Does anyone else feel uneasy when adults use playgrounds without children?

Am I the only one that hates when adults go to the playground without children? I know it’s a free world and they can go where they like but it makes me feel so uncomfortable. Like yesterday was sat in the local playground was only me and my kids and a group of 5 adults arrived with no kids, just makes me feel so uncomfortable. I realise im probably being unreasonable but I can’t be the only one that hates it

What were the adults doing? I can’t say I’ve ever encountered this. Do you mean they were in the playground itself and not just sitting on the grass nearby?

ShakyBake · 10/05/2026 21:34

I don't think I've ever seen that? Were they playing on the equipment?

Number4224 · 10/05/2026 21:35

Did any of them have additional needs? I take my 15 year old to the park still and he looks about 18, he’s profoundly autistic and non verbal and has a mental age of around 4-5 years so still enjoys doing things a small child would

Advertisemints · 10/05/2026 21:36

I think it's weird you feel that way about other people being in a public space in a normal way.

There’s no grass, it’s a playground with a gate no grass it’s not a park it’s a children’s playground

Definitely werent teens and it happens a lot so doubt all of them have special needs, the ones yesterday were laughing and filming each other on their phones but it’s a regular occurrence (different groups)

Already said it was irrational but a group of 5 adults in a kiddy playground (not park, no grass) running around and playing on the equipment does make me feel uncomfortable

Can you explain WHY it makes you feel uncomfortable?

Number4224 · 10/05/2026 21:46

How many old were they? Was it a group of men and women? Maybe they were filming silly TikTok’s

Because I find it weird that a group of adults would want to hang around in a kids park. They must realise that other adults would find that awkward.

I have experienced this too when I’ve been with my young children and have to agree with you OP

Flowersdie · 10/05/2026 21:53

Never seen this in my life. But no, I wouldn’t feel uncomfortable, unless they were some kind of creepy men.

muggart · 10/05/2026 21:56

only encountered this once.

A man in his mid-twenties, alone, came and sat on the concrete ground with his back against the equipment directly facing where my daughter was playing, a couple of meters from us. There was nobody else in the playground and plenty of benches and grassy areas to the side where he could have sat. So we left, obviously, because he seemed like a paedaphile although I accept he could have just been an oblivious young person gazing off into space not aware of how he came across.

blackheartsgirl · 10/05/2026 21:56

well I kind of see where you are coming from.

i think I’d feel the same way but maybe not uncomfortable as such just more annoyed that they were hogging the equipment. It is a bit odd to turn up in the middle of the day when other peoples kids are there.

i mean Ive done it as a very drunk student with a group of us but it was 1am 😂

Thank you, people seem to think im making it up! Happens 9 times out of 10 when I visit my local park, it’s on a main road by some shops so don’t know if thats why it attracts so many adults

Yes exactly, the ones before these lot were a group of about 10 adults and they were running round the playground playing tag, oblivious to all the children playing who could have been easily knocked over. That time we did leave. It’s bizarre

Are you sure they're adults and not a group of older teenagers?

I can't say I've ever seen adults in a park without kids there.

I think as long as they're having a laugh together then fair enough. If they were sitting watching the kids or being anti social then that would make me uncomfortable.

Are they filming social media content maybe?

InSpainFallsMainlyOnThePlane · 10/05/2026 22:02

Agree with you OP, it is weird, and ridiculous, imagine having a million other places to go to....and choosing to go to a children's playground, jeez.

Well others have, definitely not teens. Some of them were in their 30s

Just seems very strange to me to think “hey let’s go and hang out at the playground”

One time I decided to go to the park to look at the ducks whilst dd was at playgroup

I felt a twat and had to leave

Ponderingwindow · 10/05/2026 22:05

My old urban area had so many problems with this that the city fenced off the playground and banned anyone over 18 from entering the fenced area without a child.

There were plenty of other parts of the park for adults to use.

WeaselsRising · 10/05/2026 22:05

I wonder if they were filming eachother? We recently encountered 2 teen girls in the (muddly) children's playpark of a larger attraction, dressed in pale clothes posing with the equipment. It was quite bizarre and also annoying as I was trying to run after my autistic grandson and they kept getting in the way. I was very tempted to ask them what they thought they were doing
