If we had another lockdown happen, i doubt it but if it did, what would you do different this time round.

I cant say i would change anything as i live alone, and i enjoyed it tbvh.
I didnt go mad with stock piling.

But if it happened again i would knit another quilt.

I'd go to the beach and walk outside, though to be fair, I doubt the Victorian government would repeat this error, seeing as, so far as I know, no-one ver contracted Covid on a beach.
OTOH, much would depend on what the lockdown was in aid of. It's all very well to look over our shoulders and say that during Covid some actions were disproportionate, but a different disease might still be seen to require strict measures.

Amiacoolorwarmcolour · 11/05/2026 23:54

I would not work full out like I did.
I would not sign back onto work at 5pm until 7pm just because my boss asked me to.
I’d put myself and family first and not strangers.

Family should always come first.

Ignore the ridiculous store rules.

ShetlandishMum · 12/05/2026 00:08

Refuse to work/NHS.

crumpetswithcheeze · 12/05/2026 00:13

Nothing. I, and my family carried on as normal (as much as possible anyway) last time, and would do the same. No arrogant pricks in Downing Street dictate when I can / can’t see my loved ones.

Pureclass · 12/05/2026 00:15

I wouldn't take it so seriously
DS and I were deemed very high risk - or whatever it was called. The advice was to stay indoors and only sit by an open window
I did that for far too long.
Then we ventured into the garden and tbh enjoyed it

I know so many people didnt and we had awful wider family issues too which I deeply regret listening to the "advice"

In the end DS and I got covid 5 times and luckily were fine

I would be prescient and wouldn't take my electric bike to the distant bike shop in Feb 2020 or else I'd make sure I definitely picked it up a week later. I didn't get it back till Sept.

Oh! That must have been so annoying. Did you swear a bit? 😂

gurnseygurl · 12/05/2026 00:50

I don't think there really is anything I would do differently. The lockdowns weren't my favourite time, but they weren't all that bad for me either. I was lucky as I live in Guernsey and our lockdowns didn't last nearly as long, though being chained to the island did drive me a little insane as we got towards the end.

Nat6999 · 12/05/2026 01:09

The only thing I would would be make sure I had at least 2 weeks online shopping booked in at a time, other than that, sit back & relax, being an antisocial introvert I loved lockdown, I've never read so many books as I did. Ds & I stayed with my mum & we had a brilliant time, we had a routine, get all our jobs done in the morning, we all had roles, ds was in charge of anything that involved leaving the house, I was logistics, shopping, my mum was catering, then in the afternoons we played board games, looked at old photos, read, watched old films. We always sat down to watch the evening news together & then planned our meals for the day after, it is one of mine & ds fondest memories of my mum, I think it is the time we were at our closest.

sittingonabeach · 12/05/2026 01:12

For those saying you wouldn’t comply with the rules, if you happened to be on the current plague ship and been told to self isolate when you got home would you ignore that?

ScrambledTofuNeedsKalaNamak · 12/05/2026 01:12

I was, and still am, a key worker, so I still got to leave the house and go to work. I remember how dead the roads were though and it was such a pleasure driving to and from work.

I did have to self-isolate a couple of times, on paid leave, when I'd been exposed to COVID from other colleagues and I did self-isolate. I kind of regret those two weeks of doing nothing, on full pay, when I could've been out walking or having some fun.

Would I comply next time? Yes. I've had COVID twice and I've never been so poorly. It floors me. I'm relatively fit and healthy and it killed a lot of people who were much more vulnerable. I could not deal with the fact I knowingly passed on a potentially fatal virus to someone that was more vulnerable than me.

WheretheFishesareFrightening · 12/05/2026 01:30

I’d work less hard than I did last time (I was wfh though). Other than that, nothing, I loved it.

Crushed23 · 12/05/2026 01:30

Same as last time: completely ignore it.

I met up with friends, went to house parties, went on dates, travelled around the country, went on holiday to Portugal while the UK was still in lockdown (as Portugal had come out of theirs already), went to the office when I got bored of full time WFH, etc.

100,000 people a year get hantavirus but sudenly when a few people on a cruise get it and it’s big news. Wonder why.

Their private businesses so good luck with that.

I would do nothing different. I liked it last time and would enjoy it again. That doesn't mean I was not sympathetic to those who had difficulties, just speaking for myself it was marvellous not having to see anyone for nigh on two years.

If where talking about this current strain of hantavirus the mortality rate is 40%. I certainly wouldn't be ignoring that

Spottyvases · 12/05/2026 05:26

Love my 'lockdown' crochet blanket - all 144 squares of it. Gets used every day. Kept me sane.

Yes - still had to go to work. But got sick of people clapping for my efforts 🙄

This particular type (Andes) is transmissible from person-to-person, unlike other strains of Hantavirus. The one Gene Hackman’s wife had was not transmissible between humans. The mortality rate for this strain is also high. However, it does require close contact to transmit.

There’s nothing suspicious here.

Spottyvases · 12/05/2026 05:29

@Crushed23 nice to be you eh? Were you a superspreader as well during your jolly jaunts?

Not fun for the poor bastards who had an ICU stay and then died though.

Newcybrown · 12/05/2026 05:40

Excersise more, cook better, look after my wellbeing. My lockdown coincided with an unrelated traumatic event which meant I did not look after myself at all and being so isolated already due to the rules it was a living nightmare.

Eviebeans · 12/05/2026 05:57

I can’t say that I would do anything differently

I was lucky that I already worked from home
I decided that I was not going to be one of the “old and fat people that the government said were at risk and would succumb easily and so we set about improving our lifestyle
The weather was good- we grew loads of vegetables and salad stuff
we spent time in the garden
we went out walking every day, several times a day very early and later so that we avoided people - we were very lucky at the time to live in a house where we could come out of our front door and turn in any direction and have a short walk to green open space
I meditated every morning
I was very mindful about what we were eating
We both lost significant amounts of weight and felt better than we had for years
we did not see family or friends for what felt like a very long time and that felt dreadful at times - especially not seeing my youngest grandson who we had been providing regular childcare for since he was six months old
we were aware that people were having a terrible time and were really appreciative of what we had

Bryonyberries · 12/05/2026 06:10

Go on furlough. I watched everyone enjoying the sunshine while I still went to work as a key person.
