£200 to spend on myself. What would you buy?

Just that really…I have £200 to treat myself (birthday money). I’d like to buy something special, or a collection of nice things, that I wouldn’t normally buy/justify. I’ve got a decent wardrobe and can buy what I like to update that for summer. Also have more than enough handbags, shoes & make-up so don’t need any more. I was thinking maybe a nice necklace or a facial or even a spa day but open to other ideas.
What should I spend the money on? What would you buy?
(Apologies to anyone who feels that posts about “treat money” are tone deaf in the current climate but this money was given as a gift with instructions to do something nice with it.)
Thanks

Some new neoprene mittens for swimming.

Books. Lots of books.

In similar situations I tend to buy really nice versions of things I normally use.

Or for £200 I’d probably get a decent ticket to a show in the West End.

My fantasy £200 at the moment would be spent on Gucci "A Midnight Stroll" perfume. It smells like a beautiful bonfire.

SomersetBrie · 10/05/2026 18:45

Last time I had money like this to spend I bought a necklace from Monica Vinader. There was a sale on so I got a really nice one.

Thanks everyone, some great suggestions. I’m thinking a small-ish bottle of a summer scent, a gold plated chain from Missoma or similar that I could add other stacking necklaces to later, then if any ££ left maybe a pedicure to get my feet summer ready…
Keep the suggestions coming.

I would head to selfridges as I've been looking to try Vicky B's foundation, if I like it that'll take half the budget. Then I wonder the shops and see what else took my fancy, have a nice lunch. Anything left I'd buy books for my kindle

A theatre ticket and a night in a hotel.

Mumofyellows · 10/05/2026 19:26

Some sort of quite nice jewellery and/or some really nice wellies as I am a dog and horse owner and live in them!

R00tat00tt00t · 10/05/2026 19:32

Love hearing what everyone would treat themselves to. Prize for most random so far goes to @OakleyStreetisnotinChelseawith the swim mittens 😊

I was just coming on to say I just treated myself to a new riding hat 😅

A Lumie! I love mine. I got the bells and whistles one and it really has done wonders for my sleep and made getting up for work so much more bearable.
A GHD hair dryer - they have them at my gym and they really do make your hair feel so nice and smooth.

plsdontlookatme · 10/05/2026 19:49

A dry robe (depends on your lifestyle and I know it's for wankers but I really do find it so useful)

CoralOP · 10/05/2026 19:56

Oh I would have a treat day, pancake stack brekkie at a local lovely cafe, a massage, wander around shops buying bits of nice clothing etc then a lovely meal on the night, enjoy.

TokyoSushi · 10/05/2026 20:03

I would get a summer pedicure with gel nails, or if you’re a straightener GHD platinum + hair straighteners are beyond amazing!

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 10/05/2026 20:17

Hydra facial or Botox or massage spa day

houseofisms · 10/05/2026 20:31

Botox

GreenSmithing · 10/05/2026 20:36

If you would use it, an annual pass of some kind - arts pass, or a national trust or a local attraction.

Or a workshop/short course, how to throw pots on a wheel, or silver smithing, or a drumming workshop.

Probably an activity rather than an item, in any case.

R00tat00tt00t · 10/05/2026 20:53

Ooh I like the idea of a short course in something creative @GreenSmithing- I hadn’t thought of that.

I would buy a lovely ring and some perfume.

GimmieABreakOr3 · 10/05/2026 20:57

Perfume or a pair of earrings

ShakyBake · 10/05/2026 21:30

If you're into your retro gadgets how about a VCR recorder player and a few VHS tapes of you favourite movies to take you back to the 90's?

Nourishinghandcream · 10/05/2026 21:55

Bit of an odd one this and unfortunately is not achievable with the £200 you are looking to spend but I saw something the other day that immediately made me think "I want one and I am going to buy one whatever it costs".

A house name plate.
Yes, just that.🙂

Although we are just a number (not naice enough to have a house name😆) and already have a bespoke house number by the front door, the one I saw the other day was just gorgeous, clearly hand made / made to order and really special.
I made enquiries as to where it came from and was really chuffed when the chap said he would make one for me.
Cost even more than I was expecting but my OH felt just the same as me so we are having it made.

Said it was a bit different.😁

Nourishinghandcream · 11/05/2026 08:59

For £200 you could treat yourself to a lovely Mouseman chopping board or cheeseboard.
I think my OH has his eye on one of these for my birthday in a few months time.🤞

Three jobs could mean different things. Each job could be an hour once a week or five hours a day seven days a week. Certainly one full time job could be more or fewer hours than three jobs.
