatives etc. in it, whereas a professionally baked bespoke cake won't.

A supermarket cake will be made in a factory, a bespoke cake will be made to order and any profit will go directly to the local maker and help in turn helps the local economy.

I used to be a professional cake maker (I'm professionally trained, not just a home baker), the love, care and skill that goes into professionally bespoke baked cakes is worth the money they cost. There is no comparison.

Clearly though, this cake in the OP was made by someone who just fancies themselves as a cake maker, despite not even being a talented home baker.
