Thinking of going...we like beaches, good food, good pub food, local sites to visit, people watching. Just for Hubby and I.

Llandudno has cropped up...sell it to me with recommendations for all above please ☺️

I stayed there for 3 nights last summer. I crossed Pontcysyllte Aqueduct in kayak & did some cycling in the area.

I enjoyed it but also couldn't fill 7 nights in that area. Chip shops were decent. :)

Do you mean you crossed the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct on the way to Llandudno? Because the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct is nowhere near Llandudno. It's 60 miles away. It's only about 8-9 miles from the Shropshire border.

.

It's my nearest town a couple of days is definitely enough. I could spin out Anglesey longer if you're keen walkers nice restaurants we like the Gazelle. No-one has mentioned Betws y Coed yet we like the Stables for lunch. For afternoon tea, Conwy visit Upstairs at Anna's. Caernarfon fine castle.

HudALledrith · 07/05/2026 23:03

You've goat to go. You might as well stay at orme otherwise.
I mostyn-sist.

Visit Betws-y-Coed, Llanrwst, Trefriw, Conwy, ...

I went to Douglas from the pier. Probably 1981.

I'm 30 mins drive from llandudno and I agree! You can't stay there for 7 days, you'll lose the will.

Get a nice cottage in Anglesey or the conwy valley and do llandudno as a day trip

AmethystDeceiver · 07/05/2026 23:09

Do not, whatever you do, spend a week in Bangor Travelodge as previously suggested. Really really don't do that

Pontcysyllte Aqueduct is at least 50 miles from Llandudno.

There’s a pub called Cottage Loaf which has delicious food

SwedishEdith · 07/05/2026 23:23

The Welsh Mountain Zoo in Colwyn Bay is good.

SwedishEdith · 07/05/2026 23:25

Or stay in Deganwy then you get views over Conwy.

Are you perhaps thinking of Llangollen? That’s near the aqueduct.

I love Llandudno but it is a little jaded in places these days and can get a little rough at night in certain parts. That said I go often for the day but tend to stay out of town now.
We have stayed at the Empire which is gorgeous and has a pool (indoor and out). Sitting on the prom watching the world go by is lovely, walking up the pier, the tram up the great Orme, seal spotting on the Little Orme - all great things to do.
There are some good pubs (the one by the tram station is great) and a couple of lovely restaurants.
Days out to Conwy and Anglesey are a must!

Another yes for the Empire for families.
Also there's a mountain zoo, axe throwing, magic place, good boat trip, great walks, mine, ice cream places, country houses/castles/gardens nearby.

The funicular railway is fab! We were there on a sunny day and it was magical to go up and be on the top of the world.

Do you mean the tramway? There isn’t a funicular railway. The cable cars are a fun way to get to the summit of the Great Orme.

LetMeGoogleThat · 08/05/2026 08:13

Llandudno is ok for a day trip, but if you like food and nice places, try Conwy.

InterestingDuck · 08/05/2026 08:21

DH and I have been for day trips and like it. The mountains you can see everywhere on the horizon are lovely and the beach is large albeit mostly pebbles. We like a walk along the pier. We've talked about staying there for a few days and using it as a base to visit Conwy, Colwyn Bay, Penmaenmawr etc. I don't think Llandudno itself would have enough to keep us occupied for several days but it would be a nice place to come back to for evening strolls along the promenade and so on, and I definitely want to go on the cable cars at some point.

InterestingDuck · 08/05/2026 08:30

Re. the people watching, one thing we've noticed is that we rarely hear any Welsh accents there - overwhelmingly seems to be visited by Northerners and people from Merseyside. I am guessing the locals avoid it in the peak tourist season when we always go! So I would say not the best place to experience Welsh culture other than the scenery and the Welsh signage.

kerstina · 08/05/2026 08:31

Beautiful place and you can discover Anglesey as well while you are there.

FionnulaTheCooler · 08/05/2026 08:35

There's a good sit in chippy in Llandudno Junction called Enoch's. We also liked the Welsh mountain zoo and the puffin island boat trip from Beaumaris. Chester and Liverpool are both reasonable driving distance for a day trip too, Chester is beautiful. Don't bother with Bangor, or Rhyl.

Clowningaroun · 08/05/2026 08:41

Visited once for the day. It’s a bit rough and we wouldn’t return

HoldMyWine · 08/05/2026 08:42

It’s grim, I can’t stand the place.

HoldMyWine · 08/05/2026 08:45

South wales or west is much nicer.

Alltheprettyseahorses · 08/05/2026 08:50

I want to live there when I retire. It's the most beautiful place in the world and you could easily fill every second.

I'd use it as the base. By the time you've gone up the Great Orme on the tram, walked along the prom which you'll want to do a few times, gone to West Shore, explored the gardens on the side of the Great Orme, spent half a day watching the amazing wildlife on the Little Orme, gone up the Great Orme again on the cable car and visited the mines, the pier a couple of times and Happy Valley, that's most of your holiday sorted. A day in Conwy and another in the mountains and you'll have run out of time before you know it. Just whatever you do, don't walk up the Great Orme via Ty Gwyn Road.

Blogswife · 08/05/2026 08:51

This is useful . We are going on a road trip through Wales in the summer and stopping overnight at Llandudno. I’ve been before , lovely old traditional seaside town but I’m not sure I could entertain myself for 6 days .

The Welsh Mountain Zoo in Colwyn Bay is good.

It really is a lovely zoo. The landscape and gardens alone. The laburnum arch is out at Bodnant just now. Tyr hwnt y bont at llanrwst worth a visit
